Yeah when I was researching the paint I was saddened to see that they had recently went under. But our hobby will keep them in the skies (with new 777s to boot) for the foreseeable future. Can't wait to see where you take her on her 1st revenue flight. She'll have to compete with the other green freighter you like to take around the world...hope your Titan isn't the jealous type now that you have TWO green 777 freighters to fly. :Big Grin:

FSX-MS ifly 747 v2 - still only 7 or 8 repaints available?
Steve Dra replied to a topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I'm surprised that Colin has not flooded the net with paints, as he did with the 737. He's one of the most prolific painters out there, and I hope the reason he hasn't moved all of his repaints from one of his previous projects is because the paintkit, texture maps are hard to work with. I'm a little puzzled myself why more paints are not our there. I don't plan to buy the plane, but if I did (and the paintkit/texture maps were good), I'm sure I'd have a few paints out there. -
Security breach at Steve's paint hangar!

I think the font is the right size now....when the bottom is lined up she's done. Taking on a dawn flight.... -

Took her up for a quick look at the new font and flag size.... Maybe just a little larger? Hmmm. Tail is looking ok I think. I swear if there was an easy way to match the lines where the side and bottom textures meet that would cut my painting time on this bird by 75% at least! -

That you do my friend. She's got some issues I need to resolve, but I'll get her done when I can. In the mean time, as I mentioned above, I'm letting you choose your own Empress name...so just shoot me one and that's what the painters will put on the side of her. And also give me a registration number you'd like her to fly with. -

I'll make those changes, I was kinda' thinkin' the same thing. Its a little tricky to scale it correctly working off a totally different airframe, but I'll get her looking respectable soon. Oh..and we don't let Cupcake near the avionics anymore...last time he manned (or dogged, as it were) the radios, his excessive drool shorted out Nav1 and the radar control unit! Its best just to let him look out the window (but don't let him convince you to open it so he can hang his head out...OK for cars...not so much for 777s :Just Kidding: ). He's a really good backup TCAS, he'll woof if he sees traffic nearby, -

Thanks Chris. I hope to have her ready for a test flight this weekend. I'm thinking the font could be a little bigger on the fuse....what's your thoughts? Oh, and since you are now on my corporation's watch list, your first flight in this bird will be with Cupcake in the right seat to keep an eye on you! -

Thanks jime....Having fun with another forum member who encourages me to paint 777 freighters. Thanks Dave. If you have the PMDG 777 and want to get a preview copy of her to evaluate before others, you and another Canuk I'm actually painting it for (Alstiff) are welcome to it. She's not ready for the preview copy just yet...struggling with the lower fuse (as always when there are stripes the transition into the bottom). Also as you can see...her tail still needs paint. Since she's fictional, I'm letting Al pick the Empress name for her. If you have a name you'd like to see on your copy let me know and I'm sure I could talk the painters at the PMDG 777 Division to make that little change for ya' -
[31DEC14] A little something for the New Year...
Steve Dra replied to rsrandazzo's topic in PMDG General Forum
....."Hope the Rottweiler's name is Cupcake or Cream Puff " Chris, his name is in fact Cupcake! Here is a post showing the outcome of your most recent security breach: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/459554-security-breach-at-steves-paint-hangar/?p=3152027 That'll learn ya not to snoop in my hangar anymore! -
Chris (aka Pinlifter) has admitted that he was snooping around my paint hangar recently...bribed my security guard to get in to snap the pics shown below. (taken from the camera we confiscated from him when we took him into custody). You can see he was even brazen enough to hop on the wing to snap a pic....but as you'll notice, my new security dog (We call him Cupcake), was on to him, and encouraged him to stay on the wing until backup arrived, hehe. As you can see in the overhead pic of my hangar, the Security Dog warning is clearly posted...I bet Chris was pretty suprised to see Cupcake after he got up on the wing, LoL! BTW, that's my private TBM850 parked in the hangar...still white from the factory, my PMDG 777 Division said they could paint her for me...she's not a priority right now though... and I keep flying her from city to city visiting all my paint hangars so its partly my fault she's not painted yet, hehe. (I couldn't get hangar space at one single airport for all my hangars, this one is in KDFW). And that's cupcake by the 850, he always sniffs around a new plane when its brought into the hangar. Here is the forum post that led to the new security measures now in place at my hangar... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/458930-31dec14-a-little-something-for-the-new-year/?p=3150687 Now that I'm spending more for security (do you realize how expensive it is to feed a Rottweiler?), I may have to charge more for my repaints...I'm estimating that I'll have to bump the price up 10-15%.

