  1. Personally, I think this thread has become too big and unweildy to glean much information from it. I would like to see it locked and this discussion moved to its on FSPS forum, OR at least people post their own threads about the product or topic so that we can get to the heart of the questions being asked.
  2. Hi guys. I fly FSX SP2, under win8.1 normally without any problems. Recently I purchased Fiber Accelerator and now have found a problem. When I go from full screen mode to windowed mode, in order to tweak FA, often when I return to FSX, the sim has switched to mouse mode control and no longer sees my saitek X55 Rhino HOTAS set up. Quite annoying to be half way through an approach to landing and lose all control input!!! I wrote to FSPS tech support, who wrote me back indicating this has nothing to do with Fiber Accelerator, but is a bug in FSX/Win81 ? Havent heard of that, but I also have never had to switch between applications dynamically like with this tool. Anybody else heard of this or experienced the same? is there a fix? I hate to say it, but if there is no fix, i will drop using Fiber Accelerator because obviously my set up is incompatible with its use. Eric
  3. Alabeo Cessna Cardinal C-177. This is the fixed gear version. Just (just) enough power to fly below the rim. but a struggle to get out of the ditch. you dont realize the impact of the altitude and the height of those walls!! I wouldnt try this is the default C172.
  4. Flying last evening from KGCN over the Grand Canyon. I know you are not supposed to fly below the rim, but I didnt see any FAA officials...so what the heck. :-) Im using FTX global vectors, FTX global scenery, the Alabeo C-177 and Pilots 19m mesh.
  5. FloG has asked my question correctly. (thanks!) Does it make a difference with FA if I use enb or DX10?
  6. The FA thread has gotten too long to be manageable. so I am asking my question separately. Does it make a difference if you use enbseries DX9 or DX10 preview with FA?
  7. First, this thread has gotten very, very long. can we not have a forum specifically for this tool? Something tells me we need it now and in the future. ------------- Ok, I have now had a couple of days and a few hours to play with the FSPS Fiber Accelerator. Good tool. It does what it says it will. However, understand, this tool is for very tactical real time management of both FPS and environment presentation. While you can adjust a slider that will tweak both FPS and terrain clarity up and down, on the fly, the need to do so is dependent on the aircraft you fly, the weather you fly in, and the scenery complexity. I find that it also is very dependent on the speed of the aircraft you are flying and what you are doing. I find the seattle area to be hammering on my PC. My default flight is the default C172 and Bremerton Intl. Close enough to Seattle without the big airport. I also like to fly either GA or military aircraft. I am not currently into the big airliners. My experience is that I can fly the C172 both low and slow with 24 FPS as the low frame rate level in FA. This generates very clear textures on my Orbx/FTX PNW scenery with global vectors and Pilots mesh. However, if I fire up Dino Cattaneo's T-45 and go low level very fast, there is no way in hell the scenery is going to keep up. Especially in urban areas, I get the blurries. No problem with the slower simpler C172. If I reduce the low FPS setting in FA, I get slightly better performance, but still wont catch up even down to 13 FPS. Now, I run an almost new Lenovo X510 Erazor PC. i7-4470k CPU, 32 GB of RAM and a Nvidia 650 GTX video card. 3TB of SATA HD space with 1TB F drive completely dedicated to FSX. All this under Win 8.1 64 bit. This tool works but its very, very tactical. I have to spend almost as much time playing with the LFPS slider in FA as working the simulation itself. All under windowed mode. I prefer Full Screen. My only thought for future versions would be the ability to save a configuration file associated with a specific aircraft and or scenery/scenario. My hope would be to tweak once and forget about it. Unfortunately, the nature of this tool is dynamic management of the sims behavior as much as AC systems.
  8. I typically really like and appreciate Frooglesims reviews. Trustworthy source IMHO. However, I liked this review much better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6QjTpxe_0E
  9. I had this problem, or close to it. Uninstall and reinstall it with "run as administrator" for the installer.
  10. This is painful to watch. Froogle spends half the video flying a circuit without even using the Fiber Accelerator. Too much goofing around in this for me.
