  1. Can someone explain to me the general logic behind the reason why commercial aircraft these days fly higher yet slower? As my altitude increases in my iFly 73X I understand that my mach speed doesn't change, and why it's more EFFICIENT for my aircraft to fly at higher altitude, but what I don't quite understand is why does my ground speed go down? And wouldn't this decline in ground speed negatively impact commercial airlines scheduling vis a vis ETE and arrival times? Wouldn't this concern the airlines a bit more than they apparently do?? I mean, it seems that even for shorter routes commercial aircraft are climbing to FL390 AND FL410 more than they used to, at least in the US they are. I'm sure it has something to do with mach and ground speeds in relation to the surface of a sphere (the Earth) but I'm just not getting it into my antique noggin, and I can't really find anything on it in all my manuals or Google (don't know what to ask!). Thanks in advance for any insight you might be able to provide!
  2. Just out of curiousity, how do you like their timeline backup software. I've been using every new release of Acronis Home for years, and have had more than my share of catastrophic crashes. I have NEVER been able to restore to a blank hard drive, despite Acronis' guarantees of being able to do so -I have always had to install Windows first. Not trying to bash anybody's product here, but after the recent failure of my (non-FS) HP laptop and inability to restore using Acronis, I would REALLY like to find a good image restore package. If anyone has any (other) suggestions please let me know. I'd really appreciate it!
  3. Or, check your default saved flight, make the correction there, and then resave default. :)
  4. A powered subwoofer is a MUST, but you don't need to spend a lot of money. My whole speaker setup (two front speakers and a powered subwoofer) cost me less than 75 dollars.
  5. You put the buttkicker in between your speaker setup. You keep using your Altecs!!
  6. There is no model built specifically for flight simulator -- the Gamer 2 is the correct one you want. Not like this, I can assure you!
  7. It adds immediate vibrations through your entire chair based on sounds from the sim. The best way to explain it is to tell you to do a search on youtube and read their web page, Really, anything I say won't do it justice!
  8. Well, that was weird. I was SURE I put it in there: Oh, well. My bad, and my apologies. << http://www.thebuttkicker.com/gaming/index.htm >>
  9. My advice is to spend 40 - 50 bucks on a decent sound card and get THIS:>BTW, I am affiliated in no way with this company and don't get compensated for any endorsements or recommendations, but I do love this hobby and want to share my enthusiasm about the (suprisingly!) extreme addition to the immersion level and realism this device added to my flight sim experience. To feel taxi and take-off rolls (and suddenly, NOT to feel them just as you lift off the ground, to turbulence, and that distinctinctive, soft left-right thud as you touchdown is incredibly cool!
  10. I guess I must enjoy it Rafal - I continue to jump into situations that it happens! Seriously, when tuned correctly, the experience of the tire roll sound during taxi and take off, as well as the engine vibration during flight can't be beat!! I simply can't fly without it now . . . ! No kidding!
  11. I can not recommend this item highly enough!! http://www.thebuttkicker.com/gaming/index.htm It is probably my 3rd best FLIGHT SIM "realism" expenditure of all time (FS9 being first, YokePedalsThrottleQuad being second). Chuck
  12. Unfortunately, Andy, Pete's Autosave utility doesn't save panel conditions in the more complex payware aircraft. So, say if you' re flying the iFly 737NG or the PMDGs, you will restart youre flight at altitude with a cold and dark aircraft! And even if you get the plane's avionics up and ruining again before you crash to the ground, nav systems wont be aligned correctly and you'll end up fighting with the plane on final! :(
  13. I wasn't aware there was a TCAS on the iFly 737 NG.
  14. AI? This bloody happens to ME, when I'm taxiing to the runway!! I have the payware version of FSUIPC, so I have to hit the Shft-Z key to zap the a/c in front of me out of existence.
  15. Rightseater, you da man. Thank you ever so much!Rightseater, you da man. Thank you ever so much!
  16. Is your autothrottle armed? Are your v-speeds correct. You may have derated too much, or perhaps all your engines are not running. You may have accidentally lost power. Also, is your aircraft overweight? How much fuel are you carrying? You may simply be too heavy . . .HTH.Is your autothrottle armed? Are your v-speeds correct. 17. Hello, folks! Somehow, I've accidentally screwed up the nice auto - phone view that you guys have in place, on my Android 2.2 phone. I remember hitting something on the browser screen's lower left corner and - *poof* - I was in that desktop view mode that's so hard to see on a smart phone. Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong, or how to get that great "phone specific" view so I can go back to reading the forums in my very, very boring meetings?Thank you!Chuck
  18. But won't this make the guages larger than their holes in the .bmp for the panel?I bought this years ago, and it helped a lot, although I don't recall if it addresses the .bmp sizing issue . . .you may need a photo editing program like photoshop or elements to fix that.http://www.flight1.com/esd-products.asp?product=FSP-ESD-001I think Abacus makes some sort of gauge editing software too. Do a google search and see what you can find.HTH.
  19. Thanks for your effort on this, skwal!
  20. Since no one else has answered you yet, I'll chime in: it sounds to me like your video card is going bad, or one of your cables. I would start cheap and replace the video cables one at a time, but it's definitely a failure in your video system.
