  1. I spent a good deal of time over the last couple of days answering many forum members who responded to my request for assistance on the problem I was having obtaining the DLC I ordered for Flight via Steam. Tom Allensworth, and another polite gentleman whose name eludes me at the moment, were kind enough to inform me that all of those Emails were going directly to staff instead of to the members they were meant for. That, of course, was my fault for not doing it properly. Nevertheless, the final result was that none of you got the emails I sent to you thanking you for responding. By you providing a lot of valuable info, tips, and links, I was able to formulate a plan that did result in getting the bundle I ordered. It is now on board and working. So, if you don't mind, instead of trying to resend all of the individual responses to those who assisted me, please allow me to thank you as a group. I do appreciate people taking the time to share their knowledge, and their thoughts and ideas with me. For the record, I did receieve a short Email from Steam but the instructions were brief and not entirely clear to me. But at least they did finally respond. Also for the record, what I did was use Contol Panels to uninstall Flight. Then I launched Steam and managed to find Flight on their site. It doesn't automatically come up in their list of games because it isn't a native Steam game. But by carefully noting the links on the pages you can find some that will allow you to search for it and find it that way. Once found, I saw no way to download it, so I just clicked on the Play button and that did it. Once it was downloaded, all of the purchased items were displayed in a window, along with their keycodes. I was then able to log into Live on the Microsoft Flight site and select Redeem Codes (I think that's what it was called). After entering each code one at a time, all of my content showed up in Flight. Not a nice, clean, intuitive way to do something, but the important thing at this point is that it worked. Although, I'm still not sure why Microsoft brought Steam into the mix. So, thanks again to everyone who responded. Dewey

Tell me, I know either some or most of the tech stuff for Flight due to interactive with devs over Steam and beta forums. Alex Leung Intel Core i5 2500@3.5 GHz (Somehow got it to overclock without exploding) PNY nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti 8 GB RAM 1 TB Hard Drive Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit I shall be your Hadouken for the rest of your life. (From Tf2) Back to top OK, here it is in a nutshell. I launched Flight yesterday. There was a link for purchasing a discounted bundle via Steam. I followed the link. I purchased the bundle. I got confirmation that the sale had been processed and my credit card had been charged. Nothing happened. There was no download, no activation key, no products showed up on my Flight game, nothing. I immediately began seeking help from Steam, and from Microsoft. I spent hours yesterday trying everything I could think of to get the product I paid for, or to get some assistance from Support on one side or the other. I finally came to this forum for ideas because folks are always helpful here. And a few people did try to help me, but I was unable to follow their suggestions or solve the problem. So, I paid for product I did not receieve, and those things happen sometimes. I understand that. But when they do, whoever got the money needs to try help the customer get what I bought. And that doesn't seem to be happening. Thanks, Alex, for your offer to assist me. I hope you can because I'd like to keep the bundle and try to give Flight a fair shake. But if this is an example of the kind of "support" we can expect, it will make me leery of purchasing from them again. In fact, I don't even know who I purchased from. Was it Steam, or Microsoft, or some other third party? And why did Steam get involved anyway? Does anyone know what advantage that might be to the users? But, back to the issue. Can you help me download and activate the bundle I purchased, Alex? Thanks again! Dewey
  3. I'll tell you one thing for sure. If I continue to have the kind of problems I'm having just trying to purchase the Maule, Adventure Pac, P-51 bundle, I will not be purchasing anything else for Flight. In fact, it will leave my hard drive very soon now if someone from Support does not attempt to assist me. I have had some responses from helpful folks on this forum. I generally always do, and I appreciate them very much. But I have not been able to solve the problem using their suggestions so far, so I still need help from Support. I have tried Stream Support, Microsoft Flight Support, and even Microsoft customer service. And no one so far has responded to me. I purchased this pac early this morning, and it's now almost 9PM and still no Support. I suspect I'll be doing a chargeback on my credit card tomorrow morning unless there is a post of some kind in my email that solves the problem. That's too bad. I really wanted to try some of the addons and give this new program a fair judgement. But if I can't get it to work, I suppose that is judgment enough. Anyway, if someone comes us with an idea that helps me I'll appreciate it very much. Right now i have managed to get Flight so show up in my list of Steam games. And it will launch from there. But it does not show that I have any downloadable content for that game. There is another page in Steam that says I have already purchased that content. But did it download, and if so, where is it? Also, I didn't get a code to enter as I was supposed to. I'll quite complaining now and go do something useful. Everyone have a good evening, or night, or day - whichever it is in your part of the world right now. Dewey
  4. Well, I guess I'll ask here since I can't seem to raise anyone on the Steam Support site. I purchased the currently advertised Hawaii bundle that includes the Maule, the P51, and some other things, this morning. Nothing happened other than an email from Steam confirming the purchase. Nothing downloaded, the game doesn't show up in my Steam game library, and I have been unable to get a response from Steam on the issue. Can anyone shed some light on how I might either get my contant downloaded and working, or whom I might call for a refund? Of course, I can always do a chargeback on my credit card, but I had rather get the content downloaded and working, if possible. If anyone has had a similar experience with this and found a solution, I would really appreciate hearing what it was. Thanks! Dewey
  5. The name change also suggests that the area may be smaller than they first intended it to be. A "Trek to Alaska", whether intended or not, leaves the impression of a fairly extensive journey with a lot of scenery to go with it. But, a "wilderness area"?. How large is a wilderness "area"? I used to have a designated "wilderness area" behind my house that was only 40 acres. So maybe my view of a wilderness area is being influenced by that. I surely hope I am wrong in feeling that we are going to be purchasing small chunks of the world for fairly substantial sums of money for a long, long time before we will own even a reasonable percentage of what we got right out of the box in Flight Simulator. As for the Alaska release, my opinion is that it will be here when it gets here and no one knows exactly when that will be. My hope is that when it does get here, it will be READY to be here. Ciao! 6. So, where can I find this "update" that restores the "standard" file? thanks.
