  1. Past hour
  2. Don’t want to come across as overly negative, but currently there’s three threads on the topic. It quickly gets confusing…
  3. Same old behavior not going back to FS9/FSX/P3D WX for that matter with a WX API closed by MSFS for 3d party... My guess is the grid pattern of clouds is seen also, sudden cloud shifts reappearing disappearing? Well enjoy AS, not my cup of tea anymore after almost two decades of AS have seen it all...
  4. My first reaction to the topic title: not another weather addon thread 😅 Might be wise to stay away from European skies with these roaming around 😉
  5. Sorry if this has been mentioned deep into a bunch of AS threads but I thought I'd ask a few questions here. Hoping this can be clarified. 1) How does AS differ from the default weather when it comes to live weather (i only fly in live weather)? 2) Are the clouds visually different than the default? 3) How does this AS differ from the AS that I used in P3D? What is missing / what is included? Basically I was never a fan of the default weather when it comes to how the clouds and the cloud layers were depicted so I was hoping AS would solve that. Thanks again and sorry if this has been discussed
  6. And now ORBX too - https://orbxdirect.com/product/indiafoxtecho-tornado-msfs
  7. HiFiSim is pleased to announce the release of a new product in its long line of innovative weather add-on software--this time for the Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) platform. Active Sky FS (ASFS) provides direct MSFS2020 integration to bring the Active Sky weather engine to the MSFS2020 (PC) platform. Focused on comprehensive weather realism simulation, ASFS includes high-fidelity weather data and synthesis, planning, briefing, mapping, live weather, optional historical weather with playback, custom weather, scenarios, API, multiple depiction options, active air effects, snow depth data control, voice features, Navigraph and SimBrief integration, and much, much more. Details are available at the ASFS product page: http://hifisimtech.com/asfs
  8. https://msfsaddons.com/2024/04/19/indiafoxtechos-tornado-is-now-available-for-microsoft-flight-simulator/ Not sure where from apart from SimMarket just yet but sounds like ORBX etc will follow - https://secure.simmarket.com/indiafoxtecho-tornado-msfs.phtml
  9. Because Vader won’t let me 😆 I sort of “fly”the Executor though 😎 Indeed. The sim keeps improving, and IMO it’s never been as good as in SU15, in terms of stability and performance. Lots of quirks here and there still, but the positives outweigh the negatives by far! Since the list of available high-quality payware addons is mind-boggling, it’s probably a good idea to start with a few favorite aircraft and airports. It’s easy to get carried away… Oh, and don’t listen to Sonosusto. Just look at that ridiculous helmet - can’t take him seriously.
  10. I actually found the price of good add-on aircraft amazing value - $70 for a 'study level' aircraft seemed very good value. Today's prices are insanely cheap!
  11. I will buy it when my bad economy allows it, I have it on xplane and just for the historical climate it's worth it.
  12. I tried a friends MSFS PC and he had Rex, and I don't think it compares at all with Active Sky, which just looks much better.
  13. Is that even available any more, did he move to a different site? Hasn't been updated in forever on flightsim.to and the file is "currently unavailable".
  14. All nice. The deal breaker with REX for me was the messed up wind injection (affecting active runway selection) on the ground. I contacted them and they say there will never be a fix for it.
  15. It is an amazing time to be a simmer. I have really good aircraft that don’t get enough flying time from me, that says a lot about the quantity of quality addons available.
  16. Despite reading every single post in this thread, I’m still not convinced. I’ve had REX Weather Force for quite a while, and recently started using it again. Need some time to understand what benefits it brings, and then what improvements AS might bring vs REX. I’ve already blown my addon budget for this month… EDIT: the price at the moment is very good, so I might get it just for the sake of comparing it with default and REX.
  17. Thanks Ray for finding this spreadsheet. It is very usefull.
  18. Many people have complained that MSFS Live Weather never seems to generate a true stratus layer. You are complaining because ASFS has created what appears to be a very realistic looking stratus layer! There is nothing “horrible” about it. Those kinds of flat layers (that look exactly like your screenshot) occur all the time - especially right offshore in Southern. California at this time of year. Now, your photo shows the real clouds at that time are stratocumulus. One problem with using METAR to generate clouds is that METAR normally contains absolutely no information as to what exact kind of cloud layer might exist with an observation of OVC (overcast). The only time the type of cloud might appear in a METAR is TCU (towering cumulus) or CB (cumulonimbus). MS Live Weather has more information from the weather model that can help determine the exact cloud type - which depends on how stable or unstable the air is, and the temperature lapse rate. You will get a very flat stratus layer when there is a temperature inversion - I.e. the temperature aloft is warmer than the air at the surface, and there is more moisture in the air near the ground than at higher altitude. No METAR report can give that information. ASFS has data from the GFS weather model that might help determine that. As the program develops I’m sure HiFi will work on integrating model data with the METAR to help refine the cloud depiction. The program is brand new, and under active development. Give it time to mature. In the meantime, it is refreshing to see true stratus in MSFS (which Live Weather rarely depicts). It is unrealistic to expect any sim weather engine to show exactly the same sky conditions you see outside your window.
  19. Instant purchase for me once released! Looks spectacular even in WIP state. Finally we are getting close.
  20. Wow. Can of worms. Out of the box you get fairly decent GA planes and a few decent airliners. Airports are improved over other sim but as always, lacking in the buildings/details department. Some are not even modeled at all. Freeware from Flightsim.to is your best best to find these missing airports. Avoid downloading and installing too many sceneries as they can conflict with each other and cause a CTD. I have a ridiculous amount, being said. Using the Addonlinker (that's been mentioned here) is your best best to allow "links" to the sim community folder. Much like X-Organizer etc. In my signature you can see all the planes I own and I do fly often. The F28 is still really new to me so I cant vouch for all of it. You will find that the sim is in fact excellent despite its bugs/issues/quirks. AutoFPS and the Frame Generation mod will improve FPS. Rex Seasons and Textures are great as well. I would avoid weather programs as they don't compare (visually) to MSFS default weather. If you have the Rex accuseason advanced it has a lot of good presets though. AIG and FSLTL for traffic. FLSTL is great for performance and live traffic. AIG for liveries and offline traffic but it eats performance so turn it down to like 20ish haha. So much excellent information here! Except Captain Piett. You should just ignore him because he doesn't even fly a TIE Fighter.
  21. In fairness it kind of did die out. Xplane was never able to get the buy-in that MS gave up. There were still people running FSX in 2019 because they didn't want to switch. And P3d required some uh... Liberal interpretations of licensure to buy which some never bothered with. Plus, P3d was essentially MSFS (still is, but with many more improvements). Before MSFS'20 came out, finding a decent controller on a budget was pretty much impossible. Finding a good addon airplane that wasn't expensive was almost as difficult. It's come roaring back with a vengeance now that MSFS is on the scene, but I still think M$ screwed up firing the ACES gang and exiting the market. That's 10 years of development they missed out on, and they had to turn to a studio that had never developed so much as an addon for a flight sim before. That's working out well, but there were definitely growing pains that were an entirely unforced error on Microsoft's part. I absolutely think MS will abandon flight sims again in the future. But that doesn't mean I won't enjoy it while it's here. Every business abandons everything eventually, sometimes inexplicably such as when EVGA decided they weren't going to make video cards any more. I'll keep flying as long as the sim works.
  22. Quite. You see a lovely storm building up, but the lightning, thunder and rain doesn't start until the storm has passed you. Damned inconvenient.
