Why would EF effect frame rates at all?

    Environment Force Discussion Thread

I used time-lapse to show the light on the clouds. But you get this effect if you look around the scene and can see where the sunlight is coming from with how the clouds are lit. So in a way, this does not show the scene but a snapshot of what happens if you look around it. Sun behind my aircraft. Sun behind the clouds Sun just above the clouds. But after trying HDR ON in P3D and OFF for the FSL it is staying OFF.
  4. I don't see what you base your comment on. I've seen no such degradation from having many thousands of dollars of add-ons installed over time I built my Flight Sim PC more than 5 years ago. I run P3D on bare bones Win7 x64 across 3 dedicated 1TB SSD drives with almost no other software loaded. Hardware is Asus Z97 Deluxe, i7-4790K OC'd to 4.67Ghz on all cores, 32GB DDR3-2333 ram, GTX-1080ti SC2 11GB (also mildly OC'd), and 6 "Joystick" input devices. I have all ORBX products except TE GB South loaded at once, about 20 USA states of MegaSceneryEarth, plus a ton of other add-ons like Ultimate Traffic Live, ASP4/ASCA, RXP GNS & GTN, ChasePlane/TrackIR, PrecipFX, FSUIPC, Loads of aircraft including a few A2A Accu-Sim, Most PMDG, Flight1, many Milviz, Majestic Dash8 Q400 Pro, and others, FS2Crew for all PMDG and MJD8Q400, Accu-Feel, Around 100 non-ORBX airports (half of them freeware), All Drzewiecki Design regions/products, GSX Ground Services X Level 2 (which is word not allowed BTW), FS Global Ultimate - Next Generation mesh, WX Advantage Radar, Navigraph updates & fsAerodata, and probably a few other I forget. All of this is loaded at once and I often run Little NavMap on another monitor and Foobar2000 simultaneously playing music on the same 7.2.2 home theater system I run p3D on. That's about as much as you can currently put on one system and it's very flyable. I run with most sliders to maximum in most regions. I cut back autogen to half in others. I run P3D on a single 4K monitor and get 18-65fps depending. This is about the same performance I got with very few add-ons. P3Dv4 runs great if you are running all legit software. I rarely have crashes. I would never risk any hackware even just to try a product, lest it wrecks the enormous amount of work it took to put all this together. I just added a bunch (about 30) of Return to Misty Moorings (RTMM) sceneries as well as Tongass Fjords X a couple days ago. Performance is still excellent. I firmly believe I could load another full suite of ORBX and still maintain the same performance. Gone are the days of 32bit OOM issues. P3D intelligently loads only relevant scenery for the region you are currently flying. You can grow this platform to an enormous scale. I only expect that P3D 5.0 will be even better. The way P3D is designed I don't think it has any upper limit of how much scenery it can manage. What impact performance is only the local scenery where you are currently flying and add-ons like weather, traffic,, and some higher end aircraft. Most addons have little to no impact that I could ever see. Except for a few poorly made overdone airports on the market that can really slam FPS. Autogen can be a killer too if mixed with very complex scenery, but only while you are flying in a complex scenery area. I never reach my memory limits on my MB or on my GPU. I rarely see my CPU or GPU max out either. The main factor for running P3D smoothly today is a decent GPU and getting your CPU cores to the maximum speed you can. This is why a 5+ year old 4-core i7-4790K overclocked to 4.67Ghz on all cores is pretty much as good as the latest CPUs running at 5Ghz or so. And the 1080ti is still the best card for P3D v4.5. I found almost no difference in FPS running in 4K vs 1080p. In 4k there is also little to no need for anti-aliasing, thus reducing GPU workload. Try as I might, I can find no justification to build a newer top of the line PC. ORBX can keep right on designing new P3D sceneries, and as long as I am still alive I will keep buying them. BTW, did you ever wonder why ORBX removed the ability from FTX Central to load only limited regions at once? Because it doesn't matter anymore. Keep flying and enjoy. There is no wall coming that will limit your fun. I continue to be blown away by the size of this community, which is what makes it possible to have such a great platform and great add-ons. When I think back to when I flew MSFS 1.0 I find it very difficult to complain about anything in the current flight sim world. I never imagined we would have it so good.
  5. Let me stop you right there. There are a lot of ORBX developers inside the LM beta testing team (they have one of the largest amount of members), it is their responsibility to test their products and provide feedback to LM engineers. Interesting enough I don't see any of them making any reference to problems with TE GB, TE Netherlands, Germany regions, etc. Via the LM beta forums. It was Rob Ainscough (who doesn't work for ORBX or LM) who performed intense testing using these regions and reported back hard evidence and data, which was useful to produce the Hotfix you and many others are enjoying. But quite frankly, it is not the responsibility of Rob A., Me or anyone else in the beta team to ensure ORBX products are working correctly with any version of P3D. That is why ORBX belongs to the beta team, to do their own bloody tests, and it is a shame other members of the beta team had to step in to provide feedback on their behalf for their own products. Regards, Simbol

