  1. Past hour
  2. The larger the gap, the longer it takes for TLOD to change. I just saw it changing from 975 to 50. That did take a while. Which is very very good. In fact I just had the idea to capture a short video showing TLOD changing in this way, as I think a video will demonstrate this much better than still images. I'm sure Reset will elaborate on this. Since he mentioned what you refer to above, I've set target FPS to 2 below the lock. I'll keep an eye on this to see if I've got the same issue on my end. Off topic: Does anyone else have the issue of Avsim freezing up after hitting "submit reply"? This happens very often for me. To the extent that I always make a backup of my longer posts. And btw I just copied this one to the clipboard, just in case.
  3. Does the gap between the target FPS and your current FPS dictate how quickly your LODs change? I tried something Reset had said, that you could set your FPS to 1 or 2 frames below your locked rate (I set it to 2) and I found it crawling in terms of FPS adjustments, even at the default sensitivity of 5. So I dropped the FPS target to 60 (I have my system set to a max of 70 via NCP and using GSYNC ) and the LOD settings started changing quicker.
  4. Same here, no issues, release version of AutoFPS is working as intended. @Reset XPDR, sorry for bothering you so much today. I'm getting very confused nowadays as we have two active AutoFPS threads and I'm having huge trouble trying to keep up with them both. Half of the time I don't even know which thread I'm posting in πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I'd like to hear what fellow forum users think: which thread is the most appropriate to use? I'm really thinking we need to focus the discussion in one thread. Perhaps I'm about to change the previous viewpoint that it is time for this thread to be locked... Unless Reset plans further test builds - then I think it would be more relevant to keep discussing these in this thread - and discuss release version in the other thread.
  5. Abennett, god bless you man, yes, yes, yes, its working,
  6. Just wanted to elaborate a bit further on the "FG inactive" issue as it seems to create some confusion - which is very understandable. The key point is this: Native vs. FG-FPS: Native FPS is FPS when FG is inactive Native FPS can be shown by selecting developer mode and FPS overlay I took two screenshots to illustrate this further: MSFS in focus: MSFS not in focus: Those with sharp eyes might also notice that in the 1st image with FG active, the values are blurred. Indeed here I've been very lucky to capture those infamous albeit elusive FG-inherent artifacts that I've been ranting about for several weeks now. This happens because the values are changing so quickly that FG fails to properly generate an AI-image that inserted between two native images. This can also sometimes be seen when panning around very quickly. Also note that this is not the same as the stuttering issue when native FPS is low. Note that in the 2nd screenshot, values in AutoFPS are red. This is because now FPS is now way below target FPS. AutoFPS will then lower all values accordingly to try to bring FPS back up to target FPS. Unfortunately I'm not able to demonstrate this for now, as I'm having some issues with AutoFPS. One of the issues being that FPS intermittently is being reported as "zero". But then at least it will bring all values down to min. Which incidentally demonstrates what MSFS looks like at 5000ft with a TLOD of 50. Also note that here I've chosen VFR mode even with an airliner, as I'm in a remote area (Innsbruck) hence there's plenty enough headroom. I.e. in this case the performance impact of an airliner is negligible.
  7. No, but I do remember 3rd. party programmers becoming scarce! Now when that area begins to grow, oh yeah! We'll see, it's early.
  8. That I didn't know. Thank you for the heads up. I guess that's how they roll πŸ˜‚
  9. Today
  10. You might be right. What I've noticed is that TLOD definitely influences photogrammetry. I'm very happy with Norway in MSFS now, especially after two WUs. The mesh is fantastic. Lofoten IMO is by far the most beautiful part of Norway. I've been there several times and every time I return I get goosebumps! And I love landscape photography! Luckily we're in the screenshot forum, so: (the relevance being to compare MSFS to RW of course) Please do. It'll be great if we could use this thread to share LOD comparisons.
  11. No not the walk around. If you look at FSR's settings, it has it's own zoom level and camera height. They can play havoc if/when they conflict with MSFS's own settings for the same. I had high hopes for the walkaround, but the resolution and antialiasing would totally fail as soon as it was activated - leading to a pixelated mess.
  12. Orbx did the same with the COWS DA-42. Had it listed with the add to cart button (and error if you clicked it) three days before that launched too.
  13. Hi Ray, Perhaps I misunderstood, but I was under the impression all was well while using SSNG whereas you were experiencing strange behaviours with various addons when SSNG was not part of the equation. I was simply wondering whether SSNG was creating unique configurations as part of its method of operation. If these configurations remained in place when P3D was run directly from its desktop icon then perhaps this might explain those anomalies. Uninstalling SSNG should, and again I say hopefully, undo those modifications, if such exist, and would be a way of confirming that SSNG was somehow involved. Regards, Mike
  14. Got the same quick Installation Manager update screen, that disappeared too fast to allow me to check anything. Then the sim started to load in windowed mode, so I pressed the Alt + ENTER to put in full screen and luckily everything went fine and could complete a short flight. I think something's should be going on with the MS Servers.