Steve Dra replied to rsrandazzo's topic in PMDG General Forum
Agree Kenzo! This plane could keep painters busy for....forever! Lordy, lordy, lordy that's it Steve Your flightline security chief is easily bribed 777F or 744Fv2, that green would look good anywhere! Look for some preview shots over in the Screenshot Forum soon Chris. I fired my security chief....got a Rottweiler....don't try to bribe him with meat...he's a vegan! -

Steve Dra replied to rsrandazzo's topic in PMDG General Forum
Hey Chris, Was this the glimpse of green you saw snooping around my paint hangar? Yeah, she's waaay in the back of the hangar...you'd actually have to be inside the hangar to get a glimpse of her...I'll have to talk to the flightline security chief about that! (I think you've been watching too many episodes of "Airplane Repo" LoL) She's not ready on the 777 just yet, but may be soon should motivation be infused into my paint hand, hehe. It'd look sooo pretty on a...uhhh...I dunno...a PMDG 744F...don't ya think? -

[31DEC14] A little something for the New Year...
Steve Dra replied to rsrandazzo's topic in PMDG General Forum
I'm beginning to re-tool my paint hangar to accommodate the 747 freighters. Haven't decided which one to paint 1st (but it will be a port of one of my 777F's for sure). It's gonna be tough to pull my hands off the yoke in the 1st few days after release and replace it with a paintbrush, but I imagine I'll get to it once I burn though a few sets of tires! .....Have to remember....Cockpit waaaay higher...flare sooner, save rubber! -
FSX-SE Separate Forum for FSX Steam?
Steve Dra replied to PDX Flyer's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
My reply to another who asked the same question I did 4 days after the Steam release: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/458315-fsx-and-steam-forums/?p=3140781 Hehe...I'm a clairvoyant. Tom's reply and resolution for now... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/458315-fsx-and-steam-forums/?p=3140903 Maybe we'll revisit the topic in a few more weeks....but now you can pass the baton to the next person who asks this when your post is buried a few pages back. -
I don't have FS2Crew and do not see the issue. I am also on DX9. (not that this logic helps..but wanted to point out what I'm running in case installing FS2Crew does somehow effect this, which I can't fathom at this point) This actually looks like a missing texture problem. With that in mind...does this happen in the day time as well? The texture file(s) in question are in your texture.vc folder (only in the 200LR folder) , called PMDG_777_nochrono.dds (and the FOs side is called PMDG_777_nochronor.dds). A few things to obviously check: Does it happen on both sides of the flightdeck? Make sure you have the textures listed above in your texture.vc folder Open them in imagetool or dxtbmp and see if they look right. Look at both the normal and alpha texture. Make sure they are in DX1 512x512 format (not DXT5) Things to do to try and narrow this down: Turn on the storm light...do the textures work? Turn the rheostat that controls the PNL/Flood (inner knob) for each side all the way up and down. Make sure the Master lights knob inner knob is popped out (in manual adjust). Is there any changes to that texture as you adjust the rheostat? Turn the Dome light to both levels of brightness...any effect? Start at Dawn and let the sim transition into day....does the texture appear? (may want to use time compression, hehe) I would offer to have you send me your textures if you're not proficient in viewing DXT files (side effect of being a livery painter), but I fear that 4 letter word....EULA...LoL. Anyway...just a few things to investigate to maybe track this down. Let me know what you find out...this one has piqued my curiosity

