Richard Harvey AVSIM Lifetime Achievement Award

AVSIM Online Names Richard Harvey for Lifetime Achievement

Our first selection is a person whose name is recognized not only for his contribution to flight simulation, but also for his unstinting courage in the face of overwhelming personal adversity and challenge. He is also recognized for his humility and his passion for his adopted profession. These are the traits of a leader, and in this case, one who is admired by thousands who have had the great privilege of having met him, either in person, or via our virtual world.

The AVSIM staff has had the great privilege to work with Richard Harvey for well over three years now, and we have grown to respect and admire the man and his strength of character. In the face of great personal adversity and the very public demise of the FLY series, Rich has stuck to supporting the continued evolution of FLY through a seeming never ending presence and calm hand. He has supported FLY users without reservation or question, sometime in the most public and humiliating ways. When the community demanded to know the reasons for Fly’s demise, Rich had the courage and fortitude to be the public face of a team abandoned.

FLY III may never see the light of day, but the name Richard Harvey will always be associated with this product and will be remembered for his dedication to seeing that it not just disappear. Rich’s name in the community will always stand for quality, maturity, dedication to purpose, an even hand, and certainly personal courage.

We are proud to present a 2002 AVSIM Lifetime Achievement Award to Richard Harvey for his contribution to the flight sim genre, his very long-standing commitment to supporting his product and its users, his personal courage in the face of overwhelming health issues, and for the model that he represents as a person. Please join us in congratulating Rich for his achievement!
