What time zone are we in right now?
badderjet replied to dobee51's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
There are even smarter smartphones that will allow to set UTC directly. 🍎😬 -
Changing from Inches to millibar?
badderjet replied to Andreas Stangenes's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Well that’s bad news then. Also I totally don’t want to mess with fuel and weight figures in gal/lbs. Totally not. FSX had that switch… that apparently didn’t make it into this version. Definitely needs a fix imho. -
MS Store users can launch it already
badderjet replied to Sethos's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Kam na mauri, does anyone have any experience with pausing/interrupting the download (also pausing, exiting the program, shutting down PC and then resuming etc)? To optimize download speed (didn’t work) I paused, replugged my WiFi antenna into another USB port, resumed and was greeted with a bold red error message saying something unspecific like there was a problem with the download so I started over. Luckily after only the first minute or so. Also, in the Windows settings I changed the drive for new apps to be installed at. However on that very drive I can’t exactly see where the files are going. Any hint? The free space is decreasing but I can’t see where the stuff goes. Other than that, let me say e onrake au kaibuke n te rabono. Ko rab‘a, marurung and tekeraoi. -
Full 787 Flight (8 hours) Heathrow - Dubai
badderjet replied to highflyer2020's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Geez, has this guy ever looked through a HUD? 😱 He's showing the HUD, totally NOT working as it should, and in the very same second says it "does work". Apparently based on the observation that the display appears in front of him. And no, I'm not talking about the colors. The horizon line should be, uhm, on the horizon and STAY there. If it would have this right, bascially the essence of a HUD altogether, I can't see how a FPV is any challenge to implement. The virtual image should be an overlay and superimposed onto the outside landscape, being fixed on it. Which very obviously is exactly not happening here. I guess he sees the virtual image being somewhere in front at some distance, but it's obvious the distance is nowhere near where it should be. I'm left speechless as he comes to his conclusion. 😅 Apart from the fact the image might disappear a lot sooner with these head movements, but I could totally live with that and also wrong colors as long as the most basic stuff was working. 👍 If you don't have access to a HUD or don't know what I'm talking about, there's also footage on YT but usually w/o the head movements. But they still show how the image should project on the outside view. Edit: He shows it again at around 2:29:20 and once again states it's "fully accurate" as he moves the camera around... unbelivable 🙈🙈 Rant over. 🤣 -
I couldn't. And I can't d/l on day 1 anway, since I'll be gone until the weekend haha. Maybe the big initial rush has settled by then, to see the positive side. 😂

Thanks, I understand what you're saying about the creation of such conditions. Let me say that I have seen some people adjust the aerosols and they didn't exactly have a huge effect, but also I have yet to see someone play with them when there is a cloud layer on the ground as you say. Yes, I "desperately" want a certain vis or RVR, just as it is possible to set in any FFS. That's why it's incredibly basic, not because it's technical background is. Aerodynamics and weather in general are also massively complex and they are both modelled in impressive depth. So I'm sorry to ask for such functionality in a sim that calls itself a flight sim. It's irrelevant if you know the decision due to the conditions before you reach the minima, there is a lot of IFR training being done where you know the exact conditions beforehand (and hence your decision, maybe). That's not the point. Setting these conditions up like you suggest might very well be a possible solution for Tuesday and after that, but is nothing more than a workaround. And no, among the incredible amount of footage popping up mainly dealing with the eye-candy I have not seen any video that shows proper LVO conditions at all. Not even for the fun of it. Oh and while I'm no engineer I'm pretty sure I'm not underestimating the complexity at all, or any other part of their meteogological simulation. In fact even the FSX dev's posted an article about it back then and why it wasn't done properly and just in the way we know. Furthermore up to this day I'm not really sure if airport lighting systems will have an actual effect on RVR as they should. So far I can't really tell from the videos. I doubt it but I'll see next week. Edit: Forgot to point out (once again...) that it was not me who advertised exactly these features ("precise ceilings and RVR"). So again, just pointing out lack of functionality that was more than clearly advertised as such. No one getting worked up here. Hope this helps.

