Marlon Carter takes a look at 3 DVDs from Just Planes covering VG Airlines, Skymaster Airlines and TAROM as you join the flight crews piloting aircraft including the A318, B707 and A330 to destinations like KLAX, Brasilia, Frankfurt and Paris.

Highlights

The VG Airline DVD is indeed a very special DVD. While it is one of the shortest DVDs, its content is by far very unique and exciting.

The first flight featured in this DVD was the 11+ hour flight from Brussels to LAX. Some of the highlights I thought many of you would enjoy are the walk around inspection of the aircraft, oceanic clearance procedures, meal service and the scenic views from the cockpit on departure and especially on arrival at LAX.

It’s not very often you get to see approaches into major US airports and thankful it doesn’t stop there. The next flight segment featured a very interesting short trip from JFK to Boston. There are very few Just Planes DVDs that feature flights from and to a US airport so this segment was also very special. I especially enjoyed the clips of other aircraft as they departed JFK at dusk and the amazing views from the cockpit of our A330 as it departed into the darkening skies over New York.

The final flight takes us from Boston back to Brussels for an uneventful landing and an end to a great journey. I think most of you will really enjoy this DVD and especially so if you are a fan of the A330 or any Airbus aircraft. Don’t be fooled by the short duration of the DVD (90 mins) because I can promise you it will be 90 minutes of your life well spent viewing this great DVD.

Highlights

Who would have thought that beyond the year 2000 we would be seeing 707s still flying the friendly skies? Skymaster Airlines has been operating a fleet of 707s on their cargo operations and Just Planes has again secured a unique privilege in capturing this perhaps never to be repeated operation on film.

We join the flight crew in this DVD on cargo flights to destinations such as Brasilia, Teresina, Sao Luiz, Campinas and Manaus on board the 707-300. Some of the highlights I enjoyed in this DVD were the stunning views from the cockpit on takeoff and landing, loading and offloading of the aircraft and the clear view of the pilots as they carry out their procedures.

This is a very unique DVD that features an aircraft few of us may ever have the opportunity to see again. I would definitely recommend that you add this to your collection.

TAROM

Highlights

I had never heard of TAROM until seeing this DVD and I have to say I was very impressed with this operation. This DVD starts off with a very interesting aircraft. We hop onboard for the first time with Just Planes following the A318 on flights to Cluj, Frankfurt and Paris.

While there weren’t a lot of discussions during the flight from the pilots, there was a very interesting cockpit presentation on our flight to Paris and a walk around presentation that I am sure many of you will enjoy.

The second segment takes us onboard the ATR-72 to Thessaloniki which is then followed by flights to Amsterdam and Madrid onboard the 737-700 and 800 series. This final segment was very interesting since it featured a more in-depth crew briefing before the flight along with a walk around presentation and a discussion with the captain on his aviation career.

Overall this was an enjoyable DVD to look at and one that I may look at from time to time in the future.

Summary/Closing Remarks

Once again, these DVDs were an absolute pleasure to watch and I think anyone who loves aviation will enjoy them. At a cost of $25-30 each they are a bargain. These are perfect for days when you what to see or do something aviation related but also want to enjoy the comforts of home. Just Planes has really stepped up their editing and production of their DVDs and I am sure we will continue to see more innovations in their future products.