  7. I recently edited the "standard" file in my Flight installation to decrease sensitivity of my worn out old joystick. But I now want to return the settings of sensitivity and null to their original settings for a new joystick, and I can't find the notes I took that that listed them. Can someone help me with original settings for ailerons, elevator and rudder for both sensitivity and null? Thanks! Dewey
  8. So far, I just own Pacific Fjords. I was hoping for a bit more mountain scenery and bush type air strips than I'm finding in that package. Maybe I bought the wrong one for those types of sceneries. Still, it's very well done and nice to look at. Also, I was impressed with the friendly and knowledgeable support I received from Orbx during some initilal issues in getting the scenery downloaded, installed and running. Great bunch of guys over there.Does anyone have some suggestions for backwoods bush airstrips in Pacific Fjords?Dewey
  9. I purchased and installed NA Blu. It isn't working properly. So I created an account on the ORBX Forums to seek assistance. The system would not let me log onto my account, so I could not access the ORBX forums. However, it did register my email on the ORBX system. I can't delete my account and start over because I have to log onto my account in order to do that. I can't create a new account because the ORBX system says that my email is already taken. If anyone here has past experience with such things and can give me some advice on how to either get answers from ORBX on the account I just created, or can tell me how to delete it and set up a new one. Thanks to all those who have responded so far. You have all given me good ideas to try.Dewey
  10. Is anyone having trouble getting support from ORBX? I just purchased/installed NA Blu and something isn't working correctly. So I tried to create an account and get some support from their forums, but couldn't successfully create an account. I find no email or phone number for them, so does anyone here know how to reach them to get some help? Thanks!Dewey
  11. I have been reading some forum and blog comments about how great the Icon A-5 created by Andreas Koerner is. Some of the comments allude to two different levels of detail that are available. And, of course, you should should the one that your machine is most capable of running satisfactorily. They show scree shots of both cockpits, and mention that the wings fold and their is a passenger in the more highly detailed model. However, I have been unable to find that highly detailed model. I have downloaded the A-5 from more than one source, and searched the files, but they all install the one without the passenger, folding wings, etc. Can someone guide me to the download containing the most highly detailed model of the A-5?ThanksDewey
  12. I lost a friend recently. His wife said one evening when she was going to bed, her husband said he had just gotten some photo-real scenery for Alaska. He was a big fan of FSX. He said he was going to stay up and take a cross-country flight and enjoy his new scenery. Next morning, she said he wasn't in bed so she went looking for him. She found him sitting in front of his computer with frost all over him, frozen stiff. So take heed, fellow simmers. When it's as real as it gets, be careful with it.Dewey
  13. You are apparently correct, Paul. I am now running "Deluxe" under Win 7 24 bit and it's working great.Dewey
  14. Thank you, Lars. I appreciate the response.
  15. Just a quick question. Will FSX Deluxe run under Windows 7 64 bit? Thanks.Dewey
  16. I saw on a compatibility website that FSX Deluxe is incompatible with 64 bit Windows 7. Is that a fact, and if so, has a fix been found to correct that? Thanks.Dewey
  17. Yes, Paul, it is a typo. It is actually a 2600K. The OS is Windows 7 32 bit (that will change next week). When it runs out of memory, It says that FSX has run out of memory and will have to shut down, which it instantly does.I believe the info you passed on to me concerning the RAM is old history now, Paul. We can use most any combination of RAM nowadays - 2 GB sticks, 4 Gigs, mix and match, whatever we choose. It is no longer necessary to use the matched combinations that used to be required. To Bert Pieke, I do have a 32 bit system, but it will be 64 bits very soon, along with 16 Gigs of RAM. I expect to see some real improvement then. Who knows? I may even be able to max out my Level of Detail Radius once I do that!I'll come back and post the results of the upgrade to 64 bits and 16 Gigs of RAM next week. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to respond to my post. I hope your Thanksgiving was a good one.Dewey
  18. First, I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond/comment on my initial post. Next, I want to let everyone know that I discovered the "holy grail", on my computer, at least. As I had said, I was flying with ALL sliders set on minimum settings and still having pauses and stutters. At least I thought that all of them were set to minimum. I discovered after I began this thread that I had left the Level of Detail Radius slider set to high. I set it to Medium and my frame rates came alive - 100 fps and more. I then began increasing each slider one at a time and monitoring frame rates. I now have ALL sliders maxed out, except for the Level of Detail Radius slider. It is still set to Medium. In extremely dense scenery areas, with the view set to Spot Plane, my frame rates have dropped as low as 20 fps, but still no pauses or stutters. I am a happy camper! For the first time since FS2004 came out, I am able to see what Flight Simulator is supposed to look like, and how it is supposed to perform. Running two monitors slows it down to an average of 25 to 30 fps, and it will go lower in areas such as New York, but still with no stutters or pauses. The highways are full of cars, the airports are bustling with service vehicles and planes, the skies are alive with general aviation planes and airliners, there are boats and ships on the lakes and oceans, dense forests, cities full of buildings of all sizes, and on and on. It is absolutely a whole new world. There is one caviat to all this bliss, however. The computer runs out of memory with all those high scenery settings, and all that air, land and sea traffic. I'm running 6 gigs of RAM. Does anyone know whether or not FSX would use it if I moved up to 8 gigs? I think Windows is limited to how much it can use, so I don't know if would do any good to add more. What do you think?Dewey
  19. I'm simply not going to be satisfied with any sim until we all have to stand in line, suitcase in one hand, shoes in the other, waiting to go through security.
