  1. Ah, thank you for that explanation! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
  2. Thank you...but, why "five by five"? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
  3. This has nothing to do with the topic, but I have a question for five-by-five. What exactly does "Five by Five" mean in aviation parlance? I've been simming for a lot of years and I first heard the reference in the film "Aliens 2" and have never figured out what it refers to. A silly question, I'm sure, but just curious.
  4. Did you see this? It was built exclusively for FSX by an AVSImmer here -- looks like an awesome system: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271127573796
  5. The first time I ever flew this in FS9 I thought it was a mistake by the programmers . . . that they had just sloughed off on it and not put in a proper turnaround or ILS!
  6. This is terrible news. My condolences to you and his family.
  7. Massively great to see you, Paul. So glad the "forces of evil" couldn't completely keep down!
  8. As I recall, the demo version of Active Camera does not work outside of the Seattle area. It's designed that way.
  9. I LIKE being married. In fact, I'm in search of my 3rd ex-wife right now. IMHO, there's no real sense of commitment these days. Divorce is way too easy to get, and there is no social stigma about it any more. Everybody is into self-actualization, and being alone, and everybody has too many "issues", and what not, so it is felt that it's just easier to be alone. With all of the distractions we have in modern society, that's pretty understandable. Pierre: I would suggest you get with a mental health professional and start there. Don't be cheap -- there is no better investment than that mae in personal resolution and soul nurturing. Trust me. My last divorce kicked the crap out of me emotionally, but I'm such a better man because of all the work I've done on myself since then! If you want to be alone, they will help you resolve that so that you are a bit more accepting of that. If you want friends, they can help you with that, too. But to have friends you have to contribute and work to get them -- it's not a one way street, and what you put in to it is EXACTLY what you will get out of it -- and you will NEVER find and keep a wife without mastering the art of friendship! If you're not ready to go out for help, or don't feel it's a dire enough situation, there are a TON of self help books out there -- I've read over 100 in the year and a half since my (last) wife moved out. Personally, this guy changed my life! I HIGHLY recommend his ebooks and audio programs -- he and his wife sell many and this is the one I started with: << http://tinyurl.com/8boccca >> PM me if you want. Old and single, AGAIN.
  10. Good luck to all three of you guys!
  11. I bought mine in December of 2009 from a place called guitammer.com for 129.99 -- I think Guitammer is the parent company, or the manufacturer. (Not a lot of time to read about it this AM.) Don't forget to check eBay, amazon and the other usual suspects. I just found it on K-Mart.com for 129.99 - the Gamer 2 that is. Same thing I have.
  12. Any ideas what kind of plane would they fly this with? Obviously a single engine . . . like a Cessna or something? A/C identification is NOT my strong point.
  13. That's what I was thinking, but it's still too cool! Thank you, Comanche.
  14. I'm not sure where everybody is on the globe, or if there is an "International Chair Design Standardization Committe" but this is what my rig with the chair and the Buttkicker looks like - from the "approach" and from the "beneath" angles. (Actually, it looks like those black cups slip DOWNWARDS on my chair -- you might want to check that out on yours. BTW, I hope I didn't violate any rules by posting pictures here. It's been a while since I've posted . . .
  15. Mine was like this too -- I just rais that black plastic cup out of the way. Cut it off if you have to - Buttkicker is worth it! - the black plastic is the dust covering, to keep dust, dirt, and animal hair out of the chair mechanism. But unless you live outdoors, I can't imagine a house dirty enough to gum up a chair. Then again, we are flight simmers -- if we're not married or have housekeepers, we probably only clean when we can barely breathe any more any way. :P
  16. Buttkicker has nothing to do with replacing headphones or speakers -- as a matter of fact it works even better WITH headphones because you experience the same feelings without blowing people out of your house with any sound of your speakers. And the designers of this were even smart enough to make their wire long, super thick (it's the thickness of a cable-tv cable) and DETACHABLE, so you can tuck it out of the way wherevever you want.
  17. I've had mine for years, and I don't understand why more people don't consider this must have hardware! It is awesome, and it's not even that expensive! Like OmniAtlas, I especially like the ground roll, touch down and take off feelings it adds to the sim!
  18. Good for you! If that's her only problem with you, you need to ###### her up as quick as possible! LOL Tweaking was at least half as much fun until I got my rig running just right (in my eyes). Then I set a restore point, and shortly thereafter the iFly 737 came out for FS9. Life hasn't been the same since then...! :-) Good luck to you and your decision, whatever they may be! ROTFLMFAO!!!! One other thing: I thought I read earlier someone say "turn it around", and I thought about this and, another way you could turn your question is to ask yourself not only what that poster recommended, but also: Would you marry a woman that reads all day and all night -- and never pays attention to you? The interaction is basically the same . . . does that make sense?