Great solution Tom! Thanks for stepping in and giving us wayward simmers some executive direction. I hope that there will be a reason to split the forums one day....hoping that SE will become the real, continuously updated version of FSX we've all been looking for. Not completely optimistic that will happen (I tend to be a realist and know how these things go in the real world), but what I've seen so far, just in new interest and the reports we've seen keeps me encouraged! Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Echofox, I posed this question waaaaaaaaaaaaay back (A whole 4 days ago hehe), and the consensus was that it was not needed. Here is my post: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/457975-fsx-steam-threadsbefore-it-gets-too-hard-to-search/ Fear not...your post will soon be buried pages back like mine now is, and someone else will start another post about it, and then you can refer to your post, and how you asked the same question waaaaaaaay back...then a few days later...well...you get the idea. While I agree FSX:MS and FSX:SE (as we unofficially named the two "Identical" sims) are pretty much the same (yep, both flight simulators, yep both from MS...originally), the wrapper and the apparent differences we're seeing as a community are for at least now, more than just a placebo effect. If I were like you and not interested in FSX:SE at all, I too would get a little tired of sifting through all the posts about a sim you have no interest in. I'd say in a few more weeks if FSX:SE posts are still more than 50% of the posts on the 1st page of multiple forums, we as a community will revisit the idea of a forum for each version...until then, enjoy the irony of having this kind of problem (too many flight sims to think about).

Where is your 777 Now? (Part 4)

Great shots Chris! This is one of my favorite paints. I've taken her around the world. Its too bad UPS doesn't fly them, I think they'd look awesome in the real world! -
FSX-SE FSX Steam threads...before it gets too hard to search....
Steve Dra replied to Steve Dra's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Looks like most are thinking we don't need a new forum. If so, I hope posters will at least look past page 1 before posting a new "Let's post all MSX:SE fixes here" thread, or something closely related. My initial concern is that in the next few days/weeks we may have many duplicate posts,...as we all know not everyone searches past page one (or even to the bottom of page one, lol) before throwing a post out there, and I just didn't want this and other forums getting flooded. Which in turn makes the mods more busy, and opens the door to all the "Why didn't you search before posting" comments that are sure to be included in every post. Even now as I type, over half the posts on the 1st page are Steam related. I guess time will tell if the "Steamers" will flood this forum to the point where all would be in agreement to create their own...let's wait to see what shakes out. -
FSX-SE FSX Steam threads...before it gets too hard to search....
Steve Dra replied to Steve Dra's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
LOL....I just saw that Speedbird and makes my point that much more relevant. We'll see what the masses think and then see if Tom agrees. I'm really stoked about all the rejuvenated interest in FSX..and ANY exposure of this magnitude can only be a good thing for our tiny community (relatively speaking). -
Hey everyone, I see a lot of folks posting fast and furious about the very recent Steam release of FSX. I think already we've done our own classification/standardization of certain terms, one of them differentiating native FSX from the Steam version by referring to them as FSX:MS and FSX:SE respectively. I also see a lot of folks trying to pull everyone together into one post or another to start a parent thread we can all refer to. While an excellent idea, I can see these individual threads quickly growing to unmanageable levels (read: great enthusiasm about the new addition to our world, hehe). I don't mind large threads if I've been keeping up with them, but as we all know they are a little hard to sift through if you're a new guy looking for something particular. Looking for thoughts/comments about maybe dividing the FSX forum and branch it into 2 forums to keep all the new FSX:SE content in one place? I know the pros and cons for that methodology, just want others to chime in and see how they feel and maybe Tom will make an executive decision to act on the consensus. This is a very exciting time for flightsimming!...and while I thought I was just going to pass on this whole Steam thingy (my technical term for all this), at $4.99 there is no way I was not going to buy it...I'm sitting on it and not installing it now until more testing is done, hoping our brave bleeding edge soldiers out there will take all the chances I'm not willing to with my now nicely balanced FSX:MS (LoL) install. My one contribution to this thought of splitting the thread....one of my interests is the compatibility of PMDG products with STEAM. I found the answers over at the PMDG forum, but thinking about sub-categories in the FSX:SE forum that would pull all the related vendor updates/concerns to the new FSX:SE forum vs having to visit each vendor forum looking for FSX:SE info. Looking for constructive thoughts guys.

Dunno Al, have not tried to paint the TBM yet. Which reminds me...I do owe you a paint don't I? I'll see what I can do to get it to you as a Christmas present.
