  1. Marc - it will not be released this summer. The only thing we have been told is that they "hope" it will be released this year. But don't hold them to that either. It will be ready when it's ready.
  2. It's pretty sad when you cant even fly on VATSIM without the paparazzi showing up...
  3. And here it was: NGX Beta Flight Ryan probably didn't want to see this pop up again though, lol =)
  4. That's the only thing I use to plan all my flights in Europe and I have yet to have a controller tell me something was wrong.
  5. Then you have two options. Pay a lot of money for something like Jeppesen, or do a little bit of work yourself and use an app that lets you view PDF charts that you download yourself. I'm pretty sure Jepp is the only app that will display charts from all over Europe though, a subscription is $2,100.
  6. Im so excited for this. Time to dust off my 707 and do that transatlantic I have been wanting to do for so long...
  7. The second coolest thing about that LMGTFY, is that the second entry was this very post. Kind of like an infinite loop.
  8. ...Or it indicates a pilot who cannot follow any instruction that deviates them from the magenta line.
  9. I apologize, but I have to strongly disagree with this. The default ATC phraseology and procedures are very different than the real-world procedures on VATSIM and using them to try and learn VATSIM is a step backward. I cannot speak for radar contact other to say that I know it's better than default ATC but I'm not sure if it's a reasonable way to prepare for VATSIM. The bottom line is VATSIM is NOT difficult if you just take the time to learn. It amazes me how many people are intimidated by it to the point that they refuse to try. The VATSIM PRC and other training programs make it very easy to learn just so long as you are actually willing to learn it. No one on VATSIM does everything right all the time. Everyone makes mistakes. The only way you're going to anger someone is if you're deliberately messing around (the supervisors are quick to respond to a situation like that). Just try your best and take small steps and you're fine.
  10. The VATSIM PRC is about as dumbed down as you can get. ZLAs are good too. http://pilotcerts.laartcc.org/page/ratings.html
  11. I agree the 8 hour rules is probably intended more for someone having a glass of wine or beer with dinner as opposed to the guy at the bar drinking until 1am. In that situation I'd definitely say 24-36 hours because even if you're not technically drunk, a bad hangover itself is enough to make you unfit to fly (or drive for that matter)
  12. I love it. With my track ir it was even more amazing and when I got the thrustmaster hotas the game was changed even more for me. Far more immersive than FS. My only gripe is how limited it is. I can remember other similar games that had dynamic campaigns where each mission was different and each time you did the campaign it was different. With DCS you're stuck with a limited set of missions, and once you finish them, that's it. I have gone through the campaigns twice each I started downloading the user created missions but it's hard to tell which missions are actually done well. Like when you take 20 mins to preflight, then longer to fly to your objective only to be told that there are no targets, or have some trigger not work right or whatever. Multiplayer is awesome too but it's impossible to actually find someone who wants to do it properly as opposed to someone who just wants to make it some kind of death match kind of thing.
  13. If ATC says climb, climb. Doesn't matter what the chart says. Which SID are you referring to out of curiosity?
  14. You can fly anywhere on VATSIM. Who is telling you "no"?
  15. I think you should contact the FIR for wherever UTNT airport is. Perhaps they can give you a better explanation than we can. You can go anywhere you want on VATSIM, but you can't expect controllers to fly you there, albeit I would expect controllers to know where most airports are in their airspace. Is UTNT a new airport? I can tell you as a controller for almost 8 years we cannot get you somewhere that doesn't have a navaid associated with it. If a pilot called me up and asked for a heading to a lake/town I have absolutely no way to do that if there isn't a VOR or other navaid associated with it. We also don't have small or private strips depicted on our scopes. The responsibility still lies with the pilot to know where they are going. ATC can provide assistance, but only within their abilities.
  16. I think you're not understanding the role air traffic control plays. Controllers don't navigate you to your destination. You file a flight plan and try clear you on it and give assistance. Just fly VFR and not worry about it.
  17. Mad dog - Thanks for the help. That mostly fixed the problem. I see it sometime still and have to do the parking brake thing to fix it but at least it's not all the time now. Philip - I hadn't been using the CH software but I will give this a try too, thanks.
  18. I did a search for this problem and found some FS9 related issues but nothing for FSX. My problem just cropped up so I'm thinking it may be that my pedals just need to be replaced, but since it's a problem that others have had I'll hope there maybe a an FSUIPC fix or something. The issue is that as soon as a even nudge one of the toe brakes, the "DIFFERENTIAL BRAKES" message appears on the screen and will not go away. The plane begins to slow and the only way to clear it is to turn on the parking brakes then turn them off. I have tried re calibrating them in windows to no avail I have done my best within FSUIPC but honestly don't know what most of the FSUIPC controls mean so there's a good chance I'm just not doing it right. If there is someone who has had this issue before and could talk me through the FSUIPC settings I would be very much appreciative.
  19. Hehe, my VA has something exactly like that so they know we don't go to the water park during those long hauls, lol
  20. I always thought that phrase referred to published speed restrictions on SIDs/STARs rather than the 10k foot one. In the US, regulations are specific about allowing greater than 250+ knots speed if the plane's min safe clean speed was above that, however, you are required to notify ATC. Personally, I have never actually heard that either in the real world or VATSIM. Something to keep in the back everyone's mind with this is that, on VATSIM, there are several different places a plane could be getting it's weather from. FSX, REX, AS, VATSIM weather etc. Even the weather could be different depending on which VATSIM server you are signed into. It's not a big deal in a terminal environment, but I've actually given up on relying on speeds to separate planes on the en route level. A controller could do everything perfectly, but there will always be discrepancies in speeds. I've even noticed that simmers using X-Plane will gain/lose separation even if they are displaying the same ground speed as an FSX plane.
