  1. I run FSX on my Win 7 x64 system which has an Intel I7-3770 (not OC) at 3.4 gh on an ASUS P8X77-V Deluxe MB. I have 8mb of system memory. My current video card is a GeForce GTX 560-Ti with 1 mb of graphics memory. Given the limitations of FSX would a GTX-770 or 780 with either 2mb or 4mb of memory improve my system with the heavy load of scenery like FTX and a/c like the PMDG-777? Would my VAS usage benefit from the new card? Thanks Dom
  2. Thanks to all but a special thank you to "BeachPapa" for precisely answering my original question. Dom
  3. Thanks for the responses. I also use Acronis. When you perform your backups, do you image your entire "C" drive also assuming your FSX installation is on a drive other than "C"?. Are there particular files you specifiy? Dom
  4. I would like to make a backup of my existing FSX installation, My FSX installation and all related scenery and third party programs reside on my drive designated as "F". Does anyone who has made a backup of their FSX have an inventory of those files that were included in their backup scheme including those files installed on the "C" drive by default? thanks Dom
  5. Which product version are most simmers using? Is it the "academic license" version or something else? Dom
  6. I was scanning FSX for duplicate afcads and i have the following two entries as example: ADE_FTX_ENG_EGNO,BGL BR2_EGNO.BGL (from MyTraffic 2010) Should the MyTraffic 2010 entry be turned off as a duplicate? Does the Orbx entry contain AI aircraft? Thanks Dom
  7. I have encountered a problem with FSX which was not happening last week. See screen capture. My system is using an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560Ti card under DX11 and I have not had a problem until yesterday. I installed new scenery Oslo v2 and the FTX Global Base Pack update v1.2. When I attempted to run FSX, I got this message. Can anyone help? I AM NOT running Prepard3. Thanks Dom
  8. Can someone please define the installation path for the data base? On the FMC, the 1307 cycle does not report. Thanks Dom
  9. Can someone please define the FSX path to which the Navigraph air cycle should be installed? Thanks Dom
  10. I would like to know how to add gate numbers to parking areas using ADEX for FSX by Scruffyduck. Specifically, how to add those gate designators so that they appear on the jetway or building, Can someone direct me to some resources? Thanks Dom
  11. Thanks Ray and Pete. After installing the FSX SDK from the FSX Deluxe disk one and the updates, I edited and compiled the ADE, ran MakeRunways, and everything seems to be correct now. Dom
  12. Thanks for the reply, Ray. I see that I double-posted and I apologize for that. Perhaps the forum moderator can delete that double-post. Now, I have the ADE Editor from Scruffy Duck. I also have FSX Deluxe and all the SP(s) installed. Given this, can I install the SDK from the disk at this point in order to gain the ability to compile changes without affecting the existing FSX installation? Dom
