  1. Thanks Denny. I have not tried the phone activation. The online activation works great. I was using FSX for several days before the floor fell out. Now I'm back to the activation error. I don't know how to manually kick off an activation screen without reinstalling, which I don't want to do with the threat of the 1722 error.Anyone know how to re-initiate the activation screen?Regards,
  2. Thanks Steve. I'm on it.Regards,
  3. Thanks Doug. Glad to see you are up and running okay. I plan on sticking it out this time. I can only hope that this thread will live on until something good takes place. It has a chance if it doesn't turn into a bashfest. The forum seems much calmer these days. Thanks Bob. Hang in there. There's gotta be a solution so that we can move on. I am at least able to run the sim for 30min at a time so that I can keep up with developments and tweaks. The sad thing is that the sim is really working superbly and the frame rates are excellent even with clouds and airline trafic.Oh well, I'm optimistic good things will happen soon. I've heard of many others out there. Maybe they will add on to this endeavour.Take care,
  4. Don't get me wrong, I love FSX - when it works. Right now I'm at the
  5. I'm having the same problem Turnip. What did you do to figure it out? Thanks,
  6. Hi Asim.I think this is just business as usual. I have always noticed small storms brewing on most forums. Since the release of FSX I think the chatter has risen. Still, there are lots of helpful posts here as well. I can pretty much tell by the subject line whether a particular post is useless and simply choose not to open it. Sort of like TV these days.Take care,By the way, AVSIM always does a pretty good job of knowing when to step in. It's a fine balance. I think the forum is working great. There are also many other sections to visit here as well.
  7. Update:I took a look at the new Microsoft FSX Support Site and followed the steps to Clean Boot the PC and delete all %temp% files. I then installed while still in Clean Boot mode and it still failed with error 1722.So, don't waste your time with this particular fix if you are attempting to successfully re-install and are getting the 1722 error.I'm sure something will come up soon.
  8. Hey, thanks guys. I guess I'll just sit and wait until a solution is found. I would hate to rebuild XP again, only to end up at this spot.Regards,
  9. I had the Activation Error a couple of day ago and got in the re-install FSX loop. I re-installed WinXP Pro/SP2 and FSX and everything was fine again. The only change I made was installing Flight1's 172R. After many graphics problems I was getting complete system dump and reboot everytime I quit FSX. Eventually I got a message saying that I had to re-install FSX. When attempting to re-install I got the 1722 again right at 99.99% of the install. Then I get a 1603 when trying to un-install FSX. I don't want to re-install WinXP again.I'll call Microsoft Support when I have a couple of hours to spend on this. Just checking to see if they have a fix for it yet or if anyone has found a workaround or fix.Regards,
  10. >No, changing drivers should not cause you to need to>reactivate. In fact changing some pieces of hardware should>not cause you to reactivate. You have to change enough stuff>to break the hardware ID difference threshold in order to>force an activation. The hardware ID calculation is the same>technology that's used in Office and Windows. Thanks Brian. What do you think is happening with a growing number of users having activation problems? I have not had much time to use my PC or FSX after the intitial install. The only change I made was the installation and uninstallation of the USB Card Reader. Absolutely no other changes. I'm perplexed and puzzled. I purchased FSX a week or more before the official release and it's worked without problems since then.Anyway, I see others have come up with a workaround for re-activation. If this happens again I'll give that a try. I used Ghost to get my PC back up and am ready to re-install FSX.Regards,
  11. Join the club. I too was very optimistic about the CD-Key process and thought that the problems would be rare and only on certain PC's. Well, I am now in the process of re-installing my OS just to get FSX back.My problem started when I simply added an IBM USB Card reader to be able to access various card types (SD, mini SD, MMC, etc). The install went great but I didn't like the ultility to manage the thing so I uninstalled it.When I started FSX I got a message saying that there was something wrong with the program and something about activation. I tried re-activating via the DVD - no worky. I tried un-installing and re-installing. The re-install fails on the 2nd DVD.So, I am re-installing XP/SP2 because I don't know what else to do. I don't think I can wait on hold for very long with the prospect of having to re-install the OS anyway.Considering the price of FSX I don't mind doing this once, but if I am faced with this again I will certainly go back to FS9 until someone finds a more permanent solution.Meanwhile, others should be aware that possibily some simple OS changes may cause them to end up here as well.I wonder how many others have experienced this so far. I've only heard of a few.Good luck with Support. I'll simply start all over.By the way, I am loyal FS fan with many years of computer and networking experience (Windows 2000 MCSE, CNA, etc.) I don't usually gripe but this is very frustrating.Regards,
  12. I installed FSX a couple of weeks ago with no problems. I have been tweaking for days. The only add-ons are FSUIPC4 and Eaglesoft's Liberty XL2. Everything was working fine until today. I installed a USB multi-card reader last night. Today I un-installed it. Pretty simple stuff. Well, now FSX says that it is no longer activated and to call support.Has anyone experienced anything like this? Also, does anyone know how to re-activate without re-installing?Thanks,
