  1. One of the most useful posts I have seen. I have just built a new PC and done a clean install. Installed that thing that reduces CD ware and did a test flight. Installed the update and another test flight. Frame rates are definitely better. Installation took about two minutes.
  2. Many thanks for your thoughts. The reason I chose the 3700 is because the cache is larger than on the 939 pin chips, except for the FX53 of course. Cache size seems to have more effect on performance than dual channel memory. My Centrino 2Ghz laptop has 2Mb of cache and performs better than my desk top (both 9700 graphics). Also by the time I want to upgrade again AMD will have PCI express.RegardsHoward
  3. Just to give a different perspective. I purchased the PSS when it first came out and learnt a great deal about the 'buses from it. In its favour is good documentation, 2d cockpit and gauges. The A320PIC has no 2D panel and certainly has a heavy processor demand. In its favour are an excellent 3D cockpit, a fair attempt at proper fly by wire, very comprehensive systems modelling and failures (including ecam messages, working fire buttons etc). Some good visual updates have been provided by others. It has several bugs in the systems. Support from the forum seems to be well hidden. After reading and digesting the real Airbus documenation, in my opinion the PSS gives about 50% of a real bus and PIC is maybe 65%. The Boeings available from various developers seem to be much closer to the real thing. SSW are/were developing an A320 - not sure where that has progressed to.RegardsHoward
  4. Hi,I am just considering a system upgrade(in anticipation of PMDG747/Level D 767/Flight1 ATR):Existing: Pentium 3.06 533 at 3.2 with ATI9700 Pro and 1GB DDR266.Proposed: Athlon 64 3700 (1MB L3 Cache) ATI X800XT and 1GB DDR400.Will there be a substantial performance increase? Should I go to Athlon 3800 with dual channel memory.Guidance appreciated.RegardsHoward
  5. It nust be disconnected 'cos the scale on the column behind is in the correct place. (Not part of the beta testing is it?)RegardsHoward
  6. This does indeed work (although the frame rate collapses for me but I think it is a driver issue). Would it be possible (for the 747)to do what was done on A320PIC - that is the gauges pop up in windowed mode automatically when you click them even if the main panel is in full screen mode? You can just drag them across to the second monitor and they remain there (or wherever you put them) next time you start FS2004 with that aircraft. The gauges look impressive and performance is also good.regardsHoward
  7. An A330 if you can do 90% of the functionality otherwise a 777.regardsHoward
  8. Hello Tom,I have been reading and digesting an interesting document called Flight Dynamics For Microsoft Flight Simulator. You may be familiar with it.:-)Regarding the original post the aircraft in question is an A340. It appears that if I drift off the localiser due to a 5 knot cross wind the later I leave correction the more prominent the problem becomes until it is impossible to make the required correction. The other issue is that it seems to be impossible maintain a reasonable approach attitude through the full weight range with full flaps. I get a pitch of +3 degrees at max lw and -1 min lw using the fs autoland. I guess manual trim is the only solution.Your thoughts appreciated.Regards.

  10. Sorry double post. First there was none then there were two!!Howard
  11. I would appreciate some advice as an airfile amateur.I have noticed one or two aircraft seem to yaw around their center of mass while the mass tends to continue in a straight line. This is particularly obvious on approach (and probably due in part to my poor technique)when I want to steer back to the localiser - the nose will point in the direction I require but the mass carries on.Any advice on which table(s) should be adjusted to reduce that tendency? Many thanksHoward
  12. Randy,Try a search for Command Speed Limiting. Does that refer to it?Back to the buses.:)RegardsHoward Isaacs
  13. Are the fans no longer changing speed because they are permanently running fast? Inspect the heatsinks. Mine were full of dust.RegardsHoward
  14. Stop teasing, send the aircraft and fix the bugs later. I promise not to complain!!:-) RegardsHoward Isaacs
  15. 1)Any PMDG heavies2)Any accurate A3303)Any accurate 777RegardsHoward
  16. Thanks for the info. It was ok with Winzip. Ive seen a few mentions around the forums about the gauge not loading. It will not load for me. I checked the date and it is the 15th Nov 03 version 2.2.0.9. Finally the FS sound.dll will not immediately load either. Any thoughts appreciated.Regards
  17. I tried to download it several times. I get either corrupt file of unknown compression method messages and the installation text file cannot be opened. The Avsim File library text file in the same zip is readable.Regards
  18. Hi,Just a note to say that with the airfile mod this aircraft is superb. For me, it is probably the best ever.Cant' wait for the other 737's and the 747:9 Regards to the teamHoward Isaacs
  19. I reinstalled xp on a formatted partition a few days ago and FS9 on another formated partiton. Having done some experiments I can guarantee CTD everytime by going to any of 3 (I only tried 3) different UK add on airports in default aircraft, sitting on the ground and calling the map dialogue. 100% repeatable. Does not happen at default airports. Time of year - summer!Immediately afterwards my firewall show that the direct X diagnostic tool is demanding internet access.Running xp pro with sp1 + updates, dx9b, 9700pro 3.9 drivers (I will try 3.10 s),Intel 3.06 chip + Ultimate traffic, Active camera, FS Nav, latest FSUIPC.Regards
  20. Maybe it is a daft idea but have you tried older ATI drivers. I went back to 3.9's from 3.10 'cos the multimonitor support did not seem to work properly. Maybe it will cure other problems. Worth experimenting.Regards
  21. For me, unflyable at the moment and the graphics in 2d don't appear to be clear.
  22. Hi,Three manuals are available from their website. Looks very comprehensive. No Holds in FMGS yet and no mention of virtual cockpit. Otherwise seems to have a massive amount of functionality.Happy Xmas
  23. I have had awful problems with installation. 1.2 worked okay after the registry tweaking. Installed 1.3 after registry clean. .dll message at start up of FS - do I want to load this module? Yes and FS starts. Load A310 but says my key is invalid. Uninstall and re -install. Install FS9 .dll and panel config files (are we supposed to Mike?) Restart and reload panel. Key invalid. Accept three error messages and panel loads anyway. Unable to display MCDU. Change to full screen mode on dual monitors. Second monitor locks up. Close FS9 and it hangs. Give up and go to bed.I have had no response to the forum sign up. Await PSS patch, PICA320 patch etc. etc.Back to Boeing perhaps.
  24. He did make a brief visit to the 767PIC forum a while ago (around last December). Try a search.
