The fuselage is joined!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was a milestone day! I finished riveting the fuselage center section skeleton and bottom skin together then joined it with the aft section. There are four new pictures showing the current status of my RV-9A project. I stayed up later than usual to reach this psychological point in the construction. I took these pictures around 2:15 A.M. before heading off to bed.http://home.earthlink.net/~n2prise3/rv9a023.htmJerry K. ThorneEast Ridge, TN

And educational, too.

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

Thanks, Bob!It has been educational for me as well. All the things I learned when I was building radio-controlled models is now being applied on a grand scale -- full scale!Jerry K. ThorneEast Ridge, TN

Jerry,I enjoy these pics too, because of the new & entirely different (jig-less) way of putting the RV together.............. which of course, is the much "improved" way. I've seen numerous RV-9's, but never in the frame up stage, therefor these pics are very interesting. My RV6A had to be all framed all at once, upside down like a boat. All the bulkheads, stringers, and longerons had to be in place & perfectly squared & level before skinning. And the rivit holes will "never" look as straight as the pre-drilled skins of today's kit's. At least my wings & new horizontal stab/elevators (after destroying the originals) were pre-punched.L.Adamson

Larry,I was just looking at Van's web site last night and noticed that some of the pre-punched designs are finding their way backward into the older kit designs. RV-4 and RV-6 wings are now available pre-punched.Jerry K. ThorneEast Ridge, TN