  19. Yes, simmers get married and our wives are just fine with it. But you do first have to find a suitable woman, and that won't happen sitting at your computer on a Friday night. So, in that regard, you will have to "give up" at least a part of your FS hobby so that you can go out and become more social. I would also suggest that you don't make Flight Simulation the center of your universe, nor would I suggest that it enter any part of your conversation on the first (or even the second or third) date. You need to learn what a woman is looking for in a man, but, even more importantly, what YOU are looking for in a woman. And that kind of learning takes much more than a web post on AVSIM can even begin to address. Best of luck, my friend.
  20. Whoa, this thread really degenerated into hostility and backbiting MUCH faster than usual. (However, I did notice that it was done so by the usual band of hostile backbiters.) I will address as many of your "concerns" as I can, just to soothe your frayed little nerves. Hopefully this will stop the lecturing and finger wagging, which from my POV actually sounds really foolish - I've been driving over 40 years and I've never had so much as a fender bender. I got my first cell phone in 1989 - yes, an old Motorola!): 1) Like I said, lecturing me about how to drive is really a waste of YOUR time -- by the looks of it I've been doing it a lot longer than any of you. A LOT longer. 2) I wouldn't be staring at my phone while driving! When the phone rings, I want to see the caller ID so I know if I need to pick it up, or can the caller go to voice mail, and, if so, how I should pick up - bluetooth or handset. 3) Ron Atwood: Who cares if I admit this behavior on a forum? Do you think the state police or the FBI is going to hunt me down or something? (You're one of a rare breed who actually puts his last name onto a public forum. ) 4) ZachLW: Read the topic title - in case you don't recognize it, that's what we call "a question" - that curly thing at the end is "a question mark". Oh, and I did say in my OP that I have a GPS. A less hostile person would have assumed that the GPS is already hanging off the windshield, so you see I CAN'T hang it off the windshield! :Applause: 5) Rockliffe and megs8888: How old are you? Yours were two of the silliest posts I've ever seen here . . . you both really took this and ran with it. (A coroner's report?? And fists up so quickly!) By the looks of it I've been driving about 25 years longer than either of you . . . up until now my attitude was fine. But thanks for the invaluable advice -- you've really made a difference in the world. :Silly: 6) ytzpilot: Judging from your attitude, I'm really glad you don't live in Pennsauken, NJ, too. I don't think you'd make it more than a few days. By the way, I just did a quick search on Google about NZ drivers, and the very first post I found was this one: New Zealand Drivers Suck :LMAO: http://lettersfromparadise.blogspot.com/2006/03/new-zealand-drivers-suck.html But don't get your feelings hurt: it was written back in 2006. I'm sure NZ drivers have gotten MUCH better since then. I would really like to thank Dave_Morgan. I really appreciate your help -- you know exactly what I was talking about and gave me an answer I can use. And ramrunner800 : Thank you for speaking up: you were absolutely right. After the third patronizing post I did just slap my head and walked away. Everybody else: why do you have to be so venomous? And on a Friday night too!! You all should be happy! I've been here longer than most of you and I can tell you that there was a time when I wouldn't have thought twice about posting here - now it seems everybody's just looking for a fight. Contributions have really gotten nasty the past couple of years, downright mean. You guys even started to fight amongst yourselves. Here's some of advice for you: if you didn't like the topic you always, uh, just MOVE ON!! (WHAT a concept!) I didn't start this, but I am going to end it. I never even suspected that my question (asked and explained pretty nicely, too) would have stirred up so much trouble. 8P
  21. Moderator: Could you please wipe this topic so that I can possibly repost it, in the hope of getting an answer that addresses the topic question, and is actually on point? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or combatitive, and I would appreciate the same from the other "contributors" to the thread. Thank you.
  22. By the time I'm done loading my sunglasses, coffee, GPS, cell phone, cables, converters and everything else into my car, just about ever piece of usable real estate has been used up, and I often end up laying my Android on my thigh while driving, so that I can easily see the caller ID, maps, whatever. If you follow my meaning, this really seems like the safest way to do things, because if I store it anywhere else, I'm going to try and look at the screen for one reason or another . . . even if just out of curiousity. And, this practice keeps leading me back to the thought about "Why not just get a kneeboard?" What do other people do? I can't believe I'm the only person in the world who uses his smartphone while driving for one reason or another. (And I don't really need a lecture about safety and all that . . . I get it, and that would really just be a waste of your time.) Thanks, folks!
  23. Thank you, Andy! I too was never blessed with my own children, but I've had the honor of helping to raise 4 step sons over the past 20 years. Not the same, but still pretty fulfilling nonetheless. Still, I would love to get your opinion of the iFly, or the PMDG 737s though, especially loaded onto your system specs. I started more complex payware with the PMDG and have never looked back! And today, although I don't get to fly NEARLY as much as I used to, it amazes me that I took so long to climb on board, (AND how relatively less sophisticated an A/C it is compared to the newer iFly . . . just amazed).
