  1. Thanks - that is interesting to know.

I first worried about / noticed the lag some years ago when my Dad who flies gliders complained my controls in FSX lagged compared to his real world experience. Is that simply as the sim is intended for powered aircraft for which lag may be more realistic and/or I didn't have a payware glider?

I then forgot about the issue until I noticed less lag in X-Plane than I am used to. I would have thought it too would model inertia.

  2. If there is a delay in the VC controls it is not noticeable to me. My sensitivity is set to the furthest right on the slider (127 believe) with null zone to the furthest left - is that not the best setting?

The lag or possibly the scaling means I find it easier to line up with the runway when landing to X-Plane than in Prepar3d / FSX. With the latter I need to apply controls sooner when making adjustments as they do not seem as immediate. I hadn't really considered it a problem before until I noticed X-Plane was different and more particularly that no one else who has used both seems to have the same difference

  3. Hi,

I hope someone can help me.

I have Prepar3d V4.5 having used earlier versions, FSX and FS9. I recently downloaded the X-Plane 11 demo out of curiousity. Obviously there are lots of threads comparing the relative merits of P3D and X-Plane. However the thing that struck me most clearly I have not seen mentioned before - X-Plane is much more immediately responsive to my control inputs than MFS and Prepar3d. In X-Plane moving the yoke to the right (for example) causes my C172 to immediately bank right whereas in the other Sims there is a slight delay.

Is this just a symptom of a different approach to flight modelling or does it suggest that I have something wrong in how I have set up either sim? In particular should I be concerned at the input lag in my P3D or is it perfectly normal?

    Many thanks

    Jon

  4. Hi,I wonder if anyone can help. I have downloaded the demo/beta (I'm an FSX user but keen to see what Xplane can offer). I click run and the opening/title screen loads. Then nothing else happens - the opening screen just freezes and says it is not responding (as in the picture). Before I contact Laminar Research I wondered if anyone knew something obvious I might be doing wrong?I have a decent computer (albeit with an oldish graphics card) so assume that is not the problem?i7 920 @ 3.9GHzGeforce GTS 2506GB RAMMatrox TripleHead2Go3 19in screensthanksJon

  5. Thanks for the reply and Radar Contact itself. However since editing the csv file as explained in another thread (thanks to Drumcode for recommending the search) all callsigns are now correct.Would be interested in your thoughts on my other two points thoughthanks a lot Jon

  6. There's a thread about it in this forum, search for it. It instructs the user to edit a csv file that would take care of this issue.
Thanks for the reply. I searched the manual (should have thought to also do a search of the forum!)I now have the callsigns working.A couple of other things I have noticed with RC4 ...i) There is very little gap between the controllers speaking and the pilots - a small gap would add to the realism (similar to the gap between you and the controller). I assume nothing can be done but thought I would mention it ii) After I receive my clearance and am not told to contact ground (though the text box tells me to do so). Then when I switch to ground and ask for start-up I am then told to contact ground on the frequency I am already on - is that right?thanksJon

  7. Hi,I have just bought RC4 and am impressed with it so far (only done one flight). However I notice that with my UT2 traffic that Radar Contact is not using the correct callsign for AI traffic despite having the callsign recorded. Instead it just uses the first letter - for example United Airlines are referred to as "Uniform" and American Airlines as "Alpha". Is there anything I can do to fix this?thanksJon

  8. Hi,Been using VOXATC for a while now and am very happy with it. Just noticed while in tower view before a flight that none of the AI planes were connected to the FSX jetways and the baggage truck didn't connect to them prior to pushback. I've never really noticed if this is usual or not (I tend to fly to and from smaller airports).Do the FSX jetways and vehicles work with VOXATC generated AI? If so what do I need to do to get mine to work? (currently using Alpha India flight plans with UT2 aircraft)thanksJon

  9. We are supporting the Graphics upgrade, but we feel that the RAM in his system is more of a bottleneck than the graphics at the moment. He has also said thathe is looking to pick up a GTS250 second hand.
Yeah I'll try and get a second hand GTS 250 (watching a few on ebay at the moment).CPU cooler has arrived and I'll try and fit it this weekend. I have received and installed my RAM and it has helped. However do I need to change any settings in the BIOS - I had a look at a utility program - think it might have been CPU-Z and it said it was only running at <1000MhZ rather than 1666.thanksJon

  10. :(

Somethings not right with ur liquid cooling, 78C?!? I use the corsair H50 and have fairl low temps.
That is what I thought but I sent it back to cyberpower for overclocking and they found no fault (though they said the temps were a bit high). I therefore came to the conclusion it would be best to buy a new cooler as my current one is not working (for whatever reason). Any that you would recommend for my case and motherboad (CoolerMaster Centurion 590 and MSI X58 Platinum)? thanksJon

  11. I have installed the new RAM - thanks everyone for their advice. Now I need to upgrade to Windows 7 to allow my machine to take advantage of the extra RAM. I have it ready to go but first need to finish backing everything up - lots of FSX stuff to check I still have the licence codes for!I'm still looking for a cheap GTS 250 as well to complete my upgrades.I want to overclock my i7 920 CPU. However I think the cooling I have is pretty poor. The Noctua NH-U12P SE2 has been recommended to me but I'm not sure if it will fit in my case. I have a Coolermaster Centurion 590 - will the Noctua NH-U12P SE2 fit? If not what CPU cooler would you recommend? I currently have Asetek Liquid CPU Cooling System For Intel LGA1366 but my load temps quickly reach 78-80C without any overclocking.Advice appreciated.Jon

  12. Thanks again everyone.I have ordered the RAM you recommended Chris. My PSU is 750W (I believe) so should be sufficient.I had my computer overclocked by the company who bought it and they managed to get it from 2.67GHz to 3.16GHZ which I was quite pleased with. I'm reluctant to try anymore as it is stable and I worry I may damage something!I will see if I can pick up a cheap second hand 250 GTSthanks allJon

  13. I would recommend you upgrade your ram to a 6 GB triple channel kit. That is the biggest bottleneck of your system. I would recommend 6GB kit (3x2GB) of 1600MHz CAS6 Ram. The speed and latency is important. If you are going to upgrade your graphics, go to a GTX 260 minimum.
Thanks for the replies both. I will probably leave the graphics card for now then (unless an absolute bargin appears on ebay or elsewhere). For the RAM would http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....rodid=MY-153-OC be what I should go for? This one is cheaper but does not have the specs you recommended. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....amp;subcat=1390. Or would you recommend something else?thanks againJon

  14. Hi,I understand that FSX doesn't really rely on the graphics card and CPU speed is much more important. However to what extent can an old graphics card hold you back? Would you recommend replacing mine which I have had for a good few years now?My FSX performance is generally good but I have found (like most people I guess) it goes slowly in busy airports and areas. Improvement is not essential (I am more than able to enjoy FSX) but would be nice!My system infoWindows XP 32 (in the process of upgrading to Windows 7 64Bit)Intel I7 920 OC @ 3.16 GHz3GB RAM (should I upgrade to 6 GB once I have the 64bit system or would this make no difference?)Matrox Triple Head2Go (3 19in monitors)Geforce 9600GTWould an upgrade to a Geforce 250 (would be