  13. I installed an updated ADE file and after updating all databases using makerwys v 4.6.5.0 . Looking at the runways text file I see that the new ADE file has incorrect ILS frequencies for two of the runways, The text excerpted from makerunways is: Airport LIRF :N41:48:00.9970 E012:14:20.0000 14ft Country Name="Italy" State Name="" City Name="Rome" Airport Name="Fiumicino" in file: F:\FSX\Addon Scenery\\scenery\LIRF_ADE_RS.BGL Runway 16C/34C centre: N41:49:36.5927 E012:15:58.5534 14ft Runway 16C closed for landing and take-off Runway 34C closed for landing and take-off Hdg: 162.650 true (MagVar 0.500), Asphalt, 1972 x 17 ft Primary ILS ID = FNN Primary ILS: FNN 108.50 Hdg: 162.6 , Flags: GS DME "ILS/DME 16C" Secondary ILS ID = ITA Secondary ILS: ITA 108.50 Hdg: 342.6 , Flags: GS DME "ILS/DME 34C" Runway 16R/34L centre: N41:47:55.8787 E012:14:00.0121 14ft Start 16R: N41:48:54.2533 E012:13:35.5663 14ft Hdg: 162.6T, Length 12813ft Computed start 16R: Lat 41.815628 Long 12.226303 Start 34L: N41:46:57.4717 E012:14:24.4577 14ft Hdg: 342.6T, Length 12813ft Computed start 34L: Lat 41.782082 Long 12.240370 Offset Threshold secondary: 1053 feet Hdg: 162.640 true (MagVar 0.500), Asphalt, 12813 x 197 ft Primary ILS ID = FRR Primary ILS: FRR 110.30 Hdg: 162.6 , Flags: GS BC "ILS 16R" Secondary ILS ID = ISW Secondary ILS: ISW 108.90 Hdg: 342.6 , Flags: GS BC "ILS 34L" *** Runway *** LIRF0162 Lat 41.815628 Long 12.226303 Alt 14 Hdg 162 Len 12813 Wid 197 ILS 110.30, Flags: GS BC *** Runway *** LIRF0341 Lat 41.782082 Long 12.240370 Alt 14 Hdg 342 Len 12813 Wid 197 ILS 108.90, Flags: GS BC Runway 7 /25 centre: N41:48:16.3843 E012:15:03.9297 14ft Runway 7 closed for landing Runway 25 closed for landing Start 7 : N41:48:01.9041 E012:14:11.4671 14ft Hdg: 69.7T, Length 10842ft Computed start 7 : Lat 41.799397 Long 12.232380 Offset Threshold primary: 1365 feet Start 25 : N41:48:34.3308 E012:16:08.9641 14ft Hdg: 249.7T, Length 10842ft Computed start 25 : Lat 41.809704 Long 12.269803 Hdg: 69.720 true (MagVar 0.500), Asphalt, 10842 x 148 ft Secondary ILS ID = FEE Secondary ILS: FEE 109.70 Hdg: 249.7 , Flags: GS BC "ILS 25" *** Runway *** LIRF0070 Lat 41.799397 Long 12.232381 Alt 14 Hdg 69 Len 10842 Wid 148 *** Runway *** LIRF0250 Lat 41.809704 Long 12.269803 Alt 14 Hdg 249 Len 10842 Wid 148 ILS 109.70, Flags: GS BC Runway 16L/34R centre: N41:49:45.1448 E012:16:06.6355 14ft Start 16L: N41:50:43.5842 E012:15:42.1721 14ft Hdg: 162.6T, Length 12823ft Computed start 16L: Lat 41.845993 Long 12.261472 Start 34R: N41:48:46.6730 E012:16:31.0970 14ft Hdg: 342.6T, Length 12823ft Computed start 34R: Lat 41.812424 Long 12.275548 Hdg: 162.650 true (MagVar 0.500), Asphalt, 12823 x 197 ft Primary ILS ID = FLL Primary ILS: FLL 108.10 Hdg: 162.6 , Flags: GS BC "ILS 16L" Secondary ILS ID = FSS Secondary ILS: FSS 109.30 Hdg: 342.6 , Flags: GS BC "ILS 34R" *** Runway *** LIRF0161 Lat 41.845993 Long 12.261472 Alt 14 Hdg 162 Len 12823 Wid 197 ILS 108.10, Flags: GS BC *** Runway *** LIRF0342 Lat 41.812424 Long 12.275548 Alt 14 Hdg 342 Len 12823 Wid 197 ILS 109.30 Note that the latest Navigraph charts indicate that Rwy 16R should be 109.75 and Rwy 34R should be 111.550 . 15. I want to be able to execute the checklist flow but have the PNF respond to all items and set knobs and switches. Can this be done? I know that I am defeating the whole purpose of FS2Crew, but am curious. Thanks Dom
  16. As a new user, I installed AS2012 in my FSX system. I accepted the basic custom settings just to test it out. I loaded a flight plan and when FSX came up, the sky is a sickening shade of green as you can see. Can someone advise what I should do to correct this? Thanks Dom
  17. I had this problem a while ago and don't remember how it was solved. I believe it was an effect file addition. Can anyone help? Thanks Dom
  18. Thanks Ronzie and JD. A re-install of RCv4 solved my issues. I had a corrupted previous install in my old FSX folder that I did not removed when I upgraded my PC hardware and drives.. So thanks again. Dom
