May 30, 200323 yr I wanted to know what is the best way to set up the flight plan to get vestorts after takeoff.. for example departure tells me after takeoff turn heading "something" etc..If I rememn=mber correctly there was something about dependant on where your next point is something less or more then 30NM.. don't remember correctly.Maybe it is possible to get them to say "Clear for takeoff fly hdg 300 after TO CLMB and maintain 5000" for example something like that... not just "...fly Rwy hdg..."I do not use SIDS or STARS doesnot mean I won't if this was required to get these kinds of msgs.. but I don't think so I think if I rememmber correctly to use SIDS&STARS you just set the (flexable dep procedure)Thanks for info.Andy
May 30, 200323 yr The only time the 30nm limit will mean anything is if you have "Flex DP" checked. With "Flex DP" checked make sure your first waypoint is >30nm from airport. This is to allow you to fly any SID you want without it actually being included in the filed plan as long as you are within 30nm from airport (all SIDS that I know of). Just remember to be on course to your first "filed" waypoint by the time you are 30nm from the airport. In answer to your 2nd question there are three possible clearances that tower will give you if you have "Flex DP" off:1) "Fly runway heading" - which you have obviously heard2) "Fly heading XXX" - means to start a turn to that heading prior to reaching 450ft above ground level.3) "Leaving (altitude) fly heading XXX" - means as you climb through that altitude begin turn to assigned heading.I hope this helps.Regards,Nick Anzelino
May 30, 200323 yr Thanks for your info.So what be the best way to write a flight plan to hear RC say one of the 2 msg you wrote...2) "Fly heading XXX" - means to start a turn to that heading prior to reaching 450ft above ground level.OR3) "Leaving (altitude) fly heading XXX" - means as you climb through that altitude begin turn to assigned heading.First one obviesly I heard :-)Thanks
May 30, 200323 yr To my knowledge these are determined by ATC based on whatever runway you are using for T/O and the heading required to get you to your initial waypoint. Just keep using RC with various flights and you will hear them all soon enough. You can also try requesting a runway that will have you departing in the opposite direction as your first waypoint. This has gotten me the "Fly heading XXX" on numerous occasions.Nick Anzelino
May 30, 200323 yr Commercial Member if you want departure to give you vectors, to follow your departure procedure, that won't happen in rc, or in real lifeif you want vectors by departure to on course, then put your first checkpoint >30 miles from the departure airportif you do flexible departure procedure, or your first checkpoint < 30 miles from the airport, you will not get any vectors - it assumed since you filed it, or checked the flex dp box, you know how to fly it and you will.
