agtim in England

Like me, Andre (agtim) Meystre recently went to UK. Unlike me, he made it the cultural, social and educational heartland of that great country (I am referring, of course, to Biggin Hill), and very kindly sent me some of his holiday snaps and permission to put same up here. So here are some quick comparisons between the FU3 world and his shots, from a models point of view. But since agtim also went to London City Airport, here are some comparisons from there:Greater London Authority building:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170051.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170052.jpgOK, I haven't included the new office blocks just behind GLA. Yet.Here's LCA:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170053.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170054.jpgTook me a week to make those odd buildings. I ain't fast. Here's LCA from the other end.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170055.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170056.jpgNote the orange buildings in the background. I added a tank (I thought the house would need water). They are ugly houses. But they are there. And here's Biggin Hill:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170057.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170058.jpgThis is a famous chapel. The planes are there, and I think they are in the correct locations (near as I could make out), but they don't show on agtim's photo. But he took separate pics showing them. And here's the terminal.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170059.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170060.jpgThat's all I can attach here.Robert.

Very nice Rob :-) The custom buildings represent their real-life versions well. In most cases it would be a good idea to add some adjacent buildings, especially when the characteristic buildings being modelled are part of a cityscape. That's where a wide selection of generic buildings may come in handy.

Rob, your original creations are extraordinarily handsome and faithful, a pleasure to compare to reality. That GLA structure is a superb accomplishment, as are the others. But that one was a true tour de force. Hats off to you, sir.-Seadog

Hans Petter, you are absolutely correct. At my speed I can't make all (or even many) of the buildings, and generic buildings help to fill in the gaps, and that was what first got me interested in your texture work - you seemed to capture the generic London buildings very well. And Hans, I know I owe you some model work - I'll get to it! Thanks too to Seadog for your comments. The GLA building was difficult. And especially thanks to agtim for sending me those photos - and for creating this whole "megascenery" with Cristian in the first place.Robert.

Hi Robert,I am back from my second trip to London via Luton.Luton was overloaded and so easyjet takes an additional turn over Duxford and Fowlmere - great surprise for me :-) http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/overduxford.JPG http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/duxfordturn.JPG http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/overfowlmere.JPGlater in the week I take a visite to the Cityhallhere now pictures inside out.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170929.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/170930.jpg :-wave agtim

Duxford looks very familiar! - the layout of the runway, the hangars etc. Nice detour and congrats on your own modelling! - spot on.I didn't go into the GLA myself when I was there. But I went into the Globe, Tate and many of the other buildings I'd modelled. That was good.General apologies for not doing much here for the past while - I've been a bit distracted by other things.Robert.

In the first UK Region London City was the first airport even much simpler than the current version and Elstree was built also usinf default buildings and FU3 Tower. I wanted to see it for real and take a short visite by London Transport. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElsTreeAerodrome.JPG http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/LakeRenegade.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/LakeRenegade2.jpgElstree Tower http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/171162.jpg :-wave agtim

After visiting Elstree it was a must to create it for FU3 :-) http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/Elstree2007.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreePKW.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreeC.jpgElstree Aerodrome is not a flat area. Runway 08 is a downslope.I have used high resolution pictures organized in 256x256 pixel tiles. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreeTile2.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreeTile1.jpgTaxiing with the Renegade and using F12 I defined the elevation at the tiles corners and set it relative to the deepest one (91m) as value for the Z value (normaly 0). http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreeP.jpgElstree looks realistic that way, just the AI will go underground at Runway 08, but operations are from runway 26 so they go into ground just after landing only. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreeT.jpgYou can use it with UK-Region. Stil under construction, but soon in the Library :-)There was a first version of Elstree at the time of the first UK-Tile ( Finsbury Park to London City Airport ) - stil in the AVSIM Lib. as LondonDevKit.zip and there are about 5 tiles around the first one in the Library too. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/oldlcy.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/oldElstree.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/OldStatus.jpgTile names have changed since this time. The new elevation will not fit but I can provide a new quality elevation for this old kit on request. :-wave agtim

Hi Hans,Thanks for Feedback, now I have added much more trees along final on rw26 and the powerlines north of the aerodrome also. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreePSP.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreePWR.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreeRW26.jpg http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/ElstreeFinal.jpgThere is a nice roundtrip video at YouTube to compare FU3 with the real world.Elstree procedures, runway 08

have flown the same track with FU3. :-wave agtim

A suggestion: How about editing out / over-texturing the parked aircraft? If you put real models where the "footprints" are located it would look better without the aircraft imprints below.Hans Petter
