System Upgrade Question

Recommended Posts

Guest

Just wondering what some of your ideas might be. I have just upgraded my system and have decided to keep my existing video card until prices fall a bit. I am not sure if my existing card will bring the new system down or whether it can still perform well enough. What I will have at the end of the week:ASUS A7V333 MBO512 MB Kingmax PC 2700 RAM80MB Western Digital Caviar HD with 8MB cacheAthlon XP 2000+ CPUEnermax 350W Power SupplySoundblaster Audigy SCGeForce 2 GTS 64 MB video card** This is the original card I have been using. The GeForce 4 cards are still quite expensive in Canada. Will the GF2 GTS bring down the rest of the new system? Thanks for any comments!!John-PaulToronto

It won't "bring it down". But for really good performance, you could go with a GeForce3 Ti 200 or better, or a GeForce4 Ti 4200 for excellent performance and good value. You probably know to stay away from the GeForce4 MX series. Waste of money.Looks like you've put together a very nice system. I hang out a bit at the PC911 forum where many users are from Canada. Some of them are buying the GeForce 3 series and seem to be happy with it. Others are die-hard Radeon fans. I've been a Nvidia user for several years and plan to stay with Nvidia until something significantly better comes along. And I'm getting the urge to upgrade from my P-III-600 and Hercules 3D Prophet DDR-DVI (original GeForce). Looking for a better FS simming experience.:-kewl Allyn

I was told that the GF3 Ti200 wasn't much of an improvement over my GF2 GTS. The GF3 Ti500 is still well over $300 CDN here. A GF4 4400 is $385 CDN. I want to see if these prices fall in the near future. Thanks!J.

Hey J,You can pick up an AOpen Alolus GF4 Ti4200 w128 RAM for $285.60 at NCIX. As a bonus, if you don't live in BC, you don't pay for PST (still have to pay GST :-( and shipping of course). This card looks excellent for the price as it includes full Video In as well as out and has a decent VIVO bundle as well.http://www.ncix.com/canada/productdetail.p...158b4198de2c753And the cards product page:http://www.aopen.com/products/vga/gf4ti4200-dvc128.htmTake care,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif
