  1. Can't you just wait until descent to finalize your Vref? If not just use the progress page as mentioned by Chris above.
  2. The RAT will deploy automatically when hydraulic pressure is lost, engines shutting down does not cause a loss of pressure. The electric and bleed pumps hyd are still working. The APU does autostart when there is no AC source, standby bus holds it all together until the APU takes over. From my own testing (I test pretty much everything on every new PMDG plane I get) I didn't notice much help from the TAC, the most help I noticed was from the PFC which does a great job. I leave the PFC on but turn of the TAC and it continues to do a great job dynamically trimming the rudder. Turn both off however and you really get to feel the result of those big engines.
  3. It's a fantastic feature of the 777X and I also hope it makes it to the NGX in SP2.
  4. Yeah, Welp I have pretty much solved it for my self also, I was fiddling around with my monitor modes and noticed "scenery" mode almost got rid of it,along with richer colours. So I decided to lower my brightness (which was high) and.... Pretty much completely gone now (well not visible at least). So yeah my monitor was setup all wrong and now it looks great. Probably the same reason it is hard for others to see in my above large pictures, now I am having trouble seeing it. lol
  5. Umm no...., clearly you guys are not seeing it. Make the image larger (click on them) and look at all/any of the screens especially in the dark areas the issue should be clear. edit: to make it clearer, zoomed in: See the blotches on the black? (they move and change shape constantly as the viewpoint moves). It may seem like I am nitpicking but it is clear and very distracting in flight.
  6. It looks worse at night but I think you can see the issue. Please don't mind the config of the aircraft, I was just messing around testing somethings. Whats worse is the pattern moves all the time as the camera moves manually or dynamically so it's like it is dancing on the screens all the time.
  7. I'm having the same issue, it can get pretty horrid looking especially at night. I have been fiddling with my driver setting etc but with no luck. Only thing that has helped is the above advice of disabling high resolution virtual cockpit in the FSX menu, however this means that many textures including the screens themselves are quite low quality and it is hard to decided which issue is worse. I had/have this issue very slightly on the NGX but hardly noticeable, on the 777 it is very difficult to ignore.. It would be great if PMDG gave some resolution options for the displays in the next update just so we can put the moire effect out of "phase" with the viewing position we use.
  8. I've had this happen to me a few times too, never figured out what was going. I only assumed cause I was just messing around testing things it was related to that.
  9. Well worth it in my opinion. I have no issues running it along with FS2Crew either.
  10. I just bought the PMDG 777 last week, I am going through it's systems and getting a feel for it. Soon I want to start flying it more seriously so am looking at getting PFPX and a good weather engine to go with it...so.. Was thinking AS 2012 or Opus but then on research I find this fantastic sounding Active Sky Next in beta. This is the weather engine I want but it isn't here soon enough. A question, If I buy AS2012 now (love the idea of wind import on the 777 with AS2012), will I get a discount for ASNext when it releases?
  11. Would be nice to get weather information messages sourced from a weather engine (Active sky etc). Maybe when the SDK is released assuming it has comm functions.
  12. Yep, you can load the 777X (or NGX) from cold and dark state as default or make your own panel state for default. Oh, and please don't be dissuaded from this forum because some snappy responses, it is a great forum it's just regulars see the same sort of questions over and over by those that have no interest in looking up info themselves and it's easy to jump the gun on genuine users sometimes. Welcome to Avsim John.
  13. I know the 300ER is coming as a expansion next, not sure how far away but I have my doubts it will be this year with all the work that is being done (service pack, SDK etc).
  14. I very much doubt it will be out by Christmas, PMDG usually wait until after service packs and the product has proved to be very stable before boxed versions are released.
  15. After a dozen of so of my intial full flights with the NGX shortly after release I realised as much as I liked the HGS, it would spoil me. So I limited my HGS use to low visibility and failure conditions for the very reason stated by the OP.
  16. PC gaming market is doing quite well actually. Yes sales of desktop and Laptop PC's are down as tablets have done some replacing but gaming side of the spectrum is doing quite fine. Infact many PC titles have had substancial budget increases (Total war series, Elder Scrolls etc) and steam is doing very well. Especially with the popularity of indies these days outside of iOS and Andriod versions. The PC is dying story has been around for 20 years or more. I would rather just stick to the thread topic, it's dissapointing to enter this thread with all these new posts only to see discussions on the health of flight sim/PC's/PC gaming. So does anyone know if JD still intending to make a response at some point? I am assuming his holiday has ended?
  17. Fantastic post, thanks for sharing. The ECL looks like such a handy tool.
  18. Probably just confirming the flight mode they are/should be in, the PFD in the 777 states FLT DIR while the 737 NG's PFD just has FD.
  19. I haven't flown for a while but am expecting to do so soon... However it is rare for me to have to do a go around but I often practice them anyway. A bunch of years ago I was very confident in my skills in the MD-11 I was flying but I never really practiced go arounds etc, so came the day one was required and I muddled it a bit. No crash or anything exteme like that but it wasn't very majestic so since then I routinely practice go arounds in all the aircraft I fly. So I can't remember my last genuinely required go around. EDIT: I do my remember my last it was a hand flown circle approach into Madeira, I wasn't happy with it so I aborted and tried again, second attempt turned out great.
  20. Looks fine to me http://www.sjap.nl/images/LH%20wing%20kreuger%20flaps%20bonding%20jumpers%20overview%20small.jpg They hinge and extend differently to the slats so are quite different underneath.
  21. Great to see videos being uploaded, however I am not watching them as I want to experience the sound for myself first. I kinda am dissapointed Luke Pabari got the beta (sorry Luke) as I miss reading his enthusiastic posts with every detail that is released, not the same anymore.
  22. They were trying to correct it.... with pitch and no throttle sadly until it was too late. Seems to me maybe they were expecting A/T to be dealing with the throttles. EDIT: I was late.
  23. I have watched this doco 2 times over, probably the best documentry I have ever watched as a whole. I was hoping something similar was done for the 787 but it looks doubtful.
  24. After watching the crash video I am even more certain of my previous posts. The 777 itself held up so well to impact to stay intact and the design of the 777 itself clearly saved lives.
