Well folks, I turned 40 today and...

Recommended Posts

...my family got me an aerobatic flight in a Tigermoth for a present :-)I spent about 35 minutes over Cockburn Sound, South of Perth doing loops, rolls, stall turns, wing overs and finally some awesome spins in VH-FAS from the Royal Aero Club of Western Australia.Flying in an open cockpit is an amazing experience. Everyone needs to do it at least once.http://members.iinet.net.au/~portercb/flypics/DSC00509.JPG http://members.iinet.net.au/~portercb/flypics/DSC00511.JPGThis could get extremely habit forming :-)Cheers,Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern Australiahttp://www.fsd-international.com/images/FSD_beta_tester.jpg[h3] FSD Aircraft "Around the world" flight. Now at MUHA (Jose Marti Intl.) Chris:That is a great way to celebrate the 40th. Much better than being on the receiving end of a bunch of black balloons and "over the hill" jokes.Congratulations!Doc Bryant

Now *that* is an aircraft! :-)Happy birthday to you, Chris. I hope you don't think 40 is old, as I turn 53 this Friday. And that's not old either. :-hahAnd yeah, I can see how that would get habit-forming. Reeeeeal easy. :-)~Bob~http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gif

Happy Birthday Chris :)Thanks for sharing with the rest of us!I am sure that flight was a blast, and it sounds like you have a GREAT family too. I passed the 40 mark almost 9 years ago, so take consolation that you will never be as old as me!!!!!Cheers to you down under,Den

Happy Birthday, Chris! That is a fine present your family got for you. And yes, aerobatics can be habit forming, but then so is anything that involves flying. :-)

Ted, Dennis and Scott,Thanks so much for your kind wishes. Guess I am pretty lucky that my wife thought of the Tiger/aero thing and then went and arranged for it without me suspecting for a moment. Suppose she has really been taking some notice of my passion for flying after 14 years of marriage :-)Cheers and best regards to you all,If I may indulge myself a little more, this is my wife Denise and myself while on holidays a few weeks ago :-)http://members.iinet.net.au/~portercb/flypics/Dsc00491_2.jpgThis is where we stayedhttp://members.iinet.net.au/~portercb/flypics/Dsc00493_2.jpgAnother scene on one of our bush walkshttp://members.iinet.net.au/~portercb/flypics/Dsc00492_2.jpgChris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern Australiahttp://www.fsd-international.com/images/FSD_beta_tester.jpg[h3] FSD Aircraft "Around the world" flight. Now at MUHA (Jose Marti Intl.) Nice water, good trees, rocks, and a flowing stream -- looks like some places in the Tennessee/North Georgia/North Carolina areas.Jerry K. ThorneEast Ridge, TN.

Chris, please accept my sincere, but belated, congratulations! On multiple scores, I might add. Thoughtful wife, great flight and great place to live. I have spent a lot of time in Australia, but never your neck of the woods. If the Freemantle replacement program for the Navy goes through, you may find me knocking on your door sometime. :)Welcome to the nearly "old #####" zone (where Doc, Lindy, Meekal, the Porkman and I live permanently and there is no "nearly" about it). :-lolEDIT: dang software... It won't even let me use the word... Scott????? :-lol

Yeah, why I sometimes miss back home in the Carolinas and Georgia. Not much scenery like that out here in the Okies. There's a few interesting places but it seems you have to look a little harder to find them.

Hi Tom,Thanks for your very kind words. You are always welcome here if you get to Perth sometime. On a more personal note, the reason for the holiday was that since January...My dad passed away from a heart attack,Denise's mum was tragically killed in a car accident,Denise's uncle died of cancer and finallyDenise's dad died of cancer about 6 days before those holiday pics were shot.So things have not been too good in the Porter household and we needed a break away with the kids. We could not have invented a worse period in our lives in our most wildest dreams. The upshot is that I have found some solace with my friends in the Pro Pilot forum albeit with some regret that I have not been here too often in the recent past. It's sure is good to be back with some folks that I feel I know better than some blood relations.Cheers everybody and enjoy your families to the fullest while you can.Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern Australiahttp://www.fsd-international.com/images/FSD_beta_tester.jpg[h3] FSD Aircraft "Around the world" flight. Now at MUHA (Jose Marti Intl.) Chris, please accept my sympathies on the loss of your dad, and give Denise my condolences for the deaths of both her parents and uncle. It sounds as if the Porter family has had a pretty bad year. Let's hope the second half of 2002 is more cheerful. And getting older is no big deal -- enjoy it. -Lindy :-wave

Yes Chris, enjoy!I got called "old man" just today. I am up in New York on what was to be just a trip to play trains. I am staying with friends who were called to post this morning by me long before the alarm clock sounded. I was told that was an "Old Man" trait. On a side note to the group, I will be out of touch for a few days as I also am going to attend a memorial service for my mother, who passed away on Tuesday 14 May.And Dudley, I am headed to Altoona PA now! Be there, LOL. :+Doc Bryant

Tom,Were you trying to type "old far*" as in English money of old -- farthing or a far thing?I just got off a flight from Paris after a few days in Portugal, again! Heading home shortly, just one more short flight to Chattanooga.Jerry K. ThorneEast Ridge, TN.

Happy Birthday Chris. Having celebrated my 40th, 50th, 60th and next month 66th, let me say that as long as you have your health, age don't mean a thing.Did he let you taxi the tigermoth? Half the fun of flying a taildrager is taxing them.Once again Happy 40th.Ed Weber a.k.a tallpilot

Hi Ed, Thanks for that. No I didn't get to taxy this one, however I have taxyed a C180 (VH-MYP) at YPJT before and I made like a drunken snake most of the time :-)Cheers,Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern Australiahttp://www.fsd-international.com/images/FSD_beta_tester.jpg[h3] FSD Aircraft "Around the world" flight. Now at MUHA (Jose Marti Intl.)
