Mare Island

OK, here is another question for any residents of the San Francisco Bay area (or anyone else who has knowledge of the area).The DRG map of Mare Island that I have shows a total of eight radio towers. However, I have managed to have a look at close range, high resolution colour aerial photos of this location via Microsoft's Terraserver website.....and I can't see a single radio tower.So, does anyone know if there are any radio towers left on this island ? If there are, what do they look like ? Are they slim masts that are supported by wires, or tall, TV tower type structures ?Any information, photos etc. would be very welcome.Cheers,Chris Low.PS. Chris - It's likely the masts were military equipment associated with the shipyard there which was closed and partially dismantled a few years back. The island is now being redeveloped for both business and residences. Here are some links to fairly recent photos. I see only a few old cranes and a smokestack, but have your own look. Wow, you are a gold mine of information, Seadog ! Thank you for those links. Based on this information, it seems very likely that none of the radio towers exist today. That reduces the workload for my SanFran 2005 project by around 0.0002 per cent :-lolChris Low.PS. Chris,KPGM is the one you and I discussed by email a few weeks ago. There's no station in California with those call letters now. As for KEEN, no US radio station currently uses those letters. KLIV still exists in San Jose. All the information I get on those comes from this site:http://www.radio-locator.com/The best way to search for what you need is probably to do it by city and state, and then look at the locations to see which current station might have the tower you're looking for. Yes, I was aware that I had mentioned that radio tower on here, but I didn't realise that I had referred to it as KPGM.I will have to look around for information regarding the KLIV towers. The location of these towers on the San Jose East DRG map appears to be a housing estate in the SanFran texture maps ! The Terraserver colour images stop just west of here, so the evidence is sketchy.Chris Low.

Chris,I did some more poking around, looking at the DRG maps myself and trying to match coordinates with the radio locator database - no joy. Then I searched for KEEN AM (had to be AM because there was more than one tower). Ultimately found a tower website you may or may not find useful at http://www.brainygeography.com/types/CA.tower.html and finally found some references to the frequency of the old KEEN AM (1370).
