A new Microsoft Flight Simulator Announced

    Chuck_Jodry-VJPL
Microsoft announced at its E3 keynote address a new instalment of  Microsoft's Flight Simulator series. The new Flight Sim, which was mentioned briefly uses Microsoft’s Azure cloud artificial intelligence. There was not much beyond that , no release date or further information on the "Ecosystem"   that said the trailer was in 4K and really looks spectacular as did the aircraft  .

They kept that quiet !!! Cool though and glad they are making a come back , I just hope they make it compatible with the payware that's been launched since they quit .... plus also making things a competitive market and the likes of p3d and xplane working harder to provide the better sim ....😁

Why do they think things have changed so that a flight sim is yet again a viable project? To anyone at the convention: Did they discuss that during the presentation?

Looks like it will be web based and possibly tied to XBox.  Reminiscent of that one they did - was it Flight?  That was a flop.

Perhaps Flight was just a glimmer...  First thoughts I had when hearing it may be cloud based are: is it in real time?  and, will all of us be out there flying together?  real space; real time; even real traffic?

Did you ever log into a FSX multiplayer game. One kid can make that not fun really fast.

Flight Sim was actually not canceled due to poor sales performance. It did quite well throughout its life. The closure of Aces was more a result of changing prioritization and restructuring at Microsoft. The also closed Ensemble Studios around the same time and focused on more casual games and the Kinect for a a while. Slowing sales of personal computers (this was the "post PC" era, it was all about tablets and phones and apps) as well as the 2009 financial crisis probably also played a part.
Lately they've made a bigger push towards gaming on both console and PC, increasing the number of studios under Xbox Studios (formerly Microsoft Studios) and promising to make their PC games available on other platforms like Steam. So it only makes sense for them to reboot one of the more successful and longer running series, IMO.

Dear God, I hope not. That would mean it'll be written on legacy code, which needs to be chucked out the highest window of the Burj Khalifa.

I suggest those that have already formed an opinion visit the new forum and read the 30 pages of discussions. You might learn something or possibly get more to speculate on.
