Scott, Thanks for giving me the info on the Controller and Pilot files and for the short Zip file. On my machine the 1/2MB Zip sounds were damn good. You got the trick now. Thanks and Cheers

Scott,Thanks for putting up the Real Player file on your site. It sounds great, just like what we are all looking for and knew RC3 was capable of. My RC3 sounds about 25% of the speed of your Real Player file if my CPU resources are loaded to 100% which is very easy to do by just using a Payware airplane, a net connection weather program, or by having an addon terrain mesh program. However, my system runs superbly with all of those things running at the same time and spits out FPS in the 30's. I am wondering what the system specs were for yourself and the Beta Testors. Windows? Sound Card? Processor? Addons? Do you see your system using 100% CPU resources like mine does or how much processor resources is your system using when you get Radar Contact to perform so well like on your file tape?I have a feeling that my Soundblaster Audigy Platinum soundcard is to blame. I do not have the ability to adjust the number of Simultaneous Wave Files on it, or I can't find it if it does. Something like that sure sounds like the answer to me. I have taken the liberty of copying an earlier post that I made under your other thread. I hope it might shed some light for all of us to pointing us in the right direction to correcting our individual systems. Thanks,Bob, Rogers, Arkansas 36. "Eureka! I think I have found it!"In response to message #0 Well, lots of observations through lots of trials. Lots of conclusions based upon a "computer illiterate" brain that I possess. My apologies in advance if I rattle on for awhile.System:P4 2.2 gigSoundblaster Audigy Platinum Sound CardVisiontek GF4 Ti 4600DirectX 9 BetaWindows XP Professional with service pack 1 installedOK. Downloaded latest sound card drivers from Creative. No change in RC3 performance. Downloaded 4109 video driver from Nvidia. No change. Defragged hardrive. No change. With Windows XP you can hit ctrl/alt/delete and bring up Task Manager. Since I use four monitors I pulled Task Manager where I could see what was going on while using FS2002 and RC3. My CPU was running at 100%. I sat with FS2002 cranked up while in the default Cessna 172 at KASG airport looking South. The ATIS was very slow as it had been before. I noticed the "mountains" of the Ozarks (really hills) and remembered I had one of those terrain CD programs installed. Shut down and took the terrain programs out. Went back to same situation and I noticed I was making immediate progress with CPU useage being less. So much so that the ATIS was playing quite OK. Then, I started playing around with lots of video selections. I turned off all video options. Frame rates went through the roof at around 150 or so. Radar Contact was chiping out the ATIS just fine and I was noticing it hardly used any CPU resources at all-from 2 to 5 percent and that only occured when a wave file needed to be brought up it looked like. Radar Contact ran just fine. I shut down two of my four monitors. That brought CPU useage down also but not much even though there was nothing being put on the other monitors except Task Manager. I one by one brought back up the video selections to maximum and checked the results with Task Manager. I also selected weather programs and different airplanes and different cockpit views. Summary:1. It seems you must have overall CPU useage less than 100% for Radar Contact to run smoothly. Something under about 95% on down or so seems best.2. Radar contact uses hardly any system CPU resources at all. Only a couple of percent and that is not very often.3. FS2002 is a CPU hog and will skyrocket to 100% if you select any sort of difficult scenery backgrounds while on the ground. This makes ATIS in RC3 sound choppy and slow. 4. Selecting the virtual cockpit sends the CPU to 100% immediately and it stays there. 5. Turning off the 2d Cessna panel uses more, not less CPU resources. A big suprise to me. Using the IFR panel really brings down system CPU useage.6. Tried several other Payware airplanes and they all sent CPU useage to 100% immediately whether in 2d or Virtual cockpits. 7. Tried the default 737 and it sent the CPU to 100% also. Only the default Cessna worked although I did not try all the other default airplanes. 8. Once airborne on a flight plan from Springdale (KASG) to Olathe, Kansas, at 6,000' I started selecting all the video options one by one back on again and the CPU stayed well below 100% and Radar Contact ran beautifully the whole way. If you come back down the useage will go back up and Radar Contact once again slows down. 9. Using terrain mesh programs will stick my CPU to 100% whether or not I have the Terrain Mesh Complexity slider full off or not. Only removing the program got the CPU useage down. 10. Using online weather programs sends my CPU immediately to 100% and it stays there no matter what else I do. Radar Contact suffers appropriately. Using weather selected within FS2002 (not online weather) works just fine with minimal CPU impact. I only tried broken clouds in my face.11. Using Adventure Display sent CPU right up to 100%. Docked or not. Any sort of additional message display window wreaked havoc on the program unless I stuck it on a second monitor. Interestingly, the default GPS window did not cause much of a problem whether on the main screen or on a second monitor. Conclusions:1. There is nothing wrong with Radar Contact. It is an outstanding program. It hardly drains any resources at all.2. A solution needs to be found to enable FS2002 to share resources with Radar Contact if that is possible, or to enable Soundblaster Audigy Platinum (and others I'm sure) sound cards to butt in and play these wave files when FS2002 has maxxed your computer out to 100% and that is about all the time if you are doing anything. 3. I am certain that you computer wizards out there will have this problem fixed in no time. I sincerely hope this is of some help,Bob, Rogers, Arkansas

how many people having controller/pilot speed problems are running directx 9 beta?anyone with problems, not running directx 9 beta?

