OK here is my system:Athlon XP2000+GF4-Ti4600512MB PC2100Asus A7S333I have been setting up my new system and had kind of big performance drop ( I think ) when going from DX8.0 t DX8.1 - maybeits not related to that - don't know.Anyway I saw you posting and my 3dMark seem very low. Do you haveany idea what I could try to tweak? I have a testflight with the C182 sitting at KSFO 28R midday, clearskys, all sliders 100% exceptmesh ( 70 % ), AA2x, sitting in VC @.80 zoom. I was getting 14 - 16 FPS then - boom only 10 or so.Here is the poor 3dmarkhttp://service.madonion.com/servlet/Index?...ojectId=3681499Anybody have an idea where I should start? Thanks,Myles

Also need to know wha drivers and settings you have there.Go back to your MadOnion benchmark online and check the box marked PUBLISHED and then clicked the reset button, this will allow others to view your results as well as give you an new Compare URL to cut and paste here.Did you re-install your drivers after you installed DX8.1?Did you also say what OS you are using?Regards,Video Guy :-lol PS: My Sons name is Myles as well, but dont worry I wont call you son! :)

Paul, here is a better ( probably should still be higher ) 3dmark:http://service.madonion.com/servlet/Index?...ojectId=3683336I think my 5000 range test where when AA and antisio = 16 was turned on.Here are my bios settings:AGP Apeture = 64AGP = 4xAGP Fastwrite = ONunder PCI there is one I am not sure about:PRIMARY VGA BIOS = PCI VGA CARDThanks,Myles

Myles, surely you don't have the BIOS setting to a PCI card. If you do, change to AGP card and re-try your tests. dek

>>PRIMARY VGA BIOS = PCI VGA CARDThis setting is needed only when you have 2 graphic cards installed, it won't effect anything with only 1 card installed.

Hi Paul, first of all post your compare URL for ur 3DMark score. You can find that if you open the your project in the ORB. The link u provided does not work.Then:1. Did you uninstall the drivers correctly before installing the new ones?. Depending on ur OS it s not enough to simply uninstall the drivers from the control panel. Depending on ur OS there will be driver residue that will get mixed up with the new driver. Edit ur registry, or if u do not know how to do that get the proggie detonator destroyer from www.3dguru.com, or was ir www.guru3d (that does not apply if u r using WinXP though)?2. What drivers are u using. The latest from Nvidia for ur GF 4 are 29.42.3. Depending on Mobo. If you have a Via chipset install the latest VIA 4in1 drivers. Latest ones should be 4.85.4. Go slow on Aperture size. Try 128 or even 64.Hope that helps. If not give me more details (BIOS settings, Mobo etc.)

Myles,You need to follow my instructions on publishing your results as all of your MadOnion results are dead.It would also still help if you provided the info on your Mother board.>Here are my bios settings: >>AGP Apeture = 64Try 128 and see if you can get all the way through the 3Dmark benchmark, if you can lets compare the details of your 64 vs 128 settings in detail so make sure you "publish" those results and provide the "compare" url. >AGP = 4x leave for now.>AGP Fastwrite = ON You can turn this off as well.>under PCI there is one I am not sure about: >>PRIMARY VGA BIOS = PCI VGA CARD As mention you can leave as is or change it to AGP to make your self feel better :) as it only is enabled if you have two video cards installed and then will specifie which one is the primary card.>Do you have ANY other programs running like virus protection etc while you run FS2k2?Paul

Best 3D Mark results come from fresh installs of operating systems and nothing else in the way of drivers. You'll find you will gain a few thousand more marks if you do a fresh install of your O/S and videocard drivers and DX8.1.This was my benchmark when I had an A7V333, with 512MB PC2100 DDR with a new install of Win XPhttp://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=3541879

Hi John,I would generaly agree as most folks allow programs to load all kinds of stuff to run at startup when they install them as this seems to be the way these days which I think is a real problem. If you are carefull what and how you insatll as well as keep tabs on whats loading at start up and keeping things "clean" you will find no difference. Are you running your Epox yet?Paul

Which also brings up another point be very carefull when adding (if you have) custom AC and ATC as many of the aircraft not designed to also be ATC do not have multi-res models as the defaults do and this will create quite the performance hit when it all converges in one place at the same time. Also make sure you dont have ANY other programs running while running FS.As for comparing your 3Dmark score to mine, Dont! :) I am running at a very agresive O/C of CPU, FSB and Video card as well as very good memory timing and have set everything up in the BIOS and Windows for max performance for "my" system. Nothing is a magic wand (well except Barton and Hammer) but if you press all the right buttons for your >own< setup it can all add up to a nice gain. But its really best to educate yourself and learn rather then try to apply everyones great tips as many of them may actaully harm your system.Paul

>If you are carefull what and how you insatll as well as keep >tabs on whats loading at start up and keeping things "clean" >you will find no difference. Really? I found a difference with mine, I got around 4000 marks more with a fresh install. As for the EPoX, I had it running for a few days with my XP1700+ (Kind of running anyway.. needed to source some longer IDE cables. I then got myself a AGOIA week 4 1600+ (apparently they're an excellent overclocker) I installed my new CPU, went to run my PC and it wouldn't post. Turns out my GF4 was dead. I'm waiting on a replacement, won't be Mon 'til the earliest :(Then it'll be time to see if I can break the 11 or 12K mark with 3D Mark 2001 :-hah
