  1. Past hour
  2. I can appreciate that, but why not ask these questions in the thread which most people follow?
  3. I was wondering about this, thanks for mentioning it. I was absolutely astonished that this was missing from MSFS when it LAUNCHED, to say nothing of now, years down the road. This alone makes AS worth it for me. With no RVR option, just how low can you set the vis? For instance, can you set .10sm instead of 600rvr, and get about the same thing?
  4. Bob - have you tried the audio functions? With a flightplan loaded, tune your comm radio to either 122.0, 122.05 or 122.02 to get overall route briefing, departure and destination weather as you fly. I always use 122.02 when flying instrument approaches. Love it!
  5. Today, as I opened my Xbox, I caught this Southwest Germany (City) Update glaring me on the face (first item on "FREE" list), with a "NEW" (yellow) sticker on it. Been always interested in Germany scenery (since the Orbx days of Germany South and North, that comes to mind readily), I quickly installed it and gave it a trial... Making use of 2 Cities specifically mentioned in this Update, I've set up a flight, here, from the eastern side of the "Black Forest" of Southwest Germany (someone here is less than 2 hours' drive away from it...🙂...), from Stuttgart (EDDS), over and across the fascinating "Black Forest" region (named so, because of the dark-green tress, but there are mountains too, see shot #s 5-8), into the wide valley of Rhine River (see shot #s 9-11), to the city of Strasbourg (LFST) in France just across the German-French border. Past this valley, on its western side, is the magnificent Vosges range of mountains that called me...🙂.... So, before finally landing in Strasbourg, I could not resist meandering a bit into the thick of the Vosges Mountains, which paid good dividends. These mountains seemed very pretty (see shot #s 12-17), especially because I am fond of such (low-level) mountains of <5,000 ft elevation. These mountains with the narrow (green) valleys and hamlets within, reminded me a bit of the Sion Valley of Switzerland (with the Rhone River there), only that, here, these mountains are not as tall...but certainly no less picturesque. See my Garmin MFD image (shot #3) to notice position of EDDS (Stuttgart) with respect to the 2 Yellow/Brown (color) patches indicative of Black Forest at the bottom of MAP, and the Vosges range at the top, separated by the green colored Rhine River valley, in which you may also spot the (thin) blue ribbon of the (famed) river flowing along the valley, serving as the border between the two countries (I've also included a close external image of Rhine river, below, see shot #10). Here is a river, that flows northward, not uncommon, but I always find peculiar. It would flow north out of Germany eventually into Netherlands, and then westward into the North Sea. Quick impression: Beautiful scenery all around and unique terrain features (so, it must be convincingly likewise in RW too). However, in my (Xbox) SIM, I constantly found the (delayed) rendering of the distant mountains a bit disconcerting. Of course, as I approached near, the mountains got rendered reasonably well...So, I'm not sure, if it's due to the nature of scenery, server issue, or just something inherent in my Xbox system... Anyway, it was good fun exploring this region (which I don't recall having done ever before in the SIM). Please find 20 images from my flight today. Thanks for viewing. Hope you enjoy.
  6. Caused by not reading the manual, and adjusting settings. aka Pilot error.
  7. Just bought the Tornado, is there a manual for the plane? I can not find one in the folder. JeffG
  8. @Zimmerbz I suggest you ignore all those posts with zero informative value, though they seem to pile up... To your point: It might be a bit different than what you might be familiar with in P3D. The "cloudart" itself is exactly the same as the default. There are no additional textures like REX or HiFI used to offer in P3D. The wind and turbulence are smoother and more realistic than the overly reactive and very exaggerated default. That's a significant improvement. The overall depiction is also somewhat different in comparison with the default. My impression that the "blanket of clouds" so to speak, tends to be more broken with AS while the default has a tendency toward a more overcast representation. I should put an Asterix for that last observation as its based on a limited number of flights I attempted with the program. It's a very initial impression in that regard.