Flight model in MSFS according to aerosoft
badderjet replied to fogboundturtle's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
That's a good sign then. Cool, sounds promising. Now if their new advanced sound engine also allows individual sounds for each wheel that'd add a lot to the immersion. Especially in large aircraft, where you sit above or even in front of the nosewheel, its touchdown and ground roll sound can be very unique and noticable while you probably don't even hear much of the main gear at all. -
Yes, inset runway lights seem to be direction dependant by default. However in many cases edge lights are omnidirectional irl. The visuals of REILs and rabbits are really poor during daytime just as you say, and their activation schedule is also very off. REILs are active even during daytime quite often, sequenced flashes are mostly not. While or even because there might be no right or wrong way to do this for the entire world, I hope these things will get more flexibility in the future.

Embargo lifts at 8am UK time on Friday
badderjet replied to espent's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Not being a tester, I wonder how exactly do the avionics affect the flight dynamics? What tools are you talking about? If you can't comply with an ATC request you might want to improve your flying skills. From everything I've seen I don't believe the flight model is that broken that you can't comply with whatever request ATC could possibly have. -
What do you think about the translated versions of the simulator? I've seen a few videos that used other than English versions and I feel the overall translation quality has vastly improved over past versions. I still wish they had some more aviation professionals go over the texts and everything, they still say stuff like "runway twenty-one" and use translated terms that are simply inappropriate in the target language when you think about aviation terminology. It would be great if the translated in-game texts were accessible for editing but I'm quite sure that ain't gonna happen. Furthermore I believe there might be a bug in the lessons, the very first audio from the instructor always sounds like an English voice trying to read the translated text (likely the synthesized voice), which results in completely incomprehensible jibber-jabber. Anyone else seen this? After that first audio it seems to play the correct (recorded) translations.

Well, as an update to this topic I asked one of the live streamers to show the weather settings of the release version and unfortunately they did not change. Which means to me there will be no possibility to set up visibility and RVR in any effective way as it was advertised. While the sim in general is amazing, this is propably the biggest single disappointment. It's not that some autopilot function in some aircraft is not working as it should, or some building in some city missing. This is so deep at the core of the simulation and the weather engine that I really don't want to rely on 3PD for such incredibly basic functionality. One that would make this sim an effective tool for IFR training beyond all the eye-candy that we've already got. I surely hope this will be adressed in one of the future sim updates soon enough.

Again, I did not intend to engage in the unnerving tree debate. 😅 I wasn’t talking about the tree itself at all (it’s placement, whatever). I’m talking about the obvious visual artifacts it’s showing.

787 Dreamliner Video from Squirrel

I have no idea. But you could move around with the given controls and see how it behaves. If you had access. Maybe someone will do it. -
787 Dreamliner Video from Squirrel
badderjet replied to MikeT707's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Well yeah but it should look like this no matter if you move your eyepoint. However irl the HUD image will just go away quite quickly if you're not sitting in the right spot. In any way it should be aligned with the outside, and this clearly is not the case. Apart from all the visual imperfections, which I find minor to the actual alignment problems. Which makes me think the virtual image is very likely not where it is supposed to be, like 200' in front of the aircraft or whatever the number is on that type. I could use a colored HUD with thin lines if it was at least working alright. -

See here for example. I don't think he moved his eyepoint though to see more details about the implementation. -

I've seen it on some live stream and it does absolutely not align with the outside view. Really really not. What I couldn't see is if the virtual image appears actually ahead of the aircraft. From what I've seen I'd wonder if it did. But that's fine, there will be 3PDs taking over. -

I haven't (yet) seen this particular video but this HUD is seriously not collimated. uhh 🙄 Well, let's wait for post-release fix then. -
