777: "Landing Altitude" illuminated constantly - why?

I am still getting familiar with the aircraft and have yet to fly an FMC controlled VNAV/LNAV flight so for now all flights are with the MCP+AP or FD. On every flight, "Landing Altitude" is annunciated on the PFD or the EICAS from the start of loading the 777 anywhere in the world. Why is this and can I fix it in the absence of doing an FMC-controlled flight?Appreciate any assistance here, thanks!JS