  9. I just did a short testflight from lfsb to lsza, everything worked perfect and it was a breeze to handfly. Flew a ils approach and circled manually to land. McDan out
  10. Ray, this must be very local to your machine. We have not seen any reports like this, and there are thousands of installations of this app. As Ian says, it should be using negligible resources, and we cannot reproduce your report on any of our testing systems. I suggest reinstalling the FMS Data Manager application. Sure, you can safely also disable notifications, or not start it on Windows startup at all, but then you need to remember to update when needed. Stephen Navigraph
  11. When you start looking around this program there are so many features that haven't even been discussed yet. I just looked at the Briefing Section, which gives a total briefing of you flight plan. This is just a screen shot of a portion of the flight briefing.
  12. Thanks a lot, Bob, that answers the question I, too, had Hans
  13. Thanks. I appreciate you answering my questions!
  14. Am I the only one who's wondering why you're not flying the Ornithopter on "Dune"? 😂 Sorry, I'll see myself out... 😉
  15. How can one do his/her homework without being in the possession of the product's manual, yet? Don't move away from these questions, please, rather reply to them or don't be a wise acre and patronize the OP
  16. I am using Live Weather Preset, which tracks Live Weather in MSFS, in fact when you select that, and you look at Live Weather in MSFS, it is automatically turned off and clear skies are selected. So all the weather generation is done with AS. It looks great. The Clouds look much better in AS, in fact I just finished a flight and saw some Cirrus Clouds, which you never see in MSFS. It's been years since I used FS in P3D, but this looks just as good to me, if not better.. Well worth the $25, won't be flying without it on from now on.
  17. The specific questions simply show that you didn't do your homework and now expect us to do it for you. There is nothing in the actual user experience that isn't answered by Hifi themselves, because they knew people would want to know what they were getting. You obviously read nothing of that.
  18. Really outstanding series, Bernd! You've captured the rural atmosphere perfectly...right down to the wash hanging out on the line in your final shot. And the in-flight shots are just beautiful. That Susi livery really dresses up the Porter nicely.
  19. With all due respect, I would rather hear it from the users of the application rather than the ones that created it. Everything looks fine and dandy on their site but in reality that isn't always the case.
  20. Not to mention that all these questions are answered in depth on the website of HifiSim. But why bother reading through a product description when you can expect others to do it for you and give a summary?🙄
  21. Just finished my first flight on A Pilots Life using ASFS, from KVPS to KDFW. Everything worked perfectly, map showed the Simbrief flight plan, with the weather along the way, clouds looked great and realistic, descended through overcast into KDFW, broke out as approached airport around 3200 agl. Best $25 I have spent in a long time.
  22. There are a few threads on Active Sky FS in general, the OP just wants a reply to three answers to three direct questions which are difficult to find in the avalanche of messages in the by you mentioned threads. Aamof, I would like to know the answers to the OP's questions, too, without having to struggle through 100+ messages. 🙂
  23. Its not just the fact that MS came back to the genre but they came back and really shook things up by turning conventions on their head. I realized things weren't going to be business as usual when the Japan World Update dropped. It came as quite a surprise that they would be giving all of that for free and it was just the beginning. Since then they've released an avalanche of free content on us and have been doing so much to make the base sim as comprehensive as it can be. Their efforts to make the sim as marketable as it can be while maintaining a high level of authenticity has also led to a thriving third party market where devs can sell products at reasonable prices while making more money than they ever did before. Yup, MSFS is the best thing that has happened to flight simming, no doubt about it.
  24. All from the legacy of FSX products.
  25. I had the same problem, in Task Manager ActiveSkyUtils.exe was not running. Deinstalled the connector and ...same problem. BUT. I noticed no mentioned Addons folder in the ASFS folder. But while installing I saw very short that Addon folder apparently was added... somewhere... with Roaming in it. So I searched AND: I found it, but it was not in my Community folder (which I have on a handpicked location, and always found by other installation programs) but in the C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\AS_FS\AddonFolder Ran the ActiveSkyUtils.exe et voila... ASFS now works. Now I have only to test it yet.