  20. Folks, I'm a little mystified by what's going on. Some time ago I was running a Dell XGS computer with a 3.6 GB Pentium, 2 GB of RAM, and a 7500 rmp hard drive. FSX had some jittery little stutters in turns, and the frame rate slowed a lot in heavily populated areas. But it was enjoyably flyable.I'm now running the ASUS P-67 Sabretooth mobo @ 3.42 Ghz with a core - i7-2600K cpu, 6 GB of fast RAM, and a 10K rmp hard drive. The sim is almost unflyable. The "stutters" are more like pauses. It is almost impossible to line up with the runway, or even fly with any precision at all. I have the sim on a hard drive by itself, and all of the sliders down to minimum. Not much change, if any - long pauses, jittery turns, sometimes locks on pan.Does anyone have any experience with this particular video card, or this set of symptoms who can shed some light on fixing it? I'm just amazed that hardware with this much capability has actually degraded my performance.Thanks.Dewey
  21. I don't see my post from yesterday, so maybe it didn't make it. Thanks for the tweak tool! You've certainly gone the extra mile in trying to help the FS community. The instructions left me with two questions. 1. In a couple of places they say, "set your driver to Let the application decide". Which "driver" are you referring to?2. I downloaded the external frate rate setting tool, but the readme file did not say where to extract it to. Can you enlighten me, please? I will try to get back here now and then to see if you have responded. But if you want to respond to my personal email, that's ok, too. Thanks again! Dewey mecs@mecssoftware.com
  22. If you like the old bipes, you'll enjoy Aces High. Dewey
  23. Thanks for the tool! It left me with 2 questions, however. 1. In a couple of steps, your instructions said to set my driver to application controlled. Which driver? How do I set it to Application Controlled?2. I downloaded the external frame rate setting tool, but I don't know where to extract it? Which folder should I put it in? Thanks! Dewey
  24. Hello to the Avsim FSX Forum. I haven't been here for quite some time. Now that I'm back, I find I could use some of the knowledge that is so prolific in this forum. I had been running FSX on an older 3.6 Ghz Pentium machine with 4 GB of RAM, a standard 7500 rpm hard drive and dual monitors. I got decent performance with the sliders averaging around the "medium" settings. I got some mild stuttering in turns, particularly in high density scenery areas, but all in all, FSX was playable. I just replaced that older computer with a "hot rod" that has an Asus Sabertooth P67 Rev. B3 motherboard, the Intel Corei7-2600 CPU, 6 GB of fast RAM, a Western Digital Raptor 10,000 rpm hard drive, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX560 Ti graphics card. The clock speed of this system is 3.4 Ghz. This computer breezes through 3D games without even breaking a sweat, of course. And then, there's FSX. Surprisingly, it runs so slowly that it's unplayable. I can disable one of the 2 monitors, back all the sliders down to almost 0, use one of the supplied FSX aircraft and get it smooth enough to play it, although it still has the "jitters" in turns. There is something wrong with this picture. I realize that not all of the capabilities of this system actually benefit FSX, but I would certainly expect it to run that program as well, or better than, my older system. Is there a magic bullet I have not discovered, yet, that might keep FSX from bringing this computer to its knees? Are there others out there using the Corei7-2600 CPU and Nvidia GPU that are having similar problems? And, if the Corei7 and Nvidia users are not having those problems, could those users, or anyone else who has some ideas, share their FSX setup with me so I can see what I might be doing wrong? Thanks a lot for whatever help you can give me. I have been out of pocket for quite some time and was looking forward to getting back into FSX. So far, my reintroduction has been a bit disappointing to say the least, but I'm sure there is a workaround somewhere. It's good to be back in the forum. I hope everyone is doing well. Dewey
  25. Has anyone tried the download utility called FSPS - FSX Booster v 2? It's supposed to speed up FSX by analyzing your hardware and tweaking it to run FSX as efficiently as possible. Anyone? Thanks. Dewey