    30% GPU and 30%CPU ?

Prepar3d 4.5 is running ok on my system, most settings are high or even max, and I get around 30fps at even busy airports. If I lower any details, frame rate goes up accordingly. But still, I can't help wondering, why both my CPU and my GPU only use around 30% of their maximum. I have an Asus Z87K motherboard, i7-4770K cpu, EVGA RTX2070 XC gpu, and 24GB 2133speed ram. Could it be that the ram is too slow or the cpu throttling back due to temperature - (it does often go into the 80s)? I don't want to spend hours agonizing over it as it runs ok, but just wondered if anyone can suggest any other reason.
  7. Design is completely different. Matches that of the Oculus Go.

  9. Like I already said; this is really great! Just one question: is there maybe also a way/possibility to show the European low and high ifr charts? Thanks a lot for all your efforts!
  10. Any chance my previous-gen Oculus Rift lenses will work in the Rift S? Or is the design too different?

    Drzewiecki releases Chicago Airports X

i'll wait till i hear how it also affects ATC options ........ one could conjure up an airac update which would reference the "pseudo" ILS's. or just close appropriate runways.
  12. The only reason that performance in TrueEarth GB South suffers is because of those 3DM files. If the autogen system in P3D was updated to provide developers with more flexible options, then ORBx could have used autogen exclusively (apart from the POI landmarks), and we would not have these issues. It's those 3D custom buildings that kill performance on anything other than Skynet based PCs. Have Lockheed Martin been informed that updating the autogen system in P3D is urgently needed?

    Ethiopia crash

No Kevin, apologies I wasn't clear, I was talking about 'my' old man, (my father) not some guy on pprune. He flew many 737 variants for nearly 30 years. In no way does he or I laud this! The opposite, it is a direct criticism of Boeing's grandfathering policy that contributed to this crash. It allows pilots to fly any variant (back then with no training at all) with as little as a 1 hour session and zero sim time. On one flight he had to ask the captain where buttons were, can you imagine! He complained to management (at significant risk to his career progression) but nothing was done as this was normal and 'legal'. At least today Boeing require the 1 hour type conversion session. From now on I guess sim time will be required to practice key differences, such as MCAS malfunctions and new memory items. So no, I don't think this is why I (and many pilots like my father) disagree with you. I don't want to argue anymore, believe it or not I respect your opinion (especially as a current pilot on the brilliant E170, which by the way Boeing tried hard to kill off!). I really do see where you are coming from and you make valid points but I think they are massively outweighed. Let's agree to disagree (very strongly 🙂)! What we can agree on is that lessons will be learned on certification, training and grandfathering of 50 year old designs. I will always feel though that both crashes could have been avoided.
  14. Another great video showcase from The Flight Sim Deck
  15. Well that's just silly and false.
  16. I think and many say its a fact that orbx has reached the limit for P3D along time ago.. Adding regions and more to base,,vector and openlc results in a slide show stutter mess. Now they have moved on to xplane, it wont be long untill that is saturated as well lol. There is no pc in the world that can run all orbx products together combined with addon airports

    X-ROTORS AW139

Hi Guys, I have some troubles assigning all the functions of the cyclic and collective to my Joystick. I see all the functions under the custom list of X-Rotors but I don't know which one is which function because of their abbreviation. And are there any more instructions on the Hove autopilot available? Can't seem to transition from hover to flight and visa versa.

