  1. Past hour
  2. I spent the better part of today battling heroically with a hitherto unprecedented MSFS error message: This sent me on an arduous ordeal only surpassed by the best Shakespearean tragedies. After a bucketload of blood, sweat and tears, jumping through increasingly ridiculous hoops, I was finally able to “resolve” the issue. There’s been quite a few threads on similar topics lately describing various MSFS oddities and idiosyncrasies. But as I didn’t find any recent threads with the same incessant error message, I decided to start a new one. How I eventually “solved” it: I finally caved in and went for a complete MSFS reinstall after I felt that I had exhausted all other options... MSFS idiosyncrasies and increasingly incomprehensible error messages during the ordeal: I first installed the recommended "missing packages" (about 3GB). When MSFS restarted it was still not happy about the missing packages (that I apparently I just installed): It then entered a vicous cycle of restart, same message, download "missing packages", restart etc... I eventually caved in and did a complete reinstall. I was hoping to avoid installing everything, so I made a backup copy of the Official folder before uninstalling. As I still got the "missing packages" error message, I could not see any other solution than downloading everything from scratch... Hopefully I'll be able to copy the World Updates from the Official folder backup to avoid downloading them again. Highly recommended: When a large update (or a complete reinstall) is needed, I highly recommend using a VPN and trying out different servers. Doing this I've been able to increase download speeds from a puny 3Mbps to over 300Mbps. Canadian servers have worked best so far (for some reason, I live in Europe). Selecting a custom folder during MSFS installation Before reinstalling MSFS I tried this (in vain): Signing out then in to MS Store and the Xbox app Leaving SU15 beta Several system restarts Choosing MSFS repair then reset in Windows 11 settings => Apps => Installed apps I tried various Windows repair options (PowerShell as admin): dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth sfc /scannow dism /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstore dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup chkdsk /f chkdsk /r I reinstalled gaming services (PowerShell as admin): get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN When everything works, MSFS is glorious. But word not allowed like this is driving me crazy 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
  3. For a couple of versions AIG has the option to "filter" traffic by your departure and arrival airport. What that means is that any other aircraft on the gorund (not in the air, only on the ground) on other nearby airports will be disabled. This massively improves FPS in areas that have many big airports close together (New York, Miami, Los Angeles, London come to mind). E.g. when you depart from KJFK and filter traffic, all ground aircraft at KEWR, KLGA, KTEB and whatever is close enough will be killed. Great feature: You'll still have a realistically full (if you set 100%) airport, but with much less overall AI traffic (and therefore much better FPS).
  4. I did a short test, with "DSR 2.25 and DLSS 3.6 set your resolution, to the highest it will go in the sim and set DLSS to Performance, Direct X 11, and max everything out in the sim" and also 3080 TI I get on my side around 40fps but not 60fps+
  5. Yes, predominantly SIDs. But also during cruise and arrival. If you see that again make sure to send the logs to Dave. He'll fix that in no time.
  6. ah yes. when all else fails - read the manual. thank you both. for me a 'Load Scenery Library ... ' did the trick. regards joe
  7. Both. FSLTL is more streamlined/easier and better performance and I use it when Im flying in my own timezone/weather etc. AIG is amazing because it's offline, has a bajillion liveries and the performance is fine when you uncheck ground vehicles and keep the traffic within 30ish %. FSLTL will also use AIG liveries. Also....AIG is vastly different from a few years ago. A lot easier to install now.
  8. just plug your system into the TV via HDMI and start the sim. Set your refresh rate to 23hz in NCP. The TV will likely turn on the Judder reduction (frame interpolation) itself or you'll have to do it manually. If not just pick up the TV remote control, Press setting and the on screen display will appear. Highlight expert setting and scroll down to Auto Motion Plus setting and under that menu set Judder Reduction to 10. That it. Press the enter button when the Judder reduction menu is on screen and the menus closes and shows the slider at the bottom of the screen. Using the remote you can slide it back for 0 to 10 and you should be able to see a huge difference. There is no frame counter. you just have to trust your eyes. Once the Judder reduction is on you can change the refresh rate to 29hz for 58fps on screen. I'm not sure it works with display port. I seem to remember having trouble with that so use HDMI.
  9. EGLC is a blast in this plane. Now with AutoFPS your TLOD won't tank your system like it would do to mine haha.
  10. I actually have it unchecked and and it keeps dropping it to high immediately. As soon as I click off expert settings. FPS stays in the green zone. I want it Ultra but it immediately changes to high. Again, FPS stays the same.
  11. Yes, latest beta version. Interesting the direct to function works perfectly for you, have you used them from a SID? Wonder if that could be the issue. I'm 20 to 30 flights a month, all IFR on p2atc - although I couldn't say how many of those flights had vectors, at least one (at most two) "failed" by turning me to intercept far too late. G
  12. I set that 10,000 points to , say , 1,000 and it reverts to 10,000 every time
  13. My biggest issue with FG, and the reason I don't use it, is that with my non Gysnc TVs you can't prevent tearing as VSYNC doesn't work. That, and the fact that FG only works on the main MSFS window and not access multi monitors means the main screen gets a nice FPS bump from FG but the side monitors don't. Fingers crossed 2024 fixes some of these issues.
