  1. Hi Guys,

Just ran a six hour flight from KSAN to PHNL. It's nice not having the CTD or OOM (as I would get in that other sim ) after spending so much time setting up and flying the route. Nice to finish off a six hour flight with a dusk descend into PHNL.

    Aloha

I flew that same route last week in my LD 767 with no issues in P3D. But I very rarely had OOM issues with FSX either. But P3D is a very sweet simulator.

Setting up my flight now from NZQN to YMML flying my NX ANZ livery. ^_^  ^_^ ^_^

  2. I bought FTX Global last week but am now rather concerned about installing it again after reading about all the files it changes in FSX.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears as though there is not way to switch between FTX Global and the original FSX textures? There was no option to switch back in the "FTX Central" program.

I installed it on my new SSD after a brand new FSX install and wasn't happy with the results/FPS. There also appeared to be no way to uninstall the product until I found a file on their forums at the weekend? An uninstaller should be packaged within the original program surely?!

So I've now installed FSX afresh AGAIN and everything is running smoothly. Quite worried about FTX Global ruining my new sim experience. Is it any good? Is it worth me losing the default textures for the new ones? I couldn't see much difference on first run.

Feeling as though I've just wasted £60 so would appreciate any reassurance from you if you own FTX Global!

    Thanks

    Adam

Since you still have a fresh copy of FSX installed why don't you make backup copy of your world/textures folder. That way if you want to go back to default you just copy the backup back into original. I always make a copy of the world texture folder and burn it to DVD.

  3. If I have an 4mb AI texture or light file, or 1,33mb which gives a less sharp texture,

I use the DTXBmp Texture manipulator to reduce the texture to DXT3 which is 1mb.

This programme is  from Martin Wright, I only use it to get DTX3.

Only have AI  aircraft at the airport and it works fine in both FS9 & FSX.

Cannot remember where I downloaded it from, check internet.

I do the same  to my bmp files using tool from FSX SDK, however FAIB FSX planes are in dds format

  4. Check the manual for Værnes X, it says something about mesh settings. Don't remember exactly what.

I did check it has setting mesh complexity to 100 and >10 for mesh resolution. It's something conflicting with Norway scenery, because I never had this problem before. Just have the eliminate folder by folder/ file by file.

  5. Bill,

Can you post a pic with the exact location of the bump?

I don't have UT installed, but I think this could be an AFCAD conflict.

    Jose

The speed bump is to the right. It looks like another conflicting scenery is trying to bleed thru. See attachment

  6. Thanks for the tip. I'll try the scanner to see if I can fix the elevation isses around ENVA.

I did fix Bergen by removing the br_ file. It was confirmed by the developer:

"The files should all be marked with br_ or enbr_"

So if anyone has FSDT ENBR, remove the files with br_ or enbr_ from the Airports of Norway Scenery folder for copatability.

    Jose

I see issues outside of the airport, but I can't rule out what you see.

I will see what I can do to fix this and post ASAP.

Great info. I removed all the files with br_ and enbr, but still had double jet ways and buildings. So I tried removing the following files starting with br and now my FSDT airport looks normal.

    brdeice

    brfence

    brsacargo

    brspedi

    brterminal

    brtower

  7. Sorry to bother you guys but I have a Skydrive account,  I click on links, and file folders....they specific where do you want to save the download, when I go to start the download, I get an error and it will not allow me to download.

The error says.....Cannot download this file.  Invalid http server reply:  Details: HHTTP/1.1200 OK....I have no idea what that error means specifically but it sound like I am not connecting to the server for some reason.

    Any ideas?

I think the files have been moved to FlightSim.com

  8. At this point, here is where we stand:

We almost cancelled the release, but at this point we are still moving forward.  We have a few things to 'wrap up' before we provide access for purchase.  Unfortunately those things take a back seat to our 9-5 job (and a few other things like honey-do's etc).  So, we're working on getting a good guide on how to install the gauges into addons put together but it's going to take a little more time because of our over-inflated schedules.

Great news. That's what I wanted to hear. I you need any help to speed up release, please ask.

  9. It took a few minutes but I found the file in NS_II Scenery folder that needs to be removed in order for Aerosoft's ENVA to display properly:

    Remove the file:

    HP_5009_B_2.BGL

I also removed all the ENVA files from the Airports of Norway and the one ground file from AoN_Ground.