  15. What I do for the time being is every time I shut down the PC I remove Gaming Services with Powershell (Admin), then when I turn on PC, I open Xbox App and it reinstalls Gaming Services, then Flight Sim works perfectly. I just need to remember always to remove Gaming Services. Instructions for doing this are below. Note that where it says 'Restart System' I don't restart (well I suppose I do), but I just delete Gaming Services before shutting down, it should make sense. If you forget to remove Gaming Services, you will have to restart the PC if you then turn on PC and want to use MSFS, i.e. you would need to remove Gaming Services, Restart, open Xbox App etc... This has worked 100% of the time for me. I suppose we have all got used to checking for it saying Syncing Data in the launch splash screen of MSFS where it cycles through, Launching Game, Checking for Updates, etc. If it says Syncing Data, all will be good. Instructions Reinstall Gaming Services Right-click on the Windows Start button and select PowerShell (Admin). In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter: get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers In the same window, type the following command and press Enter: start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN Restart your system. Start the Xbox application. You should see a Green or Blue banner with the following message: "This app needs an extra component. Gaming Services are needed for playing some games. Administrator approval is required. Install" Select Install to reinstall Gaming Services. After the installation is complete, you should be able to install and start games again.
  16. From the thread title, I was expecting a detailed essay πŸ˜„ Turned out the title was longer than the OP. There's always something we can come up with to worry about. This one wouldn't be one I'd personally bother worrying about. We have no idea when FS2024 will drop. They say 2024 but it's not outside the realms of possibility that it gets delayed into 2025 (with a name change of course).... what then? Buying no addons for the next year?? Also, it will probably take 3rd party devs some time to get to grips with the native FS2024 SDK. There could be few native FS2024 addons for the first 6 months or so. MSFS2020 content may be the main stay of what we're still using in the initial months of FS2024. As others have said, MS have said content will be backwards compatible with MSFS. Just buy what takes your interest and don't buy what doesn't.
  17. Somebody posted an archive of the Polly Player for Windows so I thought I'd give it another shot. Like before, it's hit or miss. Sometimes it works when I start the software the first time, others times it might be the 3rd or 4th attempt. I go into Config and play each Polly voice before I set up my flight. If they play, then they will work for the entire flight. If not, I have to restart P2A. Cost wise I spend about $0.25 a month, but I don't use it for every flight. You have to give your CC details when setting up your AWS account, and it's automatically charged to the card. All in all, it was a bit of a chore to set up, but now that I have it up and running it works pretty well. One thing to note, not all Polly voices will work, but there are around 20 that do. I have a different Polly voice in each position.
  18. It's pretty well done and high fidelity. If you own their P2006, it's a very similar vibe but larger and with two 375hp Lycoming TEO540C1A engines fitted. Good for 170knots. I quite like it but I prefer the P2006. Just a touch more polished.
  19. These developers are like small mom and pop shops in your local town. They depend on patrons to support them to feed their families and stay in business. To quit buying from them is not a good idea. You are worrying over nothing. Asobo has said all addons will be compatible. Even most developers said that they will not charge for their addons to be updated to 2024. You guys, this is not going to be some giant new sim that is started over from scratch. 2024 will literally be the same sim/game as 2020 just with added features and improvements. Just like P3D did with versions 1 though 6. All the same sim/game, charged for each and every one of them for the new features. Sure, some addons needed to be tweaked with a patch, but ya know what, they all worked just fine, most within days. You are safe to continue buying and using addons all the way up until the release of version 2024. And you can still use 2020 for as long as you want. Enjoy what you have in front of you and cross the 2024 bridge when it comes. Quite possibly still 7-9 months away.
  20. I need to test it as well. I have been under the impression that OLOD is specifically tied to airports and airport sceneries, rather than other scenery. In fact, I thought TLOD (combined with the buildings setting in the graphics menu) is what most affects the building details over a metropolitan area. Vis a vis Denver, unfortunately it doesn't look good with PG, and doesn't look like Denver when it's not in PG. Norway, on the other hand, is STELLAR with high TLODs. I took off and flew around ENAL as I tested TLOD settings. I decided that about 800 is the max that makes a substantial difference (600-800 is subtle but noticeable). It's also the max I can do around ENAL while also holding 60 FG FPS at 17,000 AGL. I would love to visit Norway. Farthest north I've gotten is Denmark. If I get any conclusions from OLOD testing, I'll post here.
  21. By internally, do you mean that this effect is not reflected in the FPS value under sim values? I'm trying to elaborate a bit further on the FG active vs inactive issue, and in doing so I discovered that AutoFPS is not reducing TLOD when FG is inactive. Am I missing something here? Just trying to figure out a way to force AutoFPS to reduce LODs to min when unable to reach target FPS. Or is what I'm seeing related to what you mentioned above? EDIT: And when bringing MSFS back into focus after writing this post, AutoFPS is back to showing FPS as zero... I'm getting very confused here. Well at least I got it to lower all values... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
  22. Steam seems to be difficult to access for me as well Setting up an Steam Account impossible -so far -after many tries Must be getting old! xxd09
  23. Might has well keep supporting developers. Lets face it when 2024 releases you could be waiting for a while just to download it because the servers can't handle everyone and what ever is broken and needs porting over which can take a bit of time.
  24. Yesterday
  25. You will lol No problem with that at all. I'm also holding off on a GPU upgrade because the promised optimizations might make my current setup work well with the new sim. As for addons? I think I bought the most since 2024 was announced lol. If they say virtually everything will be compatible, I won't worry about it.
  26. Hollywood used to have a few slips with its continuity checking. There were at least a couple of old cowboy films where contrails could be seen in the blue sky.