  11. My biggest concern is what about the many many many freeware and payware addons for FSX? A steam version of FSX would cause problems with that as far as I could tell. Im not an xplane user, but i was enthused to see steam bring that aboard. I will problably use steam to manage Xplane for the simple reason that this is still a live product with ongoing developments.
  12. Well, despite an initial thought of waiting this one out... I went ahead and downloaded the longer demo. To my (somewhat) surprise, this thing works, so I bought it. What I am finding is that the ability to dynamically tweak the sim while you are in session is tremendous. For instance, mostly a lower frame rate of 23-24 will do pretty well for me. However, if I am at a heavier FPS airport like KLAX and I am taxiing to the gate, I can turn the lower FPS down to about 14 and the rendering of the airport etc, goes way up. However, when I am departing and need smooth graphics, I can turn this Lower FPS up to 24 and depart no problem. Since this is a new tool, I'm still really learning the tactics of how to use this ability smartly. Leads me to flying a lot in windowed mode. I don't like that. While the tool is great, I wish that there was an APP for this for the iPad or Android. To be able to use simconnect to link an app that controlled FPS and graphics from a tablet, while in Full screen mode on the PC would be FANTASTIC. To me this would be a killer app and I would pay for it.
  13. Dino's F-14 (and his T-45) are really excellent. To be honest, they are better than much of the payware thats out there. We are blessed to have such talent available to us still as freeware/donationware. I fly these two and his F-35, but am still learning the funky new cockpit in the F35!!! Eric
  14. The responses seem to be a little bit all over the place. Generally I am extremely cautious about any software that makes big claims. I'll let you guys beta test the stuff, then I will jump in late. heck, I only moved over to FSX from FS9 about 4 months ago...
  15. I think Im just gonna wait awhile and see what the story is when the dust settles. My PC runs fine.

  17. Couple of shots from this weekend's military simming for the 4th of July. Dino Cattaneo's fabulous F-14.
  18. I put my FSX on a dedicated removable hard drive under its own directory tree. Nothing special, just wanted the ability to pop out the whole lot on one drive if I wanted to. Thats a 1TB drive ,but Im beginning to think thats not going to be big enough. And to think my first company issued laptop in the early 90's had a HD of 20MB. And that seemed like PLENTY. And I still miss Tornado as my favorite combat sim of all time. I wish somebody would reproduce that thing. Friggin awesome. Still. Remember fighting to get below 640K memory limits and things like load high bat files? Same thing as this quest for FPS.
  19. It amazes me that this many years into FSX, with all the growth in PC capability, that we are still chasing the holy grail on FPS and OOMs in a 50 dollar piece of software. I myself have hundreds of dollars i add ons, and gigabytes of installed terrain, mesh, aircraft, airports, etc. etc. I think we are all crazy.
  20. I run FSX on 64 bit win 81. with no problems whatsoever.
  21. Not sure what the problem is there. In any case, I bought the Pilots global mesh (about 100 gb of it!!) and whenever this week that finishes downloading, i will install it. That will fix it.
  22. Yeah this was pretty much my experience. I opened the software just to see what the hell it did and how it worked...that counted as ONE try. I was not going to attempt use until I saw how it worked at least. When I did use it, the FTX/Orbx scenery I selected (FTX England) looked very poor with not much FPS improvement. Certianly no scenery improvement. DELETE. Game over. Thanks for playing.
  23. I tried this. Didnt work for me. i deleted it.
  24. I love Dino cattaneo's T-45 Goshawk for FSX. Its almost my default aircraft when not flying big jets. However, i am enamored with the Hawk airframe and would like to fly European or other variants. I googled this and found the skysim Hawk, which looked GOOD, but also it seemed that its been pirated on a lot of torrent sites, so I have no confidence in the legitimacy of the download. Whats the best European BAE hawk I can get? Free or payware. Also a Legit purchase option. Would also appreciate any comments on comparison to Dino's freeware product which as far as I am concerned sets the bar. Thanks Eric
