    Highlights

This was a fantastic DVD. Starting off at Dusseldorf we take the 737-800 to Boa Vista and Cape Verde. Highlights of this first trip include very scenic departures and approaches and lots of in-flight details from the captain. Of particular interest was the night landing at Dusseldorf with rain and low visibility which gave you a bird’s eye view of how ILS approaches are done. Following this flight we have a company presentation that provides a lot of interesting background information.

The next trip takes us from Cologne Germany to Venice which was by far one of my favorite portions of the flight which featured a CATIII landing at Venice that was quite impressive. Other flights featured in this DVD take us from Cologne to Calvi France and the famous Innsbruck airport.

The Innsbruck approach and takeoff was breathtaking to say the least and I think that most of you 737 fans out there will enjoy this very much. Other aspects of this DVD that are worth mentioning are the various camera views and scenic approaches (especially to Boa Vista and Calvi).

For those of you who speak German, you will be pleased to know that there is also a presentation of these flights in German. Overall, this was a great DVD and one I can definitely recommend to you 737NG lovers.

    AIR LUXOR

Our next DVD features Air Luxor.

    Highlights

The company President starts off this DVD with a presentation about Air Luxor discussing its fleet and history. The next segment features a flight from Lisbon to Funchal, Porto and Paris Orly onboard the A320. Highlights of this flight include a walkaround of the aircraft, cockpit preparation, cockpit presentation and a stunning (as always) approach into the famous Funchal airport.

The third segment features a very rare aircraft but one that many are familiar with. The L1011 takes us from Lisbon to Funchal and then back to Lisbon. Some of the highlights were the scenic early morning departure, the Flight Engineer presentation and walkaround of the aircraft while on the ground at Funchal. The return flight featured a departure at night and a view of the cabin service onboard the L1011.

The A319 featured in the following flight takes you to Paris Orly. Highlights were the discussion by the Captain on the A319 and a very brief cockpit presentation while in-flight. The final flight features the A330 (which by the way has its own DVD).

The A330 takes us from Paris to Funchal featuring many highlights. Some that stood out were the cabin service, First Officer briefing on how the Funchal approach is flown and clips of the A330 departing Funchal (after arrival) from the ramp.

So this leaves the question, is it worth buying? Well, while this DVD is older it was very entertaining and especially so if you enjoy watching Airbus aircraft or the good old L1011 in action. There were some parts where I found it difficult to hear the pilot speaking but it was nonetheless a pleasure to look at. Why not check it out yourself?

    SILKWAY AIRLINES

    T_Silkway.jpg

Our final DVD features Silkway Airlines and the mysterious IL-76TD. Why do I say it’s mysterious? Well you hardly can find information or many pilots who fly these aircrafts. In addition, its odd styling makes them quite intriguing. Let’s have a look at the highlights

    Highlights

The destinations featured in this DVD were Kandahar, Kabul and Hahn, Germany. The first flight takes us from Baku to Kandahar, while the second and third flights takes you to Kabul and then on to Hahn. While this DVD didn’t feature many presentations of discussion on the part of the flight crew, there were a few aspects that I thought were interesting.

I particularly enjoyed the amazing scenic views from both the cockpit and the nose window during both the flights and on takeoff and landing. I also enjoyed the Flight Engineer’s presentation as well as the company presentation and brief walkaround of the aircraft. Other highlights included various clips of the airport activity at Kabul that showed both the takeoff and loading and offloading of other IL-76s and Antonov aircraft.

While this DVD is a bit different from the typical presentations we’ve seen from Just Planes, I thought it was entertaining since it gives you a very rare opportunity to see firsthand the operations of the IL-76 and what it takes to fly this beast of an airplane. Well done.

    Summary/Closing Remarks

Once again, these DVDs were an absolute pleasure to watch and I think anyone who loves aviation will enjoy them. At a cost of $25-30 each they are a bargain.

These are perfect for days when you what to see or do something aviation related but also want to enjoy the comforts of home. Just Planes has really stepped up their editing and production of their DVDs and I am sure we will continue to see more innovations in their future products.
