  1. Yeah, I think my system is dialed in as good as is practical, I just wanna see how my system stacks up against another build with same bios clocks and timings. That, and I'm wanna see how my system is vs an 8700K. Looking forward to some of those X299 to Z370 numbers.
  2. I'm laughing at that Time Spy result ...and it's verified! Nice. Yeah, that 1600w P/s makes me want spit out my coffee, too. It looks like you"re onto bigger and better things but I wanna ask, if given the time what are your vitals are, and a bench or two, with Raj's 4133? And (bonus ?), do you have something that can beat his stability/performance with the same clocks? Or are his timings with the gskill really the """Apex""" of efficiency and performance on a z370. Important note on the 4133 2x8 gskill profile: I have to manually insert the dram frequency 3700 to 4133, everything else in my setup is unchanged. I noticed this after I put up his profile against another 24/7 5.0 using XMP. I'm glad I revisited the 4133 profile and noticed the ..."""typo"""?
  3. Ok, I've seen enough. This upgrade has exceeded my even my most wildest dreams. It's gonna take a few weeks for me to come up with the words to express the experience I've had with this kit over the last two days. Oh sure, I can tell you the easy measurable like, my minimum FPS on short final into LAX has gone from 16-18 to 24-27 but that would even begin to tell the story of the true performance I'm getting. The ROG Apex coupled with the 8700 or 8600k and GSKILL memory needs to be stickied somewhere in these forums. I'll be back .... with pictures. :-) Edit: Upgraded from: Asus Z87- I5 4670 4.7Ghz - Gskill 2400 2x8GB cl10 XMP - Carried over the ASUS Strix 1070
  4. oh, the above mentioned is on an APEX board using the bios preset "Raj's Gskill 2x8gb @ 4133". It's a 24/7 5.0 profile that runs the mem at 4133.
  5. Mine is not delidded. The thermal difference between my cpu and Flier's is interesting to me. The max temp I've seen on my build so far was 71c. And may be because I couldn't fit the fans on the radiator ...well, I had one fan half cocked on the radiator while the other was lying on the power supply : -) ....both were running at just 600rpm. -I may actually go back to this config, I liked the quiet. :-) My max voltages and temps using: AIDA64 Stress Test (latest ver.) is 1.33 powering a 85% cpu load. Temps Hi 50's. OCCT ver 4.5.0 - linepack 64bit - 90% mem load - cpu load at 100 is 1.34 with temps no higher that 65c. Prepared v4 under extreme load is around 1.38 with max temps in the high 60's
  6. WOW! Using Raj's 4133 24/7 preset: AIDA64 Mem read/write 60.600MB's, Latency 39.5ns <------ that's crazy! 5.0 CPU, 4.5 NB. Ram at 4133 timings17-18-18-38-1T. The above is not some stupid benchmark score $hore config, that's a 27/7 setup! I'm gonna drop the mic on the above mentioned config and start installing software tomorrow.
  7. Welcome to the party. some bench marks: cb15: cpu1280/ single core 216 3dmark06: 49,000 Aida64:mem 48000 read/write, latency 43 Real becnh: 142,000 cpuID 602/3241 Real Temp : 2248 The above bench marks are with the "24/7, 5.0, manual, xmp" overclock profile ....<------I didn't change anything (I'm on bios 802) Will try some benchmark profiles today ...do you have a favorite? Question: What fan header should I use for the H110? I'm currently on the "cpu fan" 3 pin. I ask cuz it doesn't seem to be monitored.
  8. That 5.6 with 4000mhz mem you posted is sick :-) thanks for the tools ...I'm going to start banging now.
  9. Funny thing is I feel like I’m selling this mobo short. My reported temps are with no case fans plugged in and the radiator fans at idle. LoL I think a 5.5 or better is not out of the question. I will check out cb15 and report to back you.
