The best place for me has been at Pilot Shops or Pilot Training Schools. In several just inside the door on a table, have been piles of outdated charts, and Plates... Last time I got plates for every field in CA, NV, AZ, OR, at in one trip. With Pilot shops, Id go in buy a tape or book and talk to the person when you ring them up. Do that a few times so they remember you, and ask if you can have obsolete charts. They only have to cut off the cover and send it for credit. Explain they are not for flying, but to use with the Flight Sim as a student. Wont guarantee you get them, you may have to go frequently or find out the date when they go obsolete, and get there the same day or day after, so they dont have to store them.

Thanks for your advice...one problem....only one flying school near me (I'm in Ireland) and you can bet that any obsolete charts they have are for the most remote grass strips on some mountain top and even then I doubt they'd give them to me....Has anyone tried Simcharts 2004??is it any good? I hear they have a new version coming out soon titled Simcharts 2006

Try going to Airnav.com. Scroll down to the bottom and there is a list of runways and approach plate pdf's. Just print them out.

I called Sporty's pilot shop, www.sportys.com, and the chart people there hooked me up with a DVD subscription. Every chart in the USA for $10 per cycle, basically per month. I print off what I need, if I desire.Wilson HinesMy Blog: http://www.wilsonhines.com --------------------------------------http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837438/3074.png

I have Simcharts 2004 with the three add-ons.US is pretty complete.None-US has many but is not all inclusive. Most of the former DAFIF supplied charts are there.Keep in mind that Simcharts is DPs, STARS, IAPs, US Preferred Routes, and international airport facilities listings (FAA and NIMA). No enroute other than US preferred route waypoint listings. You might be able to get Ireland approach charts at a reasonable collection rate since (with appologies) it is oned of the smaller geographical area countries. Try this link:http://www.vateir.com/airports.phpIf you want to fly around Germany, Switzerland, Austria, go to the vatsim.net SAG division. You can get to there and other European countries from this common link:http://vateud.org/default.php?section=1⊂=0Italy Vatsim:http://www.vatita.net/ has enroute and terminals.Under pilot resources they have excellent chart services and you do not need to be registered. It filled in holes in the Simcharts collection and even in the US DOD terminal info I purchased.Over time you might consider getting enroute charts which are harder to find free sources of.England has somed kind of download chart service but you have to register for it and state your purpose.US DPs, STARS, IAPs, and airport diagrams are downloadable from:www.naco.faa.com.Navigate to on-line resources, tpps, and pick your airport for a full range of charts in .pdf format. These are always current.

Hey everyone....this is great, thanks for all your responses, I'll check them all out...and yes when you can drive from the southern tip of your country to the northern tip in about 8 hours I would consider the country to be of negligible geographical consequence also...lol...but you gotta love the Irish
