  • Radar Contact Now Freeware

    Chuck_Jodry-VJPL

Twenty-one years ago, two Flight Simulator enthusiasts had a common wish, to improve the ATC in FS. A programmer in Atlanta met an Air Traffic controller in Memphis and we created a company called JDTLLC. We began working on Radar Contact which became the best FS ATC program available for many years. In 2001, after 6 years of work, Version 4.3 was released. Seventeen years later, after deep soul searching, we decided to give RC away for free, and step away from the business of supporting it.

As of January 1st, 2019, we will shutdown the web site, our email, our storage providers, and our e-commerce partner.

What this means to our existing customers, and future owners:

    1. Radar Contact 4.3 will be available at no charge, by downloading it from my iCloud Drive. Here is the link.

    2. JDTLLC will no longer generate keys. We will give you the same tool we use, the Key Generator.  You can download it from here.

    3.  Radar Contact will be supported here on the AVSIM forum.

    4. Refunds have already been issued to the customers who purchased RC in the last 3 months.

    5. John and Doug will be available, as needed, at jdradarcontact@iCloud.com. Keep in mind, support will be handled here on the forum.

During these 21 years, we have encountered tens of thousands of customers, hundreds of supporters and contributors and dozens of beta testers. We will never be able to adequately express our deepest gratitude and thankfulness to each and every one of you.

All we can do is say, "Thank You".

Was the issue of slow, stuttering voices ever solved?  That's the one thing that kept me away from the product.

    Dear John and Doug,

Thank you for the countless hours of pleasure you have provided through the successive iterations of your program. Whereas I can't help feeling frustrated by knowing RC5 will never be, I think I understand why, and I respect that.

I truly hope you will continue finding happiness in what you do and success in your future endeavours.

It’s a classy move to make this freeware rather than just not making it available any longer, much appreciated.   I haven’t tried using this with P3Dv4 but I think it’s time to do so.

Yes, but shame you couldn't continue to develop it.

Great program though.... best out there.

Did you really have tens of thousands of customers.... at 40 bucks a pop ?

    Wow, I need a new job !

Thank you for the service, support and dedication!

It is really an excellent piece of software. It is - in my opinion - still unbeatable as an ATC addon...

    Dear John and Doug,

Thank you so much for all the excellent work you did for the flightsim community !!

    Respect !

It is a pity that it never reached a version 5.0. I find it still the best ATC programm ever and still using it in Prepar3Dv4.4.

    Kindly regards,

    Jacob.

I never got round to using any ATC replacement program, could not decide which one to go for so I am very grateful to get the chance to try now. Thank you very much for making this great program available as freeware instead of just taking it off the market!

This is a STAND UP way to exit a commercial addon venture! You even took the additional, and not required, step of refunding payments for the last 3 months! I don't think I remember ever hearing of some developer doing that!!!!!

Much respect to the devs for a solid product and an honorable exit. I, for one, am very impressed.

Additionally, THANK YOU for making this product freeware and making sure everyone has a key, especially those that have been long-standing customers.

You should be proud of the way you carried yourselves here.

I would also like to say Thank you so very much from the depth of my heart for countless hours of joy and satisfaction using RC4. It has contributed immensly to my simming experience. And when I sometimes got a real spanking for making mistakes or disobeying the ATC it was well deserved and made me a better pilot.

I wish you a wonderful life as retired!

    Best wishes

What a wonderful gift to the simmers community. Freeware does not mean, however, that the program is open source, correct? If this were the case, there could be some developers who collect the inheritance to be able to update it to version 5 maybe.

However it remains the best ATC addon in the history of FS.
