  1. This sounds great Ron. Unfortunately I've got another appointment today otherwise I'd join you guys on today's Nepal flight with it. Ted
  2. If your priority is more realistic aircraft flight dynamics and systems simulation get P3D. If your priority is more realistic scenery representation to go sight seeing and exploring get MSFS. If you want both, get both. Simple as that. Ted
  3. Bryan, I am in the same boat. I am flying on a system I built in 2013 on windows 7 pro. I have all the parts to build a new system sitting in a box but I do not have the time to build it ( quick and easy) and install/configure all the software ( nightmare and enormous time requirements to research and get it correct, secure, and private). I probably won't get around to it until I get homebound in a blizzard this winter. My current system starts and works fine every time I use it due to being windows 7 but also due to this OS I can not install P3Dv5 nor MSFS. Like you I only update software when I need to or want a new feature. My intent is to keep FSX and P3Dv4.5 on my old system as a reliable backup for when my new box with windows 10 throws me a curve ball and I don't have the time/desire to deal with it and just want a quick flight. So my suggestion to you for apparent budget concerns is to dual boot your current system with windows 10 then you can dabble with P3Dv5 and/or MSFS if you so desire in the depths of winter. Build a new system if/when you have the funds/desire. Ted
  4. I'm sure a tweet was sent...... I hope I didn't cross the political line here. Ted
  5. The entire airline industry is hurting due to a fear of catching covid from flying and this news does not help matters. I would not expect the CAA to go easy on this chap and instead make an example of him to firmly discourage this activity. Ted
  6. That sounds like a good choice. Plenty of aviation history there, a great aviation museum nearby, and lots of other things to do with the bonus of the beaches to interest the wife/other and the kids. Ted
  7. This explains why the light GA aircraft work relatively well. The autopilots will be fixed after he gets his IFR rating and the airliners after he gets his ATP rating. Be patient boys and girls. Ted
  8. Dean, Thanks for coming to Avsim and providing your clarifications, design philosophies, and thoughts regarding your Concorde. I have a lot of respect and appreciation for developers that communicate professionally with the community as you have done. I wish more would do that. I personally prefer study level sims as I enjoy learning about the systems in the real aircraft but I understand that most others do not want to have to read a manual in order to complete a flight. I am glad to hear that your sales seem to be going well and I wish you the best of luck with your Concorde. Ted
  9. Fun flight and great shots. I'm glad you got a shot of Monroe Cub's good side Roman. 😃 After the flight I went back and kept practicing on that sand bar landing until I got it. Ted
  10. I gave it the old college try. The Zenith is for P3Dv4.5. I tried it with both the high and low resolution textures but it would not appear in the P3Dv3. So it is back to Old Yeller, the A2A piper cub, unless I find a more appealing paint for it. Ted
  11. Thanks guys. I'd better get the Zenith otherwise if I win any landing challenges you'll be saying it is my A2A plane. With the Zenith I have the excuse that I'm not familiar with the plane.
  12. Thanks and good to hear. I won't get lost in the crowd with my yellow bird either. 🐤
  13. Am I going to be able to keep up with team Zenith in the A2A Piper Cub or do I need to rent the Maule instead? Ted
  14. Very interesting thread. On the original topic of hydrogen fueled gas turbines. They are not emissions free. They do not have carbon in their exhausts but they do produce more Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) then a natural gas turbine. You don't see those marketing articles clarifying this. Most of the hydrogen fueled car research is with fuel cells, not gas turbines, for this and safety reasons already mentioned in this thread. You don't need to pressurize the hydrogen to as high a pressure for a fuel cell as you do for a gas turbine and due to the lower operational temperatures of the fuel cells you do not have the NOx generation. I expect that renewable powered aircraft will develop the same way renewable energy cars have. First hybrid propulsion and then after the battery technology improves all electric. Aircraft flights usually only need full power for the climb, reduced power for cruise, and minimal for the descent. When I was still flying the only reason I didn't cut the power completely on the descent was to prevent shock cooling of the engine. With a hybrid you could cruise at a higher altitude longer and then recharge the batteries on the descent using wind power instead of spoilers, flaps, and landing gear to control your speed. Ted
  15. Stunning detail in this. No wonder it takes a year to make an airport. Ted
  16. I agree that it was focused on the appearance of the planes except for the one test pilot's comment. I do like the enthusiasm that the Textron staff has for the new sim and the fact that the test pilot has been flying MSFS since 1995. I just hope he got on the phone with Asobo after the release and said "What the heck the happened? We can't have our name on planes functioning like those from FS95. Let's get these right." Ted
  17. I agree with you but I am surprised that Textron released that video about how realistic the planes are considering how the current issues with them. I would love to see an interview with Textron and Asobo about the plans for the flight characteristics and systems programming of the default aircraft. I know that Asobo is not intending to produce aircraft with complex systems but the current ones have serious basic issues. I just hope they intend to make them functionally better than the default FSX planes with regards to the systems and flight characteristics. Ted
  18. How do you get the version with the planes that fly like the real things that those Textron engineers have? Ted
  19. MSFS??? I didn't read the route description thoroughly (as usual) and assumed this was a P3D flight. Turns out just about all of these airports are part of the ORBX freeware pack and since I have never flown in this area I am going to fly it in P3D anyway. I don't think we can join with JoinFs but I will get on Teamspeak. I want to hear you guys cursing at your avionics, FDEs, and autopilots as I enjoy the autumn colors in my A2A Comanche. Ted mumbles under breath (I gotta get that new computer built)
  20. After reading this thread I assumed it was a typo for Horrormeter. 🤠
  21. I really enjoyed that flight Jeff. I never got the time to practice in advance so I assumed it was going to be a crash party for me. I was quite pleased to make it home safely and a lot of that credit goes to Mike for the inflight instructional videos. Nice shots Roman, especially the "Bat out of Haddes" Mad Dog departures. Ted
  22. No Problem: 1. Control-E 2. Full throttles 3. Follow Jeff. Sounds like another Milford Sound but with high winds and possible hostile fire for a fireworks like Grand Finale while trying to keep everything working in the Q400...... Thanks for the heads up Mike. I think I'd better practice this one in advance.
  23. For those of you that don't own these payware airports and don't want to invest in new scenery now due to the infatuation with the awesomeness and perfection of MSFS there is an alternative. The Avsim library has all of these airports. They are for FSX so may not work in P3Dv3,4,or 5. I intend to try them tomorrow in P3Dv3 and will post my results. I can't help you with proper operational technique for the Q400 but having nicer scenery than default may alleviate the pain somewhat when you crash. Ted
  24. Thanks for that reply Bob. It sounds like things have not changed much with the new hardware as I do the same with my old system, albeit at much lower settings overall than you can probably operate with. I apologize for the late response. I got tied up yesterday getting the house and yard ready for the onslaught of sudden winter. Ted
  25. Bob, On your system is this a limitation of the CPU, GPU, motherboard, or a combination of all of the above? I'm just curious where the bottleneck is on the latest Gen systems. Ted