  13. I just tested this again. Land detail textures OFF = white taxiway linesLand detail textures ON = yellow taxiway linesBrent, maybe there's a combination of things going on here. Maybe others can try this to confirm whether or not it works.Regards,
  14. Chris, I think you have the Land Details setting unchecked. It's under the Display>Scenery tab.If Land Details is unchecked you will see white taxiway markings.Regards,
  15. Bill, it may be that your graphics card is your bottleneck at this point. I certainly can understand your reluctance to purchase a new card at this time. My bottleneck was not my video card, it was the memory. I think your case fits perfectly in line with the article from FSInsider.Did you run the MS test on your PC? If so, what were the results?Regards,
  16. After reading and applying the suggested tweaks posted by JeanLuc in an earlier thread I noticed modest gains in performance. Nothing to write home about. I still experienced frequent pauses and sometimes low graphic quality in both scenery and aircraft textures. The only thing I hadn't tried was adding more memory to my PC as JeanLuc strongly urged. That made all the difference. Scenery quality and graphic quality is perfect and the sim flys smoothly at the hard coded 26fps. I will try to set it lower to see if I can push more of the sliders to the right. I'll try to post my settings here later, but they are pretty much the default settings with a few minor tweaks.Read this quote from JeanLuc:"Something important with FSX as compared to FS9 is to take inaccount now: memory usage. I cannot get FSX to run along withthe business system it is running on without having around1.2GB memory usage. So Windows XP + a couple backgroundapplications + FSX stock aircraft with the settings above =more than 1GB memory."IF YOU HAVE LESS OR EQUAL THAN 1GB MEMORY in your system, youWILL have performance issues because Windows will very oftenswap memory to disk. FS9 was WAY less consuming than FSX, and2GB would be a minimum to run FSX on Windows XP in limitingswapping."Memory is one of the factors FSX uses in its algorithm to determine what level of performance your PC is capable of - as in this article from FSInsider:Striking a BalanceSo, how do we strike that balance? First, we throw your computer into a bucket, figuratively anyway. After you run Setup and launch Flight Simulator for the first time, it runs an algorithm that measures the following:Processor (CPU) Speed (2GHz, 3GHz, etc.) System Memory, or RAM (512MB, 1GB, etc.) Video Memory (the amount of RAM installed on and dedicated to the video card - 128MB, 256MB, etc.) As the algorithm inventories the PC
  17. Thanks JeanLuc. I trust that you have done ample testing before making such statements. I have followed you advice on many issues and you have always been on the mark. I trust you expert knowledge in this case as well.I purchased my Deluxe copy here in San Antonio yesterday (thanks to whomever gave the tip to get it at BB on 410 and San Pedro) and have found that FPS is acceptable and fluid in my scenery area (KSAT) if I make several adjustments to Autogen and Fiber_Frame_Time_Fraction. I'm still experimenting and plan to move on to more graphic intense airports soon. My system is not on the cutting edge: ATI Radeon X1300 video card with 256mb; 3GHz CPU; 1Gig RAM. I have a dual boot system with WinXP-SP2 and Vista RC1/5600. I have FSX on both XP and Vista with no problems in my scenery area.I really like the fact that we can now easily save configurations and load them when needed. I plan to create a JeanLuc config with the settings you suggested and test it on both WinXP and Vista. My next step is to use the ASv6 Wx Engine with FSUIPC 4/beta. I'm having a lot of fun so far with this new sim. I can't wait until the add-on market ramps up to full speed. Thanks a bunch JeanLuc. Keep us informed on any other findings you come up with. I am more than eager to try them out.Take care,
  18. Flying simulator gamer thingy...
  19. Yeah, Microsoft would have done well to hire this guy to work on some or all of the major airports in FSX. Having half of the detail he puts out would have been great for FSX.I always buy his stuff without question. Always minimal frame rate impact too. How does he do it?
  20. I will of course enjoy the new version of FS as much as I have enjoyed the current and previous versions, warts and all. I am a real world pilot and fly mainly smaller GA aircraft in FS. I don't need a whole lot of bells and such to enjoy navigating throughout the U.S. and abroad. Just a good cockpit with good flight dynamics and weather.I am flying the demo in Vista RC1 with a beefy PC and I can live with the trade off between cutting edge and functionally adequate.Regards,
  21. >Is there any way to open a checklist, that is in pdf format,>in the kneeboard? Thanks, regards, Bob.There are many ways Bob. Both free and payware. FSWidgets does a nice job with their Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). Just search this site for kneeboard (watch your spelling) or go to fswidgets.com.Hope this helps.
  22. Oh what the ####. I have to post to keep current anyway.I have a feeling that "Reverse Thrust" (please sign your posts) would be one of the first to complain about KPDX being buggy and questioning Flightscenery for pushing it out so quickly. I applaud Flightscenery for the excellent work they do and for giving us a preview of what's to come. The previews are often enough to push others to do better as well.Regards,
