Straight-in approach..... oh no!

Recommended Posts

Maybe it's this way in the real world but I find there is no such thing as an easy straight in approach with RC. Today's example has me going from VABB-OERK, approaching from the southeast, I was cleared to 33L. Doesn't get much straighter than that. I had descended to the specified altitude and was traveling about 200 kts. about 25 mi out, I'm directed to turn to heading 020 and we stayed like that til 32 mi out and past the airport! Now directed by to heading 240 for a sharp right turn to interecept 33L. It's not a biggie, but I notice it consistently that you are veered way off your intercept course then have to swiftly swing back. A 747 doesn't corner like a BMW ya know! LOL!Just curious. :) Otherwise, really enjoy RC.

that was probably a near straight in. not close enough for a straight in, which does exist.you're not supposed to stay on the 020 heading. you're supposed to turn onto the runway heading when appropriate. not keep flying past it.jd

Oh, sorry, I was just following directions of the controller. They get upset with me when I deviate from what they told me. So I just sit and wait for further instructions. I'll remember next time. Thanks

i forget what the exact wording of the clearance is, but it something "fly heading 020 until established.... rwy xx"if the localizer isn't being received, watch the heading to the airport, and as soon as it is equal to the runway heading, turn to the runway heading.jd

Another thing to watch out for is to make sure if you have the comms and are not using pilot auto-reply is to acknowledge ATC instructions so they are not waiting to issue the next in a tight dense situation.
