Will RC Let You Leave Your Flight Unattended During Cruise?

Featured Replies

During the cruise session of the flight, I like to alt-tab and browse the net or even possibly interact with my wife. One good thing about the MS ATC is that it won't cancel your flight if you fail to contact a center frequency during the cruise portion. Thus, you can put your flight on autopilot, hand over the controls to the co-pilot, leave the computer, and go to the kitchen and fix that ham sandwich you've been wanting. Once near top of descent, you can come back and re-establish contact with center. Along more general lines, is RC punitive in nature? By that I mean, if you fail to follow directions such as hand-off, will RC harass you or will it cancel your flightpan? Harassing I can deal with but I don't like my flight plan being cancelled. That is one thing I don't like about the MS ATC, during the departure and approach phases it will take it upon itself to cancel your flight plan (ouch).

you can give the plane and the comms to the rc co-pilot, and he will handle everything for you.you can even set a distance to pause at, say 200 miles from the destination. start your flight from san francisco to sydney, set pause at 200, give the plane and comms to "otto", and go to bed.wake up in the morning, sim is paused 200 miles out of sydney, read for you to fly the last leg.we don't cancel your flight planjd

That's great news. The pause feature is very interesting. Thanks. Also, good luck on the new AI features that the RC people are working on. I'm really looking forward to it. Having ATC make even a modest attempt to integrate the user's plane with the AI will be a great step forward.
