RC suddenly acting up and I don't know why

Featured Replies

The very first time RC started to act up was Monday. I tried to fly Concorde from EGLL-KJFK. Everything was going fine until I was airborne. Then I got some sort of FSUIPC error. Sorry but I don't know what it was exactly because I thought if I reinstalled RC and replaced FSUIPC, it would start working again. But now, I can't even load up a flight plan. I keep getting the following error.Run-time error '62':RadarContact.rcv4module.get_departure_informationIs there something I didn't do correctly/did do incorrectly? All I did was uninstall then reinstall RC V4.3 and replaced FSUIPC with the latest version. And I also Rebuilt the scenery database.I just remembered that I also edited the file with the radio frequencies which I usually do for PHNL. Excel gave me a strange warning about the format when I went to save the file. If this is in fact the error, I did something really dumb and didn't back it up first. Please don't tell me the only way I can get it back it to reinstall again.Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa296.png

Hi Ryan,If you have used Excel to edit any of the CSV files that will have corrupted the data. I believe the manual explicitely states not to use Excel for this purpose.I suggest you deinstall and reinstall RC and if you want to edit any data in the CSV files you right-click it and choose "Open with Notepad". Make your changes and save them. Excel is a big no-no for editing them but unfortunately is the 'parent' application.Cheers,

Hi Ray,When that format dialogue came up, I had a feeling something was going to go wrong. I reinstalled it and everything works fine. Also, the original problem of FSUIPC failing when airborne is now gone as well. Thanks for your help!Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa296.png

Ray,One for jd realy I guess, but can I suggest that if RC5 uses similar data files then please do not use the .csv suffix as that's just inviting people to edit them with Excel (or OpenOffice or whatever). Many people will have these applications installed on their system, and they automatically claim the .csv suffix as a comma separated values representation of a spreadsheet. It would be much better to use another suffix, such as .dat to avoid the possibility of editing them with the wrong application.

Hi Ian,Good point and one that I'm sure JD has mulled over. We'll discuss it off board. We do reiterate in the instructions and here on the board not to use Excel to edit these files but I suppose it's second nature to double-click something and then make changes.Cheers,

Hi again Ray,I just tried to fly out of EGLL on Concorde again and that FSUIPC error occured again. The message is:Run-time error '76':RadarContact.fsuipc.rcv4codeI only tried to depart straight from the runway when I tried to see if everything worked again. But in this case, every time I start at the gate, the second I'm airborne and hear "positive climb", I hear that error 'ding' and then RC gives the above message and it has to close. So far, this is only occurring with Concorde. I don't know if it's isolated to that aircraft or if it's with any aircraft. I just flew my B744 and nothing went wrong.Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa296.png

Hi Ryan,Only with Concorde? How strange. By 'latest' I assume you mean FSUIPC v3.75 1 June 2007.I can't think of what could be causing this. Are you using the PSS Concorde? That's the one I use and haven't encountered problems of this type.Maybe JD can offer some help?

So far, only with the SSTSIM Concorde when starting at the gate for departure. Right after lift off is when the error occurs. (Could be at gear up.) If I start with everything running and on the runway ready to go, everything works. Also, this is the most recent FSUIPC module(V3.75 1 June 2007). It occured to me however that I usually start with a cold and dark cockpit. Recently I switched it so I start off with the last panel state. This is the first time I'm flying with the new settings. I'm wondering if this isn't the problem. I'll try with my usual panel start up and let you know.

Hi Ryan,If it is happening on Gear Up then check RC key assignments to see if G is assigned to anything. A bit of a long shot I know but this is a tricky one.If it is related to the panel state that would be a new one to me.

Well, it's not the panel state or the gear. I've narrowed to time frame down however. It happens either right after i'm handed off to departure or right after i contact them and they have me climb and is consistent with occurring at that time. It may have been about this time the whole time since i was usually busy and not paying too close attention but it is always after lift off no matter what. I want to try it with another aircraft to see if it is starting to happen no matter what but I'll be busy for the next several hours. Hopefully jd will chime in with a suggestion or idea by then because I'm lost.Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa296.png

path not foundwhen you reinstalled, you probably didn't follow the little detail of defining where the .flt/.wx files go.and you probably have something like autosave running, and when autosave saves a .flt/.wx, rc saves a .rcd - but i don't know where to put it.jd

It was as simple as that?! I just wasted my whole day off because I didn't look through the manual which tells you to do this! I remember reading it! Thanks jd. I was uninstalling things, running FS with different addons and obviously got nowhere. It works just fine now which is the important thing! I wonder why it did this even before I reinstalled though. Also, just out of curiosity, why was it only after I was airborne that RC acted strangely? Usually i take far longer than my autosave interval (10 min) to complete my preflight alone.Ryan GamurotLucky to live Hawai'ihttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa296.png
