  1. Hi Guys,Again thanks for the much needed assistance.Problem is Jon, back at the first posting it was all AOK. It was only after that I started moving stuff around. How about you share the credit with Andre 50/50 :-lol Maybe now I will be able to get back to work on some stuff.Cheers.Bruce H
  2. Good one Andre,Well done!:-jumpy Cheers :-wave Bruce H
  3. Hi folks,Problem solved, thanks Andre and all those who helped out.The problem was the path setting in region.cfg as suggested by Andre. In retrospect I'm not sure what happened, because I didn't start moving things around until after the problem occurred. And I had actually changed the path setting at the time. But then for some reason I commented it out *:-* (doh). I think the original problem was fixed with a complete system rebuild. Unfortunately by then I lost the artificial horizon and didn't know which way was up. :-roll So here we have approach to Gold Coast (YBCG) with reasonable scenery.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/176642.jpgAnd Lismore (YLIS)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/176644.jpgThanks all.....Bruce H (doh) :-wave
  4. Thanks Andre & Jon,A few suggestions there I will double check on this evening. It's probably something completely DUMB that I have done..:-roll Or a combination of dumb things. Sigh....Will let you know.Jon, the S6 is looking good.Cheers :-wave Bruce H
  5. Hi Captain,Thanks for the suggestions. FLED seems to have come good after a clean out of the registry and reinstall.BUT... I am still struggling with getting hi res scenery during flight. It seems that FU is defaulting to level 4/5 as the highest LOD. Even FLED is refusing to show higher levels, and I am convinced the problems are related.I have tried a different video card altogether with no aliasing, ansitropic settings etc. Same problem.:-hmmmI am about to try and run it on another computer altogether, now that I have about completed rebuilding my normal system after a meltdown. The following shot is the start up top down view when editing an airport. Pretty blocky eh?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/176496.jpgCheersBruce H
  6. Ah, yes captain... gone awfully quiet out there.I hope young Grover hangs in there, he obviously has plenty of talent.CheersBruce H
  7. HI Jon,Yep, I ended up with a total rebuild (which was desperately needed anyway, 15 minute startups are not good :-( )The FLED issue was resolved after cleaning the registry properly, and then doing a full install. But I still have the same problem with the graphics, even after the rebuild. So I have to look a little further when I can get the time.If you could send me a copy of your flt3.cfg file it would be great, although the problem persisted even with the "out of the box" config file. Grrrrr..........:-mad Tilindex has been rebuild, I plan to regenerate all my scenery. Although I am going to try copying my existing scenery files into a virgin sanfran region and see what happens first.Watch this space..Cheers :-wave Bruce H
  8. HI Jon,I would have replied earlier, but my 'pewter stalled, crashed and burned, and I am still salvaging it. Technology, sigh........:( Thought I'd better tap in from work and see what's happening. But it's great work, and a great shot. The Stemme looks great, weather realistically ugly, even the night lights look good (If I am allowed to say so).Crazy? Well, maybe borderline. Don't tell anyone but occasionally I turn out the lights and fly in the dark :-lol . Problem is I can't find the bleeding keyboard. My wife walks past shaking her head and mumbling something under her breath. I'm sure it's something positive tho.I wonder if I could get a copy of your flt3.cfg file? My one is cr*p I'm sure.See you,Bruce H
  9. Thanks guys,I've tried most of the ideas suggested short of reformatting. I am convinced that it is a registry issue, particularly if the FLED problem is another symptom of the same problem. So I plan to get a proper uninstaller, uninstall (again), check the XP registry for entries, and install onto a different HDD if necessary.:-hmmm I noticed that the FLED problem has been reported on before, way back in the spring of '03, and was resolved as a registry issue, I'm not sure on what OS.So... watch this space.CheersBruce H:-wave
  10. HI again,Now here's a blast from the past. This is exactly the problem I have with FLED.I wonder what the other symptoms of the disease were? Now if only I can fix it...:-hmmm CheersBruce
  11. Thanks Jon,But no.... checked all of that. :( Another curious thing tho which I think has occurred at the same time is that Fled has stopped working (properly). When you fire it up, regardless of which region you edit, the main window displays the zoar view, and you can't do anything with it. The only way to close it is Ctl/Alt/Del and force it shut.Does that ring any bells anywhere?Again tonight I have totally reloaded FUIII, with the same problem remaining. Latest video drivers have been installed again.Grrrrr.............:-mad Cheers
  12. Looks great.. and yes, I must admit you did beat me.x( But (in my defence) I understand you had a "secret weapon" going for you. i.e. You knew what you were doing! :-lol :-lol :-lol Congratulations. And yep, I'll let you know when the RV6 is in danger of getting off the ground.Cheers :-wave Bruce H
  13. Hi All,I'm experiencing a little problem here that I'm hoping some kind soul might help me with.Suddenly, I've lost all the clarity in my scenery (Oz, Seattle and Sanfran) It's almost like the hi res scenery tiles are being ignored. :-hmmm I thought it was somehow related to ansitropic settings, so have tried 1023 changes to my video setup (Radeon 9250) with no difference. I have tried a zillion versions of flt3.cfg, and fiddled with the settings on the control panel.. still no good.I have reinstalled FUIII from scratch.Any thoughts? I can't think of any changes that I have deliberately made that would cause this.Cheers :-wave Bruce Hhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/175977.jpg
