  1. Question: When going around, your speed quickly approaches flap 30 limits if applying too much thrust. How is a go around done to balance speed and getting the flaps retracted - I assume back to 5 degrees???
  2. I am going. I want to see what products are out there and heckle Robert.
  3. On the flight control page of the 777, when you turn the yoke do you see movement? If no Go to the calibration page in FSX or Windows and see if the yoke is responding. If yes, you may need to re-check your assignments, if assignments are good, and no response in calibration, you may need a new yoke. What yoke are you using. I just replaced my FLYpfc (VMAX) yoke with a GoFly 737 yoke. The FLYpfc yoke had problems going full right all of a sudden. I replaced the potentiometer, and still the same problem. I move the yoke to another computer without FSX or any periphials and in the calibration page in Windows, it jumped full right also. Called FYLpfc up and said it was toast and not worth repairing (10 years old - $1,000 purchased, probably a $400 repair with shipment). They thuoght I'd buy another one from them. I went toGoFlight and the 737 yoke is around $600- if you ask for the 15% discount).
  4. I bet LD will release the 757 any day now. I wonder what is the next Boeing plane. Is there a 797 in the works? Someone could claim it and hopefully the sim could be out when the real plane comes out. I think I'll start a company and make the 797 - so no one else dare compete with me - I'm first.
  5. Today I bought a GoFlight Yoke and in speaking with them I learned about the FlightSimCon 2015 in Connecticut June 13 and 14 (GoGlight will be there). Strange how I am always on the boards and never heard about it until now. Am I the only one who doesn't know about this?? What else am I missing? Robert Randazzo is scheduled to give a PMDG update there? Was I in a coma for the last year? I live in Long Island, so it's a 2 hour ride. Count me in - or am I dreaming? Anyone attending??
  6. He (topic starter) is talking about the vapor funnel into the right engine - no the shaking of the stabilizer. This plane seemed to be under a test with wheels chocked and engines cranked fairly high.
  7. I have done much testing on this. I bet it only happens during landings where threshold is very close to water. As said above, it can be resolved by setting mesh texture to 30.
  8. I am a long time user the the PMDG 777 and I am not a pilot so please try to help me out with long time problem. I know this should be an easy explaination - yet I can't fiind the answer on the forums. On an ILS approach that I am hand flying, I have the glide slope and localizer captured. I hit the APP button to to get the flight director to guide me. I notice that the flight director is in disagrement with the glideslope - If I use the FD - I'll crash - If I use the glide slope/localizer ticks I am right on. I know the APP is active as the greenlight on APP is lit and the magenta direction "thingy" sweeps to match the runway direction. What am I doing wrong? Now if I set up an autoland the FD is perfect. If I then turn A/P and hand fly it with APP still selected the FD is then perfect. Maybe that's the solution? (for the last 3 years - I simply ignored the flight director) - but when I flew the 777 full motion sim, the flight director made it much easier to do an ILS approach with low visibility.
  9. OK, thanks,I noticed tis happens when I am the dangerous yellow zone on the speed tape, it also happens if I am doing a quick flight and never set up the V#'s on the FMC.
  10. I am trying to see if I have a yoke problem or it is just the way the 777 works. When I am getting low on an approach and very slow (I know bad pilot Pauly), if I pull back the yoke to climb, the elevators go only a fraction past neutral (per the flight control display). It is not until I gain speed will it give me full motion. Similarly, sometimes I go into a steep climb and I am jamming the yoke forward to level off, but I don't get any input past neutral for 10-15 seconds (thus I am 3 - 5000 feet above what I want -It was similar of the recent A320 accident where the pilot suddenly climbed at 60000 ft/min then stalled). This only happens when I get sloppy. Normally the yoke input allow for full range of elevator motion. Does the 777 restrict the output to keep it inside the safe flying parameters? or does my yoke need to be replace? or do I need more training?
  11. As I posted before, I installed a 1 TB SSD. Windows 7, FSX, REX, ASN, 4 Fly Tampa airports + 3 other add on airports, all the PMDG airplanes = 105 Gb. So the 500 Gb is plenty if you are using this for FSX only.
  12. I just got my computer back. My 120 Gb SSD had Win 7 plus FSX on it and was 105 Gb filled - almost maxed out. I had a 1 TB SSD installed and the 120 Gb contents were cloned over to the new drive. Everything seems to work perfectly. Now I can add more scenery and the new 787 (when it comes out).
  13. I have a very basic question. Is upgrading from FSX to FSX:SE worth it? After looking as Youtube videos and reading up on this - I am a bit confused (I never heard of FSX:SE until a few days ago)., I see the major difference id with multi-play. If I don't use multi-play in FSX, it is worth upgrading - and I am not talking about money - Does FSX:SE offer better graphics? frame rates? I still don't see the advantage.
  14. Since we are on the topic of removing, I'd love to remove the center window support piece (whatever you call it) and the left seat. I found the perfect view, but it puts me behind the left seat and that actually blocks clickable buttons and switches.
