  1. >As for your low FPS in 2D you might want to try and add>PanelasTexture=0 in your fs9.cfg file under the display>section.>Dear Mikkel,What exactly will this line (PanelasTexture=0) in the cfg file do?I intend to try it, but I would like to known what I should expect.Regards,
  2. Yes, it happens with me all the time, with my MS Sidewinder FF2. It can cancelled by readjusting the joystick position. The same can be seen with the ailerons, but not so frequently. Again, you can eliminate by centering the joystick.Regards,
  3. Dear Dan,I am glad you managed to see the aurora borealis. In the flight files I sent you (at least in a repetition I tested) the aurora is not seen immediately, but only a couple of minutes after. I set the time at March 21st, as I had read in an encyclopedia that the auroras activity would be higher at the equinoxes. I tried the flight at 15000', but at a higher altitude you might have a better view.Regards,
  4. It is funny to see that many FS users (simmers?, gamers?) claim that it is not a simulator because it lacks modelling accuracy and is not accepted as logtime for IFR.Besides the statements of several real world pilots, who support the concept that FS is a simulator, I would like to stress that the US Navy has been using FS for a long time for initial IFR traning of their pilots. I doubt the Navy would call it a "game". Recently, I think in this same forum, I read that an Israeli aviation company was using FS, in a virtual airline environment, to train their new Boeing pilots in ATC procedures. As a conclusion I would invite you to visit the site:http://www.starksravings.com/linktrainer/linktrainer.htmand say whether you consider the Link Trainer was a true simulator or not. Apart from the (limited) movement it certainly was very far from the FS capabilities. However it was in display in a professional Simulation Conference, sponsored by the military, I attended some years ago in Orlando, US.Regards,
  5. Did you try the flight? Did you succeed in viewing the aurora borealis?Regards,
  6. I am attaching the flight files, so that you can reproduce the situation where the aurora borealis showed upu. I was flying a Flight 1 ATR.I hope you succed with the flight.Best Regards,
  7. I didn't make any screenshots, but I will try to have them in another attempt.Regards,
  8. I was flying all the time at 15000'.Regards,
  9. I did it! At last I managed to see an Aurora Borealis. I tried to fly from Reykiavic, heading North, during the night of the Spring equinox. Nothing happened for a long while. When I reached the 83
  10. Thanks a lot to all who replied to my post. At least now I know for sure they can be seen in FS9. I read in an encyclopedia that their activity is maximum at the equinoxes. From some posts I understand that the latitude has not to be close to the North Pole: Iceland or Alaska will be enough. So I will keep trying!Best Regards,
  11. A friend of mine told me that once, flying at high latitudes, he was able to see an aurora borealis.I set my flight from Tampere, Finland, and flew all the way North, trying to stay on the same meridian (what was not easy). I tried Winter and Summer time, but I did not succeed in seeing anything special other than the daylight that was visible all the time, although for part of the flight it was after 10 p.m. And I flew as much North as FS permitted (89
  12. At least I am not alone! If I get a solution I will certainly let you know.Regards,
  13. Sorry for taking long in acknowledging your suggestion.Yes, I also have had that problem and I solved it in the way indicated by the link. But my current problem is somewhat different: the logbook is found, but the automatic entries when exiting from FS9 are not always registered. Please note that I say not always, because sometimes they are! Manual entries are always kept.Regards.
  14. I have found recently that all my automatic entries to the logbook are lost. Although everything seems to go Ok in the dialogue, no entry is registered, unless I make a "manual" entry. I tried to create a new logbook, but the result is exactly the same. Any ideas about the reason for that?Regards,
  15. In my system it works, but it is very difficult to control by hand. With the forcefeedback it is really very difficult. It has also a high impact on framerate. I reported these issues to the author, but as I said in my previous post he is not available until the end of May.Do you know of any other C-130H, with a panel that can be considered close to the real one? I am not particullarly concerned about a VC.Regards,
  16. Recently I have downloaded and installed the Simshed C-130 C3 from Avsim. When I switch the radar on, the only thing I get is a yellow rectangle. In the panel.cfg file the reference to this gauge is TrafficRadar!Radar.I tried to find it but it is not in my files. I have sent an email to the author but I found in the Simshed web site that he will be out until the end of May.Has anyone else had the same problem? In case someone knows where I can get that gauge from, please let me know.Regards,
  17. Nice thread! It's really nice to see the wide range of ages and activities of those joined by a common interest.I recently turned 65 (last week), I am Portuguese, married with two sons. I am a telecommunications engineer, working in the development of military systems, and also teach applied electronics in an enginnering school. My interest in aviation comes from an early age. My interest in flightsimming started when a former WWII RAF aviator, working as a consultant with the University of Newcastle (UK), showed me his new toy: the FS 5.0.Needless to say that in that same afternoon I went to the local shopping mall and bought myself a copy of FS5.0 and a joystick! All the best for you all.
  18. I would say that, in the first post of this thread, there is the idea that the target user for Microsoft are us, those who read fora like this in Avsim. That would be total disater for us, as instead of selling possibly more that one million worldwide, MS would sell merely no more than some tens of thousand. That would mean that MS would stop producing FS, or would put a tag price that would have exactly the same result: only a few would buy it!So, although I am not particularly fond of MS (in professional terms), I think that they have in this case the right approach: they sell a product that can be purchased by a large number of persons who see it just as one more game, and allow us, the simmers, to have a good basis to build up, with free or commercial add-ons, a marvellous hobby.Domingos
  19. Thank you for your information. I will keep watching the results.Best Regards,
  20. I have recently installed the new 66.93 nVidia driver. I have the slight impression that my frame rate decresed by one or two fps. Has someone tried this new driver? My graphics board is an ASUS V9480 Ti4800 SE.Regards and wishes of a Happy New Year.
  21. Surprise! I had some twenty dummy monitors! I have cleared them, but did not yet perform a restart. I wonder what will be the impact in my installation.Regards,
  22. Hello Bill,Thank you for keeping my expectations intact...Have a nice Christmas!
  23. Of course, you have to be careful when using these tools. However I use periodically either RegClean (Microsoft) or EasyCleaner, both at home and in my work, and never had problems. It should be said that with both tools you are able to restore the original situation in case something goes wrong. It never happened with me.
  24. I am sad to hear that. I always hoped that the Neptune would be a future aircraft to be in the list. Besides my personal feelings for that aircraft (I flew in it many times as a radar technician), I think it is a beautiful and efficient plane that was used in several airforces. Nowadays it is still in use by some firefighting companies in the US.May I hope to see it some time later, if not in FS9 in FSx?Regards,
  25. I have installed SP2 and DirectX 9.0c and the frame rate in my reference flight remained just the same. What about cleaning the registry with one of the tools around? This might help.Regards,
