Dittingen LSPD Airshow 2005There was a Spitfire here also. A rebuilt Spitfire MJ-10 scaled to 3:4 of a Mk V, assembled in 10'000 working hours during the last 12 years at LSGB (Switzerland). http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/P1010630.JPGCompare the size to the original Corsair F4U. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/P1010634.JPGIt was a sad afternoon here, bad weather and the lost of this plane, killing the pilot during the flight exhibition, crashing in a unpopulated part of the forest near LSPD. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/P1010635.JPG :-wave agtim

Thanks for the photos, guys ;)Andre, that's a very sad story indeed :-( The aircraft looked beautiful. Was any reason given for the crash? When I was doing the GeeBee, I had a few emails from Delmar and I got the impression that he'd lost some good friends through airshow crashes over the years. It must have been a relief to hand the R2 over to the museum - at least nobody would ask him to fly it again (flying was never the problem - try landing it...).The photos are still nice though :-wave

Andre,Those are great pics and I too am saddened by the loss of the pilot... but... I feel the need to lodge a complaint on behalf of AVSIM.The limit for pictures used to be 700X(something), 130K bytes, and a max of 5 pics. They have loosened those restrictions and the current limit is 1024X768, 150K bytes, and a max of 10 pics. The good news is that you did 3... well within that limit. The bad news:Your pics are 2304X1728 and 298K bytes (nearly double). You have already posted them and even if I did remove the post the pics would remain in the AVSIM picture archive until somebody got around to removing them. So I'm not going to remove it... but... I can't guarantee you that somebody higher up than myself (almost anybody) wont come along and do so.You are a great guy and an outstanding contributor to this forum but please in the future keep those limits in mind. OK? :)

Hi Tom,Yes I agree, they are very large (as wallpapers are ;-).I looked to the restriction as they will be applied on uploaded pictures only, but my pictures are on my own server and just connected by the link in the text.I often use this way to keep my picture online with the text for a long time and not just for 2 weeks.I understand that AVSIM must delete pictures after a while or the resource needs will blow up.Well this was an exeptional size, but now are the size limits just for the uploaded pictures or for all ? :-wave agtim

That's a good question Andre. The file size can't be objectionable regarding storage, since it's on your server. But I think AVSIM still may object, for two reasons. A larger file will take longer to download, really slowing down those on dial-up, and I think they may like for folks not to have to scroll all over the place to see the entire image. But like Tom, I have no urge to delete the post, as the images are excellent. What a shame that such a fine aircraft was lost.Tom is off-line for a day or two, as he took his system (and his wife's system) into the shop for hard drive upgrades. Five hundred gigabytes of HD should be *plenty* of room to breathe. :-)

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

Hi Robert,Yes for dial-up users it a pain at this size, it's the original camera size. I will resize it down to a normal size - I just have to upload the new resized pictures on my server :-) :-wave agtim
