I hope this post will be viewed as relevant to this thread and I can get my point across without flame wars starting. I have actually been a member of this forum since 2001 (my icon shows 2008 due to an absence from the forum and I started a new membership). Ok, long time flight simmer and I used to chase the latest technology and I wouldn’t ever want to admit how much I’ve spent during that time. I bought a new computer as every new MSFS was released in order to enjoy the features the new software offered. I know tech changes and causes new things to replace old and in many ways that’s a great thing, but what I am having somewhat of a problem with is when Operating Systems cause perfectly good working hardware that’s still being sold to become obsolete. Although dated which I admit, I now have 2 laptops that operate just fine using XP Pro, and when I saw the message yesterday that this forum would no longer support IE8, I thought ok time to up-date to IE9. Whoops, can’t do that…need W7 which my laptop mfg. does not offer some drivers for that will work with either laptop using W7. I know XP is being discontinued by MS…but are we/I being traded for “just go out and spend a grand for a new laptop system” verses I used intelligence when selecting my laptops so that I could expand for some reasonable length of time? How old is FSX J I too have my boxes of AT hardrives, and other gear that become obsolete and can’t even give a way. I use computers every day in my business that I own and they use W7 as the OP system. I also own a Toshiba Android tablet…just so it doesn’t seem that I’m being to dinosauric about thisJ

Hi guys,I have just got a new computer to use it only for FS9 and Nascar 2003. I have a paid version of FSUIPC. I would like to use my USB Saitek stick and throttle for flight sim, and my USB Act Labs Wheel and pedals for the race sim. While I understand FSUIPC will allow multiple joysticks in flightsim, is there a way to keep both controllers plugged in with out them creating a problem when I switch from game to game? I'm using Win XP Pro.Thanks for any suggestions.Hooper

First, thanks to you guys for helping me tweak things. I have attached a picture at KSEA in the Level-D 767 with traffic set at 20%, and the FPS locked at 50. I will lock it at 40, and this should continue to give me a good balance at any airport.The new 512mg memory, for a total of 1 gig, and reinstalling drivers, seemed to really makes things very stable.Again, my thanks to you!Jerry

Alex,The extra 512meg helped and I'm now getting a very steady 25 FPS (slider locked). I can live with this:) I have gotten back into the sim and decided to take things up a level by getting Level-D 767 and learning to do it a little more structure. Learning curve...but I'm getting there. You spoke of using three monitors with your system. I have a laptop running Win98, and you got me thinking about trying to use it with my main computer. I have a network and I just connected it and it's working. Its just a P100, but I think it should be of some use, even if I just use it to pull up chart while flying. I have read of some guys using another computer(s) to run flight controls,gps on a separate screens.Again, thanks for your input and it was nice meeting you and look forward to visiting from time to time.Jerry

Hi Alex,Thank you very much for your response. I will upgrade the memory today. I wasn't aware of the refresh screen in the controller settings and will certainly use that. In trying to keep my first post short, I probably didn't explain very well that your way of entering the sim and going to KSEA is exactly the way I do it. I can not upgrade the CPU any higher on this board...so after increasing my memory, do you think a new video card would add an increase worth the cost? I don't need a whole lot more of increase in FPS but, and after making a few more tweaks, I'm now averaging 17-20 FPS. I would like to see that increase to around 25 or even 30 so I have smoother FPS around busier airports. I'll let you know what the memory upgrade does.Thanks again,Jerry

Hello,I have enjoyed and visited this site many times over the years and enjoy the wealth of information it has always provided. After searching the site, I was not able to find any info on this. I thought I had joined the forum years ago, but I guess I have'nt since I tried to sign in to post this and found I wasn't registered (shame on me) I load FS2004, and go to the default location (KSEA) in the cessna. Just sitting in the plane, I watch my fps go from 50 down to 20 over a period of about 2 minutes. At first, I thought it was AI causing this as they began to spawn, so I set the traffic slider down to 0, exited, and re-started the sim. Same thing happens every time. I have my sliders set to a middle setting running at 1024x768 32(same as my desktop)and no 3-d clouds. I have a P4 3.0, 512 memory, and a Geforce 6200(256mg) card without any programs running in the background. I use the Saitek X45 contoller and have the latest nvidia driver installed. I have defragged both drives. Operating system on drive c, programs on drive d. I will watch this thread and provide any other information you fellows might need in order to try and help me.
