Wed flight - monsoons started, Forest reopens - photos

Recommended Posts

I was going to fly up to Seligman (Rt 66) with George in his C172 for breakfast, but squall cells were all around to the north. So, we flew over my house and went looking in the Verde Valley for some of the forest trails my volunteer group had been unable to find from the ground. The Verde is a hot-bed generator of monsoon T-storms. Caught just a few sprinkles. Then along the east side of Mingus Mt. back to KPRC. Great flight. Last of my cheapie digital photos.Bought a Nikon after the flight.Danhttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d382b687bb84d9f.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d382bc47c7c78ed.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d382c247d9b8006.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d382c547e05270b.jpg

Hi Geof, good to hear from a fellow Michigander (31 years in Milford - GM Proving Ground).>I have a nikon also-coolpix 775Mine's a coolpix 2500 - nice camera, 3x glass, 4x digital telephoto.Your pictures from your "western swing" (as above) were instrumental in "making" me upgrade to a good camera. >Just outside Wilcox, Az near Tuscon-somewhat near your stomping grounds?!Not really. Wilcox is on I-10, about 60 nm east of Tucson. So, Wilcox is about 185 nm on the 125 radial from KPRC Prescott. Which takes you through the "Outlaw" and "Jackal Low" MOA's and across several mountain ranges.Using roads, it's a huge amount of mileage and hours more. Mountains are funny like that, eh ? :-lol I've been to Wilcox via ground several times before moving to AZ.Explored the Cochise stronghold area in the Chiricahua Mts. about 30 nm southeast of Wilcox. Probably why Wilcox is in Cochise County, the airport is Cochise County (P33) and the VOR is CIE (Cochise). Great country, has a Nat'l Monument and Wilderness Area.Another bit of real trivia. Around the 1500's, the Apaches lived about 10 miles south of my hometown in the western Nebraska Sandhill cattle ranching area, along the Dismal River (yes!). Before we white people kicked successive Indian tribes with horses out of our way, and they in turn kicked the Apaches' butts all the way to the southeastern Arizona desert."Horse soldiers" rule. So did Geronimo after he got horses and Winchester repeaters.Dan