  19. After upgraded my PC and performing a clean re-install of FSX and and RCv4 I find that I receive this message referring to "get departure information" when attempting to open a flight plan. All databases have been updated and makerwys has been run with the latest version 4.6.1.4. I created a flight plan in FSC v 9.21 with file path for RCv4 pointed to my Users\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\ location. The .PLN file is there but not the .RC4 file. The entries in r4 and r5 csv appear to be valid, although I do notice that the makerwys text file referred to in an older post in this forum dated November 2010 is not there. Can you offer a solution? Thanks Dom
  20. Thanks for the reply, Mike. My plan is format and install a clean boot drive with a clean install of the OS to accept the new chip set. Then I will return my other 3 drives into the system. One of those drives (labelled as F in the old setup) contain all of the FSX files from the previous install as well as the payware items which I call necessities such as Radar Contact v4, UT Europe, MyTraffic, FSCommander, FSTramp and others. The payware Aerosoft, UK2000 and other assorted sceneries will then be completely reinstalled. So will the Acronis backup or the ISO image I made be of any use in all this or am I creating more problems? Dom
  21. I have recently upgraded my existing PC with the following MB and Processor: INTEL, Core i7-3770 Quad-Core 3.4 - 3.9GHz TB, HD Graphics 4000, LGA1155, 8MB L3 Cache, 22nm, 77W, EM64T EIST HT VT-d VT-x XD, Retail ASUS, P8Z77-V Deluxe, LGA1155, Intel Z77, DDR3-2800 (O.C.) 32GB /4, PCIe x16 SLI CF /1+1*, SATA 6Gb/s RAID 5 /4, 3Gb/s /4, DP + HDMI, USB 3.0 /8, HDA, GbLAN /2, Wi-Fi + BT, ATX, Retail I am retaining my graphics card, memory and hard drives. As this will require a clean reinstall of W7-64 bit OS my question is this: I have an acronis backup of my entire FSX files on an external drive and have the prior FSX residing on my other internal drive which I plan to introduce back into the system. I also have an ISO image of the prior "C" drive as well as the drive itself which I planned to keep as a backup until all has been installed,. Can any of this be used to restore FSX? I am prepared for the worst. Thanks Dom
  22. I will be upgrading the major components to my FSX system and would solicit your comments/opinions. I will change the motherboard to either an (A) ASUS, P8Z77-V, LGA1155, Intel Z77, DDR3-2600 (O.C.) 32GB /4, PCIe x16 SLI CF /1+1*, SATA 6Gb/s RAID 5 /4, 3Gb/s /4, DP + HDMI + DVI + VGA, USB 3.0 /6, HDA, Wi-Fi, GbLAN, ATX, Retail Or (B)ASUS, P8Z77-V Deluxe, LGA1155, Intel Z77, DDR3-2800 (O.C.) 32GB /4, PCIe x16 SLI CF /1+1*, SATA 6Gb/s RAID 5 /4, 3Gb/s /4, DP + HDMI, USB 3.0 /8, HDA, GbLAN /2, Wi-Fi + BT, ATX, Retail Change the processor to an INTEL, Core i7-3770 Quad-Core 3.4 - 3.9GHz TB, HD Graphics 4000, LGA1155, 8MB L3 Cache, 22nm, 77W, EM64T EIST HT VT-d VT-x XD, Retail Change the cooler to a COOLER MASTER, Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler, Socket 1155/1156/1366/775/AM3/AM2, Copper/Aluminum, Retail Retain the ASUS TI-560 graphics card and the memory. I expect to see a performance increase over my current E8500 core duo, and of the two motherboards which will deliver the best results for the foresseable future? Thanks in advance Dom
  23. Thank you all.......This is exactly what I was looking for. I plan to deselect those areas in scenery cfg where I do not fly. I would expect my load times to be somewhat faster. Dom
