Seriously annoyed

Recommended Posts

Guest colsie12

HI all. Thought I would pay a visit I have been away playing MSFS for a while (sorry I know I have been bad), this is down to a friend borrowing FU3. Anyway to the point. As some are aware I was haveing issues with FU3 so I had todo a manual uninstallation reg etc. So today haveing got it back I decided to install it as MSFS is really annoying me. During the install I get to 55% and then the recticle file I believe they are called fail to install. I have tryed many things to fix it but nothing works (I tell ti to retry then ignore)it then installs with no more problems but, I load the game and only get the EA and LG screen then blank then it returns to my desktop .I could do a manual installation of the game as I have done once before but can not remember how to do so and when I do a manual installation add-ons do not work.Or do I have to wait until I get my new computer to attempt and install. I just do not know if vista will run it. Any help advice etc is appreciated. If possible asap. thank you all. I really miss this sim.

Hi, think you have problem with the CDs. Take the tool alcohol120% to create virtual CDs of the 3 installation CDs so you can see if the CD image is ok, then install from this virtual CDs.Good luck:-waveAndre

The disks are fine, I think. I have just completed a typical installation with no problems, but I went to fly and when it begins loading AI traffic it minimises and tells me failed to initalise or something along those lines.

Colin,If it gets through the startup but hangs on AI, then try removing a few airports from the Seattle or Outer regions. I believe that 75 is the limit for Seattle but OT is added in there as well. Sanfran doesn't affect it, nor does any other region - 75 is the limit in any region (I think). I keep trapping myself with this, as I have lots of my own airstrips, requiring me to remove a few of the 'bogus' originals, like Yoosun etc. I actually have about 15 originals removed right now.Otherwise, there IS an AI problem. In that case, turn the AI down to zero and try it again. If you have any of your own airports in there, you can have to airports on the same frequency etc, and this is a common cause of AI crashes ;)As to Vista, I cannot vouch for it myself, but a number of people seem to have success with it.BTW, do Andre's suggestion of creating VCDs of FU3 anyway :-waveRegards,Jon Point

The Sold Out version of FU3 has a sticker on the front of the DVD case, stating that the software is Vista compatible.

It works. I just had todo many install attempts. I have got some nice aircrfat and the seattle region 2005 add-on. Never have I made so many changes to update a game. I have a tree update from Jonathan Point I believe and the trees still lok like blurs though. Any advice. I have done the install etc a few times just be sure I done everythign right, so I am certain I made no mistakes. Never has a sim had so few developers and devoted users who continue to see it strive. I am proud to be one of us. I would like to become a developer but I can not get my head around it. Cant wait for the new antonov to be released.

Colin,Yes, we like our little sim, we do :-lolFU3 is like Windows XP right now. There are so many updates that doing a fresh install requires a lot of work to bring it up to speed. This is why I always advise people that, once you have a stable, updated install, COPY IT! Put in on DVDs, or hide it in a folder on a backup drive etc. This makes the reinstall much easier and faster.BTW, most reinstalls I've done have been a waste of time, because the fault usually only involves one or two files. The AI example is one, another was making night models with a different polycount to the day ones. If you take a leaf out of a developer's book (and I am not a developer, just someone that enjoys tinkering), document your changes in a textfile in the Flight3 folder and keep backups of changed files. That way, if FU3 refuses to load or CTDs for no reason, look at the textfile and undo whatever the last thing was. If that doesn't work, go back further.I am flattening airstrips in the Seattle region with the new 1m terrain. This would add a lot to my existing log file, so for now I just keep everything. This is my geos folder:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/181151.jpgAs you can see, I have a backup of each modification and each TGA file that produced it. If I suddenly find mountains where they shouldn't be (don't laugh), I can just go back a few steps. Notice the '677ft' textfile. I just use the file's name to record the altitude setting - there is nothing inside it.Now, the tree update. You say they are still blurry. Do they look like these?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/181152.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/181153.jpgIf so, you did OK. If not, make a backup and try again. It is important to overwrite the old mipfiles after they are extracted. As this update requires rebuilding the modelmip.tag file without renaming it, use times and dates to keep track of versions, and always work from a backup. :-waveRegards,Jon Point

It's a shame that you didn't install the FU2 San Francisco scenery during the FU3 installation process. That region has also been extensively updated, particularly if you add the SanFran 2006 upgrade pack ;-)

These are my trees now. Are they better than the default (I relsed a mistake i had made in original installation).trees1.jpgtrees2.jpgAs you can see in the photos my scenery quality is poor (this is apex airport), can I improve it the sliders are at max so I am a little confused. This is afert teh seattle 2005 uodate it has worked as Apex is identified as quartermaster and I cans ee a diffrence at airports. It is just this general ground scenery which is the issue.Another few questions I am updateign my computer will this use a full 256mb graphics card and use a dual core processor at its potential. Each core is 2.66ghz so will the game run on one core useing the full 2.66ghz. Oh no I have another difficult install ahead. And can I improve the water and cloud textures as can be seen in another post. Thank you.Sorry for the questions. Thanks in advance.

The trees in your screenshots are default ones. Jon's new trees look much better. As for the ground textures, you appear to be running FU3 in software mode. You need to change this to PRIMARY DISPLAY DRIVER. This can be done from the OPTIONS screen.I would also strongly recommend that you set FSAA (full scene anti-aliasing) to at least 4x, and AF (anisotropic filtering) to at least 8x. FSAA smooths out jagged edges to objects and the horizon, and AF removes that horrible terrain texture shimmering.

Colin,It looks to me like FU is confused about where the higher resolution scenery tiles are located. The path to these files is held in the region.cfg file in the folder for the region i.e. ..regionsseattle or ..regionssanfran etc.Either the path is incorrect, or the files are missing from the specified folder, so FU will only display the low resolution tiles found in the ..regionssanfranmaps folder or ..regionsseattlemaps folder.Cheers:-wave Bruce H

There's something missing there. Now, ignoring where my files are, does yours have a similar line? Yours SHOULD be different but it should have a similar reference. I use binfiles, all in the same folder but your hi-res CPD files may be in your cdrom folder. Regards,Jon Point
