Which processor?
brucewtb replied to TrevorS's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etc
Hmmm on looking at this again you might be right. I am going have to temper my expectations for a CPU upgrade induced FPS boost. More reason to hang on to my 9900 for a bit longer but like you I have another use for the 9900 so I am going to have to upgrade at some stage over the medium term and yes upgrading from a 3080ti to a 4090 has been one of my better hardware purchases as much for the doubling of VRAM as for FG. Interesting I have been waiting for info on where Intel is going with their new CPUs. Bruce -

I know the Asobo "weather radar" is bare (iirc isn't it some sort of bitmaps?), but IMO it is better than nothing. I dont understand why Fenix is so reluctant to implement it in their product. Is it a technical limitation? It's confusing to me as I see other products (Inibuild, FSS Ejets, Leonardo, etc.) with the default weather radar.... John.

Day 1 purchase for me! -
It has a working cockpit door though 😁 If you’re into airliner flying, I can’t see many good reasons for not getting it. The flash sale will last a little longer (I think!). There’s also a thread on the latest update.
-
That is unexpected. Perhaps keep testing in different locations and maybe a new thread will bring input from other 7800XRD owners.

Your thread title was 1 letter off from being very embarrassing. Your auto correct is sus… 🤔😂

Freezing sim? (Mostly Fenix but not only)
brucewtb replied to dolbinau's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Unfortunately I still have this sim frozen but sound still audible hassle - at least with the Fenix and DX12. the PMDG 737 seem to behave normally with DX12 but not the Fenix - freezes after 30-60 mins. However tried the Fenix with DX11 and and no freezes after 4 plus hours. This is a bit of a bummer as I have been relying on DX12 and FG so that I can have decent FPS with my 9900KF/4090 combo. Whatta you know. I found a neat little tidbit in the history books. I was personally invited to become an Avsim Reviewer by none other than Tom Allensworth himself. Interesting reading. . .July 14, 2010 Quality standards near rock bottom on this review - AVSIM Reviews Feedback - The AVSIM Community Top of Page 2. Regards, Ray

fenis A320 - latest release
carlanthony24 replied to dbw1's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
It does not have weather radar. Not Fenix or any other developers fault with it being so basic. I believe the reason FBW got rid was it was a massive FPS hit. -
Still no historical weather options for MSFS?
Damian Clark replied to jjf's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
As has been said over and over, by many including me, it's obvious MSFS weather is great. Some may choose to look at the possibility of any weather add-on as a black and white "this or that" proposition, something that has to either replace the internal weather, or not be used at all. One or the other. But I think that view is strange. Add-ons are supposed to enhance the sim. While it's true that AS has provided many features that haven't been in other sims before, it has always been an add-on, adding features and capabilities for those who want more depth in their weather experience. By real life pilots and hard core enthusiasts, for real pilots and hard core enthusiasts.. that's how it started, and we haven't drifted very far from that. Nobody was ever forced to use Active Sky. While MSFS now has many of the features of the legacy Active Sky tech, we can always improve and offer valuable features to certain users. Why not? I think we've proven over and over that we can always succeed in that. I know there's a very few very vocal critics of myself and Active Sky, that have somewhat dominated the AVSIM wx discussions over the past few years. You've nearly succeeding in making us give up. But our supporters and their growing encouragement helped us overcome that. This product is made for them, the Active Sky fans, supporters and weather enthusiasts everywhere. It's not for those who can't find value in our efforts. Enjoy MSFS default weather, or ASFS, or any wx enhancement you want. -
This - I just upgraded to the 4070ti Super with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU and everything, everywhere on Ultra 4K is butter. Jase

Floyds Epic Clouds (Latest version)
Fielder replied to HiFlyer's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Back in my day we had glorious clouds ! -
Btw, the missing wx radar is not Fenix fault. It is MS unwillingness to provide the needed data in an API.
-
I can confidently say that I've never seen clouds depicted like that testing ASFS, well... maybe in some earlier testing/trial sessions gone wrong! But nothing assigned for actual use. We've worked really hard to provide the cloud layer configuration parameters to get the right visuals while keeping accuracy and cloud layer type as precise as possible. Density, scatter, coverage and height parameters all have a very significant impact on the depiction rendered in MSFS. Going too far depending on thickness, type, altitudes, density or coverage can yield bad results like above. Tuning is so very important. And always an ongoing process. Anyhow, stay tuned for post-release screenshots and videos which can show more, or maybe give it a try yourself when available! Thanks for your support!

Still no historical weather options for MSFS?
MrBitstFlyer replied to jjf's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Yes, that sky looks great, but the problem is it's all cumulus. All weather in MSFS these days is cumulus. Rex and xEnviro display many more cloud types. Default Live is still good of course, but the addon weather developers just do it so much better (if cloud depiction is more important than local weather model). Looking forward to how ActiveSky portrays the sky. -

Anyone remember the Caribbean update? It was soon replaced with Dune 2. Pathetic. I would much rather see the Caribbean Islands and the clear blue water. Now Gone. -

109Sqn started following Every C-3PO Costume Explained By Anthony Daniels

Just as there is a metal android and a human to portray it, there are 2 sides to Anthony Daniels. One is the very entertaining and funny man who I very much enjoyed narrating a Star Wars concert I attended. The other is a self-important and arrogant individual who seemingly never had a pleasant thing to say to, or about, the man without whom his character would not have been so loved - Kenny Baker. I've not only experienced the former but also the latter, at Celebration 2016* in London. He was walking towards me with presumably a PA or similar, clearly in no hurry, and yet when I politely said hello asked if I could take a quick photograph, he just gave me a disdainful look and threw a hand in the air to wave me off. Not even a attempt to pretend he was in a rush. Sadly, he really does revel in his own self-worth. But I'll still watch that video as he's undoubtedly entertaining when he doesn't have to deal with other human beings (or droids). * Doh! moment from London 2016 was when my girlfriend and I went to collect our Saturday & Sunday tickets from the Excel Centre on the Friday and surprisingly found ourselves being admitted inside along with those who had Friday tickets😲 Not wanting to disadvantage those who'd paid to be there, we didn't attend any events or queue for the shop, but we took the opportunity to get our bearings for the weekend ahead. Then we saw Boba Fett and Boushh standing together in the concourse and so I took a photograph without approaching them, despite my other half suggesting I get a photo with them. Imagine my frustration when it later emerged that rather than being cos players, it had been John Boyega and Daisy Ridley😍 scoping the event incognito. 😲 That close to Daisy! 🤦♂️ We also sat close to Peter Mayhew at one event but he sneaked out just before it finished so I missed that photo opportunity. We did however meet Warwick Davis' family twice over the weekend, and lovely they are too. His wife, Sam, just wanted to be sure we were enjoying ourselves, so genuinely interested. Very different from Mr Daniels. 🙄

Was a huge fan of Active Sky in P3D. I just hope that it is the end of clouds like these. All on ULTRA settings and just look horrible, the wrong colour, and unrealistic. But I imagine this is a sim thing and nothing can be done. I miss the old days of Active Sky for the injection and Rex Sky Force for the actual depiction. Looked so much better than MSFS.