Just got your sample-thanks for posting it.I would be a happy camper if mine sounded like that-I'd estimate on average 50-75% slower.Athlon 210040 gig driveAvance Ac'97 for Via motherboard audio (legacy drivers)DX 8.2 with sound as Primary Sound Driver (not DirectSound)Geforce4 Ti4200 with 128 megs, single monitorDslWin xp home editionFS2002gpsoutFS2002 set for about high everythingB33 debonair aircraft, few add-on sceneries My trafficIt also seems the higher powered machines are reporting problems?!http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif

Geof,> Avance Ac'97 for Via motherboard audio (legacy drivers)> My trafficThat would most likely be the reason.

Sorry-I mispoke my sound card (just upgraded last week)It is a Realtek alc650 codecHowever,I really can not agree here.a) lots of people are reporting this with different sound cards:( I pulled my sound blaster live out because I get much better performance with the on board onec) the ms atc performs flawlessly as do all my other programs that use soundI agree with the above post from the user with a different slant. I think when ms gets logged up-the visual basic is just too slow to keep up. http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif

Geof,I agree, and until we can find a single solution, we have to assume that there are different problems on different systems. It is possible that VB is bogging down, and FSUIPC could even be getting overwhelmed. But since there are many testers with many different set-ups, some with multiple add-ons and special aircraft, and lots of AI, and none reported this problem, we'll just have to ask and gather data. The more you all can test different things, the faster we can get to the bottom of this and exterminate it with extreme prejudice.

Hi JD, Yes I have mentioned the staccato sounds on V3 here at my machine. Running XP-P with DirectX 8.1 Scotts short file almost does the trick to a T .Regards

Hi Scott,I also have the slow RCV3 problem. I am wondering if the WindowsXP Pro NTFS file system using indexing has anything to do with it. I know it is slower that a FAT32 system. Scott,I forgot to mention I also am running Windows Media Player 9.0 Beta. I have been told by others that FS2002 uses the Windows Media Player codecs or something to do with media player as a channel for its sound files. I do not know this or know that much about sound production. I am just passing on what I heard from a friend of mine that had sound problems with FS2002 awhile back and was told about the media player connection and FS2002 by one of the MS FS2002 help desk programmers. He had my friend reinstall media player and his problem did clear up. Gary

Hi,I couldn't resist the urge to experiment. None of my experiments were successful. Did a system restore on Windows XP to get rid of DirectX 9 Beta. I now have 8.2 release version. Didn't change a thing except make my system run slower with FS2002. RC3 was, if anything, worse. Uninstalled through Control Panel everything related to FS2002. Airplanes, AI stuff, FS NAV 4.51, FS FlightMax, sceneries, etc etc etc. Then uninstalled FS2002. Went to Microsoft Games and totally deleted FS2002. Uninstalled RC3. Reinstalled them both with full versions. Now, using a plain jane vanilla default Cessna 172 in a completely fresh installation of both programs, my CPU is locked at 100% and no matter what I do with settings I cannot get it to come down to allow RC3 to work. In other words, everything got worse. Regular running of the FS2002 without RC3 remains in the 30 to 40 FPS all options maxxed, rolling along smoothly, but with the processor maxxed out. Seems like my combo of DirectX 9 and 4109 video driver was a better option, but it still was unworkable with RC3. Well, I tried. If nothing else, I feel some possible problem areas have been eliminated from the equation for solving the problem. Doesn't seem to be a function of your addons, your video driver, DirectX or defragging. I guess it's not with the sound card either from seeing guys with different cards. I am totally stumped and, well, I have done all the monkey see, monkey do, tricks that I can think of. My mind is at peace.Good luck,Bob, Rogers, ArkansasSystem:Alienware "Area 51" P4 2.2 Gig1 Gig PC 800 Ram80 gig 7200 RPM DriveVisiontek Geforce 4 Ti 4600DirectX 8.2Nvidia 30.82 (tried a few others as well)Creative Soundblaster Audigy with latest Creative Driver4 Monitors 1-21"/3-17" (extra tubes on or off made little change)All settings lowest possible (I tried them all)FPS around 75 to 100No luck
