Back in Time FS-1960

Recommended Posts

Well, my site has problems, anyway... :)I am going to have to move my site later this summer, stay tuned. However, why I posted is that once I've moved the page, I'm going to upload a set of files that will allow you to create California in 1959, which should give you a good head start for the rest of the country. You will be able to go back to the modern day with a few clicks in the Scenery Library. (This will require you to be able to use TTools, the gvp decompiler, and possibly AFCAD).Here is what I've got at this point:http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...ad231ee467b.jpgThis is LAX in early 1959, before the new terminals (and before the jets). At the first terminal you can see an SAS DC-7C, which will leave for Copenhagen tonight via the Polar route. Most of the terminal is owned by Western, with it's many DC-6B's.The next terminal is dominated by American with DC-6B's and DC-7's, with Continental using a couple of gates (DC-7B's and Viscounts). The following terminal is dominated instead by United, also with big Doug's, and Convair 340's for the local runs. The far terminal hosts the local service airlines (Pacific and Bonanza), with their 404's and F-27's. And last but not least is TWA, with three flavors of Connies (L-749, L1049G, and L-1649A).Hope you enjoyed the look back,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Were the taxiway lines white back then, or is it only the screenshot? I've wondered that for a while now. :-)I don't think AFCAD will be needed to make the change - since many airports are involved it would be easier to simply replace the bgl files.Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

>A way to step back in time without the inconveniences; like >lack of air-conditioning. Yeah, I wonder why they don't make time machines with air conditioning! :-lolMartin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

Agreed. The only time you'd need AFCAD is if you had some modified vintage airports of your own in the same BGL file. You'd need it to combine my changes and your changes. The lines at LAX appear to be white in the pictures I've seen. However, I've just found pics of SFO during the same time, and they are yellow. Looks like it was the choice of the airport. Also, some airports used taxiway centerlines, others didn't. Striping in general apparently was a local decision back in those days.Take care,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Hi Tom, Love those old prop planes! Flew in some old Lockheed Electras up in Alaska a few years back. (well, many years back) and the noise and vibration was reassuring. Not that deadly silence of the interior of a new Airbus!! Born and raised in N. Calif, I'd love to do an airport, say KSMF, in the 1959 era. :-) I'll see what you have up on your site when it's working again and run a few ideas up the pole with ya.Best, Rob

http://avsim.com/flightdeck/images/Radar_small.gifBeta tester for Radar Contact] the premier ATC adventure add-on for FS