Now I can do some flying!

I removed the HP_5009_B2.bgl and still have the speed bump at my ENVA scenery by aerosoft. All else looks fine.

  10. Bill, we may well never see them for FSX or Prepar3D. The last word I had (email) from one of the programmers was that they were rethinking their plan to release for casual simmer use...

Disappointing I was looking forward to the Garmin's for FSX and P3d. I wish they would re think. They'll be surprised the amount of support they'll get. And from those of us waiting to purchase. We're not a minority.

Since Reality XP support is no longer around, I was really looking forward to Mindstar stepping up and taking over. Come guys your the future now....Don't be timid. Step up and lets do this...

  11. Airports of Norway is SO amazing! But I originally just downloaded the airports and mesh without the photopak. Now it seems the photopack isn't available from skydrive anymore? Only place I'm seeing it listed is flightsim.com but it's showing an abysmal 7 hour download(!). Is there any other link available?

    Thanks!

    Alex

Unfortunately I don't think so. It took me about 4 or5 hours to download. But it's well worth it.

  12. UPDATE:

After testing on my system with Windows 7, I have confirmed that this is the location of the scenery.cfg file which is safe to modify in Prepar3D ver.1.4:

    C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D

Any changes to this file are reflected in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D\scenery.cfg

Do not modify the file at this location

    DEFAULT FILE:

Path to Default scenery.cfg file (this file should NOT be modified):

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D

This contains the default Areas 001-126 (before any addons are added)

This default scenery.cfg file is also present in the following folders (and these also should NOT be modified):

    C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Application Data\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D

    C:\Users\(user name here)\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D

    *   After confirming the above I restored the default scenery.cfg file to the relevant folders.

** Removing the spaces either side of the '=' in the Earth Simulations entries fixed the problem noted in the Prepar3D Scenery library. All titles are now present and the layers/priorities are all being displayed correctly. No reinstall of Prepar3D required :)

Thanks again to Bill McIntyre (Bigmack) for his help. Sorry I didn't use your first name in previous posts, Bill. I was accessing Avsim on my iPad using Tapatalk and it doesn't display everything.

    Mike

I apologize if I came off snippy to you. Was not my intent. Just saying it's your system, you do what's best for you.

I'm willing to help you any way I can. We're in this all together...

  13. When LM made that post on the scenery file location may have been on version 1. We're now at V1.4 and a lot have changed since then.

LM scenery cfg location now operates basically same as FSX so add-ons can be installed and modified the same.

All major  scenery developers uses the scenery cfg in the programs data folder to make their edits. (Aerosoft, FTX, Addit pro, etc). Even the FSX to P3D migration tool uses program data cfg.

If you use FTX sceneries the insertion tool uses the scenery file in the programs data folder. I just install and modified the Norway enhancement scenery in P3D, using the programs data cfg, started up P3D, selected the scenery library from the world menu, and all my edits and location changes were there. Even though their not in the root or app data scenery cfg's.

But your system you can do as you wish. The question you ask was answered.

  14. The scenery cfg in the base of P3D should never be touch or edited by you. It's for starting up P3D. The one in the app data folder is for reference only for scenery that uses and requires xml entries. When you install a add on scenery or want to edit the scenery location number or priority order the one in the program data folder is used.

I learned this from LM and my own bad experience editing the scenery cfg's in the root folder and the app data location. Which caused me to have to do a complete reinstall of P3D because my root folder or app data cfg became corrupt from editing.

  15. The scenery.cfg file located in the root Prepar3D folder is a "template" file that is only used once when starting Prepar3D for the first time.

On my flightsim test computer (Win7) the path to the "working copy" of the scenery.cfg file is located here:

    ..\Users\Bill\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D

This is the copy that is modified via the Scenery Library UI, and is the one that you may "hand edit" - very carefully of course!...

Nota bene: the path cited by Computer Pilot would be that used by Windows Vista, IIRC.

The P3D scenery file that is used to edit new add on scenery is located in the C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D. Do not use the in the app data folder under any circumstances other than to view. You can use a scenery editor program to make changes to the one I listed above.