P3Dv4.5 Airport Data Missing or Old

I really don't understand why the don't update this. Did a flight into Shanghai recently and in reality there are 4 runways. In sim there were 2! Having to check the in sim map for the ils freqs to make sure they are the same as my charts is annoying as well.
  19. I see. That is not a brilliant move by ORBX. The facility for choosing how much detail your rig can deal with is built in to P3D. It's a shame ORBX chose not to use it or at least come up with a reasonable facsimile of their own. All or nothing is not very accommodating. Cheers, Jim
  20. You did not read the post correctly. TE GB uses many custom objects, like city blocks, that only can be added or removed by the SC slider. And it was either none or all of them ... The OP was correct in pointing out that those objects could not be controlled by the AG sliders..

    Updated or not?

Hi Daniel yes, we’ve added an updated AFD file for Corfu which fixes a few things and the GSX config files now have the correct path. The updated file is in the download area of the new site.

    MA RealTurb North America

Interested if the turbulence is always the same around mountainous areas or if it takes the strength/shear of aloft winds interacting with terrain into account. What about mountain wave in the upper flight levels east of the Rockies when the jetstream is strong? Instant buy if this is simulated.

    Ethiopia crash

Dellypilot, my sympathies lie with the passengers. They count on us two guys up front to do what we were trained to do. If those two did their abnormals drill, they would probably all be alive. Or at least they would not be having people saying they didn’t follow procedures afterwards. What’s scary is that I haven’t seen you mention the word ‘passengers’ once in any of your posts. Those were the first people I thought about. Not the pilots and trying to make rationalizations about why the pilots didn’t do this or that. I thought what a shame that they never pulled out their training, those poor passengers could all still be alive. Pilots owe it to their passengers to remember their training, use their qrhs, exercise some crm, and stay calm, especially when the plane is trying to kill them. If that is not a time to remember your training, when is it ever? You’ve been and continue insinuating that I am a dangerous pilot because I am saying that this accident should be a reminder that we need to remember our abnormals drill when we are faced with an emergency. While at the same time you are lauding somebody on pprune for flying passengers around in different versions of a plane without any proper training. No wonder we disagree......
  24. Good Morning. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Joe Zerilli, and I am the Chief Pilot and lead technical adviser at Flysimware Simulation Software. I have almost two decades of flight simulation experience on both the user and development side, and I'm also a professional pilot. One of my responsibilities at FSW is the oversight and management of our in-house, pre-release beta team. I am currently restructuring the organization of our team, and I am looking to bring a few new testers on board. You all know and enjoy our products for their fidelity to their real world counterparts, and now is you chance to be a part of the team that makes it all possible. Lets get the basic requirements out of the way, then we'll move on to the core requirements. -18 Years of Age or Older -Stable installation of FSX/P3D -Ability to Communicate using Discord -Availability between 5pm-3am PST Now that we've covered the basics, here's what I'm looking for: First and foremost, I'm looking for people who are willing to commit. If your idea of testing is getting a copy of the pre-release candidate, flying it around a bunch, and barely having any contact with the developer, this position is not for you. Our core development team is in "the office" (our discord server) just about every evening, working together. While we certainly don't expect this of our testers, we want folks who have an interest in being an active participant and member of the team. We'd like you to spend some time with us when you can. We exchange some great info, work hard, and have a few good laughs along the way. Second, I'm after experience. Many of you have decades of flight simulation experience, but have never set foot in a real cockpit. We'd love to chat with you. I'll be the first one to tell you that there are significant differences between real life and the sim, and you're extensive experience in the latter is exceptionally valuable. On the flip side, maybe you have a significant amount of real world experience, but you're new to the FS world. That's okay too! People like you help us make the gap between real life and simulation disappear. Ideally, a healthy balance of both real world aviation and simulation experience is what we're after. This is not to suggest, however, that we don't value a hefty quantity of either one. Finally, we're looking for team players. Our ability to work together ultimately determines our success. If being a part of the team is something you may be interested in, please private message this account with an introduction to yourself, and a summary of your aviation and/or simulation background. Each one of our candidates will be required to participate in a Discord interview which will give us an opportunity to get to know you, and see if we're a good fit for each other. I'm looking forward to speaking with all of you!

Good to know Aloha Air Cargo continues to fly after parent Aloha Airlines ceased operations. Nice pictures!
  26. Thanks, Mark. It always feels good to come across a place (or plane) around here, that one has had some association with (in RL) in the past. And, about VFR Real 3D photo scenery U.K., I recall you had posted a few pictures here. That’s good stuff!