  15. That comes out to $40 a click. I paid $200 to install the SSD and clone the HD. He had the computer for 4 days now. He supplied the Acronis software. I know I over paid, but FSX means so much to me and I am not too computer savvy to do it on my own. I really I wish I knew a big FSX user/ pilot with exceptional computer skills in Long Island. 16. I have a computer totally dedicated to FSX. Windows 7 and FSX (along with all the add ons) are on the 120 GB SSD. It is almost full. I bought a 1 TB SSD and having the 120 GB cloned (using Acronis software) to the new 1 TB. I am paying some computer guru to install the new SSD and do the cloning. Prior to this everything was / is perfect using the 120 SSD - but I was running out of space to add more airports. Do you think everything will just work as perfectly as before? I will keep the 120 GB SSD installed and just boot to the 1 TB SSD and use it. It has a 540 Mb/sec read rate compared to the 1st gen SSD of 100 Mb/sec. I doubt the faster speed will translate to better performance, but I just want everything to work without re-configuring all me peripherals, liveries etc. Any insight?
  17. After long hours getting most things back to order - I have 1 serious issue. I have Throttletek throttles with reverse levers. It appears that now idle is actually 2" of the full 5 inches motion in the throttles. Any action down from the 2" point sends the engines into reverse. I need to move the throttles back to almost the 2" position to get it back to idle. I also have a PFC throttles (old but still good). They work fine and don't have this problem. The key is to get the throttles to idle at zero position. They are calibrated and show -16,200 to + 16,200 for the full range of motion. Again newest registered version FSUIPC. How do I get engines to idle at throttle idle position?
  18. I have the Throttletek throttles, PFC yoke and Saitek rudder pedals. For 4 years they worked perfectly. Then yesterday, something went wrong. When I turn the yoke, the left engine's power increased, when I advanced the throttles, the reverse thruster activated, Everything is so wacked out I spent 3 hours trying to re-configure axis in FSX and make sure they were properly assigned. I think they are good now. But yoke only allows me left turns (may be a hardware issue), but throttles just give me wacky control. Their calibration and set up in FSUIPC look perfect. I get stable and full range of motion on throttles calibration page. Any ideas of how to proceed?
  19. Here is what I mean by closing FSX down slowly. I have the FMC window opened, the overhead panel, ASN also. Once I am ready to exit FSX, I can exit quickly by hitting Flight > Exit > Yes in one second OR what works for me is Closing down the FMC, wait 3 secs, close down overhead panel, wait 3 secs, close down ASN, wait 3 secs go to Flight, wait 3 secs, click on exit and wait a few secs then exit. That is what I meant be closing down slowly. If I start closing everything like a mad man, I get the fatal error crash. If I am patient as above, I never get a crash. So this works for me - I am not sure if others find the same results.
  20. The only time I get this error is when I shut down FSX too fast. When I am ready to shut down, I close all open windows slowly, make sure I am not in replay mode. I let FSX settle down and am not moving. Then proceed SLOWLY on each step to shut down, pausing a few seconds on each shut down step. I get 100% success. If I start shutting down fsx too fast I will get that dreaded error about 25% of the time.
  21. I just came back from Italy on a 767. I was wondering over the Atlantic do the pilots have contact with ATC by voice by radios? Or is communication with ATC through another manner? Due to strong head winds, the flight took a more southerly route - and only at FL280. One more question: I pulled up the weather chart and it showed strong westerly winds over the north Atlantic - that's why we went south - but I could not find wind data at different altitudes. I see the wind aloft data on flights over land, but where can I view current winds (at different altitudes) over the Atlantic Ocean? Is this info free or do I need to subscribe to it? I'd love to see a recent wind weather report. The entire flight yesterday from Italy to JFK was with cloud cover. I never saw the ground in 8.5 hours - that was odd - but radar maps of clouds indeed sowed the whole north Atlantic with cloud cover.
  22. If he buys a larger SSD, can he clone all the stuff on the old SSD on the new one and not have re- to install FSX, al the PMDG planes, FSUIPC, REX, ASN etc?
  23. Didn't LevelD fold up and is no longer in business? Their web site was not updated since the Triassic period. But I still fly the LD767 and love it.
  24. Let me pose a follow up question to this old - re-occurring topic. Say if you mastered the PMDG 737 or 777, then went to a flight school and took a LEVEL D 777 simulator -cold dark cockpit at the gate and set up the cockpit, taxied to the runway and did a complete flight (hand flying no auto pilot) - the entire 45 minute flight form KJFK to KBOS and landing with 1/2 mile visibility, 400 ft ceiling at RWY 4R and stick the landing - then can you land the real thing??? - no help from the instructor either. That is what I did on the 737, 767, 747 and 777 many times. I also did difficult approached like KLGA Expressway Visual 31 and KJFK 13L Canarsie approach and nailed the landing every time. Does that change your answer to yes - I can land the real thing? Keep in mind I never flew for real.
  25. I know nothing about P3D. I watched several Youtube videos on it and to me it all looks the same. My question is. If I am running FSX, with so many the addons like many FlyTampa airports, PMDG 737, 747, 777, FSUIPC, REX, Ultimate Traffic, ASN, SB4 for Vatsim, on and on, is it really worth it so start an entire new platform with P3D?? What does P3D have over FSX now? Can you use P3D for Vatsim flights?