  14. Jon,Look yummy :-erks They appear to be large cockroaches or elephant beetles or a mixture of the two. Probably good done in a big thick batter. You'd need a lot of them to equivalent a nice grain-fed rump though..CheersBruce H
  15. Hi Jon,Quick question... have you been using LG2 for your Seattle lighting? How's it going? Suitable for general release do you think?CheersBruce H
  16. Hi Folks,Yep, still here but haven't been able to do much on the FU front lately. I'm aware I have a few things to finish off.. thanks for your patience.Reading through the posts lately I couldn't help but think how many folks have "come back" to FU after a brief rendezvous with other flight sims. I guess that says something about FU and about the other sims.PS I don't want to start WWIII here, just an observation...Cheers:-wave Bruce H
  17. Hi again,Yes, there are two axi (is that the plural form?) mapped:-toe_brakes_device 1 1 2 maps joystick #1 axis 1 to the left and axis 2 to the right. The way I understand things (which may be quite rong of course) is that a car has proportional braking because the more pressure you apply, the quicker the car stops. Unless you have ABS which introduces a differential component and imposes some (involuntary) left/right control.Maybe we have both on FU?I'm orf to Glen Innes for the weekend, but will do a bit more checking when I get back.Cheers all,Bruce H
  18. Hi all!Hands up everyone who is confused at this point. :-yellow1 Gentlemen, I wonder if I am correct in assuming from the above that:-Even though Jon purports to use "Joystick #2 buttons A and B" for toe brakes, the reality is that they are buttons 3 and 4 of joystick #1. There doesn't seem to be a way in the joykey settings to specify joystick #2 that I can see. My "understanding" of the docs is that"joy_3 left_brake_on 1"refers to the 3rd button on joy #1. This would give on/off braking which is not "proportional" to the input? i.e. that brakes can never be soft or hard on, they are just on or off.Hans on the other hand has his brakes wired to:- toe_brakes_device 1 1 2which is axis 1 and 2 on joystick device #1. Because these are "axis'es" (plural axis) they are therefore variable by means of a knob or lever e.g. and are proportional in the sense that brakes may be soft or hard depending on the turn of the lever.Hans is using joystick #2 for pitch and roll input.Or am I totally barking up the rong tree?Have a great weekend everyone.CheersBruce HPS Thanks for the offer Allan, I must admit to having eyed off the CH products, but you don't often see used ones on ebay.PPS from my old analog computing daze (remember analog?) I think that:-"Differential" implies that you can do something to one input/device without affecting the other (I think) e.g. you can brake the left wheel without necessarily braking the right;"Proportional" implies that you can apply a variable amount of input and get a proportionate amount of output (I think)
  19. Hi Jon / Andre,Thanks for the comments. I don't think I would do the code but perhaps a friend of mine would be prepared to take it on if there was the demand. But it looks like Jon is the only one doing cockpit design? Or are there others out there who are totally happy? :-jumpy CheersBruce H
  20. Thanks folks,I must confess to be a little confused :-roll by the proportional/differential thing.Would I be best to use a switch (differential?) or a potentiometer/axis (proportional?) for my toe brakes? And how would I map switches on joy 2 to act as brakes? I can't see any way in the documentation to do this. But I guess it must be possible because Jon has done it.CheersBruce H
  21. Hi Jon,Thanks for the feedback. I can live with on/off brakes.I would have thought that the CH setup would use proportional braking tho, and what about the FU suggestion that the toe brakes might be connected to the rotate X/Y axis. That would make them proportional surely? As long as it stops before I hit the wall, that's all that matters. :7 CheersBruce H
  22. Hi all,Question: IF (notice the stress on IF) it were possible to revisit Gideon's amazing cockpit builder and add new features, what kind of things would we like added?I don't know what is possible at this stage, but some feedback would be good.Cheers,Bruce H
  23. Hi all,In a moment of madness *:-* last weekend I decided to build myself a set of pedals. So.. armed with an old Saitek two axis joystick, some pieces of timber, tools, a cool drink, and my wife looking on and shaking her head slowly from side to side as they do at times, I set to work and ended up with a construction which is IMHO not too bad. Pedals pivot, not slide, but that's OK. I figured the extra effort to make them slide was just not worth it.I connected my contraption up to a second game port and got FU to recognise it OK after a bit of research. Then, being on a bit of a roll (in a manner of speaking) I said to myself, "Myself, why don't you add some toe brakes?" So I set about thinking about toe brakes. Now I think I have the mechanics of it all worked out. But.. when it came to working out how I was going to connect them in to my gameport I hit a bit of a blank.I notice that the official FU read suggests that toe brakes might be connected to device 2 rotate X and Y axis. But how does this map to the pinouts on a gameport connector? Can I use the Joystick B X and Y axis via a Y cable? Do I need to install a driver perhaps?Has anyone done this with a gameport device? I know, I should step into the 21st century and get USB but then we gotta go with what we've got here.Any help greatly appreciated. In the meantime, at least I can manage cross wind landings a bit better. Sometimes I can even get one wheel on the bitumen. So it's all good. :-jumpy Cheers Bruce H
  24. Welcome back..Head over to topichttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=16114&page=courtesy of Jon Point. This may be what you need.CheersBruce H