  14. MARCH 28TH, 2024 – DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Posted by: Microsoft Flight Simulator Team This week’s Screenshot Challenge winner is Forum user Acuario9383! If you’re interested in participating in our weekly Screenshot Challenges, check out the details in the Community section below! In case you missed it, we recently announced that the full release of Sim Update 15 (SU_15) will be slightly delayed from its earlier targeted release date of March 26. It’s important that we take the time to get it right, and after careful consideration, the team concluded that SU_15 isn’t quite ready yet. We’re now targeting a release for some time in April (exact date TBD). In other SU_15 news, we released a new pre-release test build to volunteer community beta testers earlier today. You can read the release notes for this build on our forums here. We want to once again thank everyone who has opted in to the SU_15 public test for your timely and detailed feedback and bug reports. On the lighter side, there’s an ongoing discussion on our forums where players are sharing their memories of their first flight simulator, either from the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise or from another developer. Our Community Manager SeedyL responded thusly: When I was a kid in the 1980s, my family had a Commodore VIC-20 and C64 with a variety of really primitive flight simulators. I was super young at the time and didn’t really know what I was doing in any of them. The first memories I have of actually using a flight sim and feeling like it was a somewhat rough approximation of real flight came when I was a teenager in the 90s. By then, my family had swapped our C64 for an Intel 486-based Compaq Presario desktop running MS-DOS 6.0 and Windows 3.1. I had several popular flight sims from the era (both civilian and military) including: Microsoft Flight Simulator 5.0 Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat Falcon 3.0 Red Baron Aces Over Europe Aces of the Pacific Flight Unlimited Sierra Pro Pilot Fly! We also asked several other members of the team to share their earliest memories of participating in the flight simulation hobby. Here are their responses: Khoi, Quality Engineer: My first sim was Microsoft Flight Simulator 4 on a 386. Or at least that’s the one I remember. It could have also been been Flight Simulator 1 (or 2). I have a fuzzy memory of playing it, but for sure Flight Simulator 4. Tyler, Pilot Tester: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 on a Dell laptop my dad gave me. I used to bring an E6B and take my laptop on roadtrips and try to “fly” our route while we drove it! Scott, Customer Support Agent: I dabbled in FSX on PC, but I learned how to fly (sorta) in WW2 Online, a 24-year old MMO. My OG flying game was “Blue Max” for the Commodore 64. Many, many others in the team have their own stories and backgrounds with flight simulators and we’ve been enjoying reading everyone’s responses. If you have anything share, check out the discussion and post your own story! – MSFS Team DEVELOPMENT UPDATE FEEDBACK SNAPSHOT Click here for the web-friendly version of the Feedback Snapshot. Picking up from where we left off last time, we depart from Paris Le Bourget (LFPB) and head on a generally southwesterly heading towards the Franco-Spanish border. En route, we’ll visit the home city of Asobo Studio, Bordeaux! Since the microstate of Andorra does not have any airports of its own, our final full stop landing will be at Andorra–La Seu d’Urgell Airport, an airport that is technically in Spain but serves Andorra, the next UN member nation we will visit as part of our World Tour! Please note the possible start time change depending on your location: with most of North America recently switching to Daylight Saving Time, the start time for this event is now 1800 UTC, not 1900 UTC as it was previously. Event details are available here. All are welcome to participate! TUBELINER TUESDAY With the brand new Airbus A320neo v2 expected to release alongside Sim Update 15, we will be operating a real world EasyJet flight between Toulouse, France and Geneva, Switzerland. Toulouse is famous for being the home of Airbus, so we’ll have plenty of brand new aircraft to spot on our departure! Event details are available here. We will be flying on the VATSIM Multiplayer Network for all who want to fly along! COMMUNITY VIDEO For this week’s Community Video we join Captain Carlos for a trip around the Caribbean in the Expert Series ATR72-600. Departing Cayo Largo, avoiding stormy weather through cruise, before arriving at North Eleuthera, this Sliver Airways flight shows off the Caribbean in all its beauty. We really enjoyed some of the great views Captain Carlos chose to include in this video, with a combination of a multitude of different points of view. We look forward to seeing more in the future! 15. Hey careful there! I’ll send Vader after you once we finish watching Friends with benefits. Yeah, who would’ve thought so, but Vader really likes rom-coms. I hate them, but I always reply with “as you wish my Lord” no matter how ludicrous his demands are…
  16. Today
  17. Keep an open mind for FBW A320nx. I was all Boeing for 25y and never Airbus myself until I was nudged to give it a try and I love it. It's a very well developed plane, superior documentation on every aspect, super nice electronic flight tablet and performs about the same as PMDG 73x. And bonus: it's free, and its installer is wonderful. It also installs FSLTL, the freeware air traffic addon I can also heartily recommend. For smaller jets I really like Aerosoft's CRJ700 as well and it's very easy on performance. Oh, and of course you can fly it with a yoke as desired.
  18. I'm not going to discuss this in detail, but I can assure you that 70 fps in very, very dense environment feel very, very smooth on my part. Did I mention the complete lack of microstutters?
  19. They have credit cards on the Executor? Can't you just threaten them with the wrath of Lord Vader and they'll give you the 146 for free?
  20. Voted to wait for traffic injection. I never understood what the point of ATC without it actually controlling traffic. Like without traffic, why bother with arrivals or departures? Why bother with airways for that matter, might as well go in a direct line between airports. Get your takeoff clearance right at the gate, save everyone the hassle. FSHud is probably the only one doing it right, as janky and robotic as it is at the moment. And I've tried a lot of them - pilot2atc, sayintentions, ProATC. Would be nice to have an actual competitor to that.
  21. Great screenies, P_7878. Interesting to know that there is also a Lake Geneva in the US 😉