  10. Well ....we're golden. This thing sleep walks through OCCT line pack and Real Bench @ 1.38v - 5ghz memory at XMP. Max temps: low to mid 60's. As you know Westman, this board comes with wide variety of user overclock profiles. I've played with several of them and this board has handled everyone one of them. Not one blue screen! and there's some pretty crazy profiles. This is the finest kit I've ever owned ..... edit: actually the 5.0 was with a vid 1.35 occ showed vid 1.35 with a max vcore of 1.38v
  11. Hi Martin- The cooler is the V2 edition ....which leads me into wanting to curse the kid that "helped" me out at the store. See, when I walked in I wanted the Corsair 500d because I was all but certain I could get most any water cooler THAT I WANTED into the case with the APEX board. As noted in a previous post, he talked me out of the 500d and into the Corsair 300r and assured me that everything would fit. Wrong!!! The V2 does not fit in the 300r -the fan butts up against the ram. Anyway, I love the case! I love the board! And love the cooler ...my 1st h2o cooler, and I'm going to keep it (I made it fit). ...And ...btw, I'm up and running with Win7 pro! I used an old sandy bridge spin up drive with Win7 already on it as a test bed. Other than having to connect the dots (tracking down drivers) the installation was smooth and is running liked I hoped it would. The early non tuned benchmark and performance returns are really encouraging.
  12. I did check out Phanteks, very nice. In fact it was their mini case that had me strongly consider the ROG z370-i board. But in the end it was all about not dealing with shipping and more about seeing and touching before buying (they only few Corsair and Antec E-ATX models in stock). The kid down there talked me out of the Core 500 case and into the 300R. ....He also talked me into the Corsair H100 cooler .....it better fit in the case. :-) BTW, I did walk out with the APEX. Buying new puter stuff never gets old, right?
  13. Thanks again Westman for the time. I'm going to pick up the Apex, the 8600K, and the Corsair Obsidian 450d Case at the local electronics store today. The little store, 4 miles from Intel, has always been golden to me over the years ...keeping my fingers crossed on this cpu. ..... A side note: I was just thinking to myself that this little store (Central Computers) is within 5 miles of Apple, Nvidia, AMD and Intel. Anyway ....I looked at several boards, even considered the ROG Z370 -i mini, but settled on the Apex because of the PS2 ports. Really. :-)
  14. @ Westman- Ok, I got one more specific Apex question ....last one, really. :-) Ok, other than the size of the board (funking huge!) I really appreciate the no b.s. qualities of the Apex; However, I do need WiFi. Question: PCIe or USB for the WiFI adapter ....which one introduces the least contamination?
  15. Thanks guys! That's all I needed to hear and hear from. :-) I'll flip a coin between the two boards ..... ...Oh, actually there is one other thing I wanna direct at Westman: are the hardware and gaming benchmarks pretty close between win7 and win10?
  16. I'm in the market for a Z370 board -to pair with an 8600K and the GSkill RipJaw V 2x8gb 3200 cl14 memory. I'm leaning towards a ROG board but Im concerned about a lengthy thread at the ROG forum regarding audio issues that appear to be related to PCi latency issues. Been there done that and don't want to go back ...to the Nvida vs Creative Labs PCI fight of 90's and early 2000's. So my questions: -how's your ROG board -would you buy it again -is there an inherent flaw with the 370 chipset -bonus question (please accept my apologies on this one) ....have you installed win7? if so, hows the performance vs win10? ---I've already purchased the memory and am strongly leaning towards the 8600K but welcome any knowledgeable advise, suggestions or tips. Thanks-
  17. All good here! Thank you for the quick work on the identification of subject issue and patch.
  18. Ditto the two previous posts with the addition I can load saved flights from v4.1 from the start screen.
  19. Glad you went out of your way to get us a shot of the of the Apple Death Star ....or as i like to call it, the black hole. :-) Nice shots!
  20. Well that's a ""dynamic"" question... Answer: A) yes -In situations where one is cpu bound B) no -in situations where one is gpu bound -Happy Holidays
  21. To the point of this topic: I did buy a nice Saitek yoke system two or three years ago. I used it for about 5 minutes, it has since been stored in my garage along with my TSW racing wheel (retired from racing about 10 years now). Joy stick is king in this house.
  22. I'll never forget the looks I got from my fellow competitors when I pulled out my CH Flight Stick (with the rudder pedals) for a two day lan NASCAR stock car race event in Sacramento, Ca. back in the early 2000's. Most everyone in the filled conference room had $600 to $1200 dollar wheels ....and I pulled out the above mentioned. Oh, did I ever hear about it ...especially after winning the event. The prize? a $600 wheel + other goodies. :-) .......Oh, and I did learn to use the wheel (still have it) ....took some time, though
  23. Wow. Saint Ignatius High must have been tough back in those days. My dad, now 77, also got kicked out. I'm a 4th generation San Francisco native. I too spent alot of time in the Sierras as a kid. Oh, and my grandma worked at the Emporium. :-) Thanks for sharing, Ken
