Hi all,
http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=b747-400_v2_00.zip
Ansgar has been kind enough to re-upload the file. This one was one of the few we couldn't get back following the 2009 hack.
-
Ok - now that its out of your systems lets put this to rest and let the thread continue.
-
Yeah, Ha Ha. Pointing out a spelling mistake in order to call into question my motives here is pretty lame. It is about as valid as if I were to try discrediting everything you've said simply because you've chosen Dexter as your avatar. Get real, and get serious. You have different expectations than I do, and you think I'm a jerk because I'm holding these aircraft to a higher standard than you are..I get that, and it's very easy to see from the sarcastic tone of some that they apparently see that as a personal insult upon their own standards and preferences. But alas, all I have been trying to do is weave my way through the hype and make some smart purchasing decisions.
Mmmm, and the 'o' key is nowhere near the 'a' key on my keyboard.
If you're making otherwise considered, rational points, why go to such a base level as to call a product by a somewhat childlike, derogatory term.
Anyway, I would say, the answer is; you hold off those products if you're unsure - that's the sensible thing to do from your perspective, and the rest of us will just enjoy them within our frame of expectations.
etc.....
Folks (everyone) - please play nice. Lets not ruin the thread.

The SD Yak-40 is freeware now?!
I just purchased it a couple of weeks ago from fspilot shop!
I've been meaning to get it for years now. I saw it disappear from simmarket and was afraid that with Igor Suprinov's passing it might disappear altogether from the FS scene. Wanted to get it before that happened as its a wonderful aircraft, exceptionally simulated - One of the FS9 gems.
Its good to know that it won't be forgotten and that someone's working to make it even better. I hope its all legal and hasn't been stolen, I couldn't find any conclusive information about that.
Looks like there's no manual or anything in the way of instructions included with the uploaded file over there, so I guess my purchase was worth it just for getting that and in all honesty I should have gotten this aircraft ages ago, its right up my alley - love the real Yak-40 and have very fond memories of it.
In the end I'm not sorry for having spent money on it, even if it may turn out that's its freeware now.
-
Its time to let the argument go.
OK Guys, I think that's enough arguing for now. Why don't we all just leave it and accept what the others had to contribute to the discussion?
Yes, please lets do that - We couldn't have said it better ourselves!
-
Thanks for the info meshman!

I have tried this-send to library-but have gmail only. when I try to send it will not go to them
.
Library account is outlook.
Thank You
Sorry, but I don't understand what you are saying?
You can send any queries to us at the library directly to: [email protected]
from whatever e-mail you are using.
-
Luckily someone from AVSIM staff has stumbled on your post - please send these directly to us at the library otherwise its likely we won't see it. Also please provide the full details of the file as its much easier for us to find it.
Is this the one you are having problems with?

FSAutoStart v1.1 (build 11)
Category: Flight Simulator 2004 - Utilities
Download ID: 57040Filename: fsasv1111.zipLicense: Freeware, limited distributionAdded: 25th November 2004, 05:35:46Downloads: 67902Author: Ken SalterSize: 246kb***************************************
I haven't used this myself, but I am not aware of any issues with this program. Its got 67902 downloads and has been around since 2004 - we haven't been sent any complaints about it at the library e-mail that I am aware of, certainly there's no complaints or anything about it sent to us for the last couple of years.
If there are issues with it keep in mind that the file and software is from 2004 and may have issues if you try to run it in Windows 8 or even Windows 7 (I imagine the software was originally meant for use in Windows XP and earlier). As the file is from a while ago (almost 9 years now) the author and his sites are no longer available. Also keep in mind that in the end this is all free and while it may not work for you, it may have use for others out there. Therefore we will not be complying with your request to remove it.
Generally, as all files are checked manually and scanned for malware and viruses prior to being made available, we only remove files from the library on request of their authors or for copyright infringements.
The program is for FS9 and with today's powerful computer systems I don't really think you need it to optimise system performance - and that does seem to be its main purpose:
--------------------------------
''FSAutoStart allows the user the ability to automatically shutdown services and programs to provide as much resources to running today's most demanding applications........''
--------------------------------
FS9 will run like a dream on modern PCs, so if 'FSAutoStart' doesn't work for you I think you can easy make do without it.
Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

Microsoft won the desktop market, and Apple moved on. Why keep fighting? Even if Apple did, their products are about controlling the overall experience and having everything work together as a whole, and not about trying to meet everyone's needs like Windows tries to. Not exactly something those looking for a Windows replacement are going to like (and then there's the price of the computers...). Linux would be the better choice in the long run depending on where Microsoft goes.
Windows 8 should have had a boot to desktop option from the beginning. I'm not as concerned about the Start button (which will just take you to the new Start Screen). My desktop is not connected to a touch screen and just about everything I do is with a desktop application, not a Metro one.
The classic shell and other 3rd party alternatives I mentioned earlier bring back the whole start menu to Win8 and are highly customizable to boot too. Bringing back just the start button is useless and entirely cosmetic.
Yes - Linux is a real alternative I am very happy to have!
Stupid. Start button but no menu? Then what's the fcking point? What a waste of resources this OS is.
Please do not try to get around our rude word filters like that.
-
I use Stardock Software Start8 and its perfect! Same as Windows 7 style.
Yeah I've heard of that one and it looks really good, thanks for bringing it up.
My own preference is with Classic Shell. It does the same basic thing and is completely free, where as Start8 isn't.
There's also something called Pokki too:
http://www.pokki.com/windows-8-start-menu
and there's more options out there for getting the start menu back in Win8, here's a list and review of some:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33642_7-57496506-292/how-to-get-the-start-menu-back-in-windows-8/
pick and choose!
EDIT:
There could be a reason for that.
Could be they're being silly maybe? The desktop market is out there and always will be (there's just a number of things that are really awkward to do on a touch screen type of interface), a bit questionable for a business involved with Operating Systems to just ignore it. They can easily do both a desktop and touch screen versions of their OS - why not target everybody instead of excluding potential clients.
At any rate - Not happy with Apple and Microsoft - give one of the many Linux distros a try, you may be surprised how good it is and if you get used to it you will wonder how you ever got along without it. At time of writing Linux Mint offers the best all-round desktop OS alternative.
-
For anyone wanting to fix their Win 8 desktop to something usable and bring back the start menu - There's this:
-
Does this happen anywhere in your sim, or just at a specific location?
If it happens only in a certain location - look if you have any add-on scenery close by. Sometimes some add-on scenery textures (that haven't been properly edited) can cause these types of blurries.

Glad I am not the only one as KEWR-LLBG in the PSS 777 has long been my favorite route I fully agree with your assesment. I also purchased a soundset a while ago, don't remember which.
I tend to fly the routes I fly the most in real life KEWR-EGLL, KEWR-EDDF, KEWR-LLBG and they are all 777 so for years I have been happily simulating them with the PSS bird. I can't wait to see what PMDG has in store for us!!!!
Right now I am doing a fictitious 12 hour hop from KEWR-OMDB direct in the 777 as my back and hip have me limited to the house!
The flight sounds great - enjoy!
Hope your back and hip recover soon.
Can someone point me to the tweaks and the must to complement PSS 777!
In addition to the original product and official updates - All I use are these, that I mentioned earlier:
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336201-pss-777-new-vc-textures/
and some tweaks to the taxi and landing lights I've done myself.
-
For FS9 there really are so many excellent aircraft to try, it would take a long time to list them all. Go out there and explore - see what you like best!
.........With 777, I had PSS on my mind. The Wilco 777 is really sub-par. The PSS has outdated graphics, no widescreen support, only medium system-depth - apart from that it mimics the flightdeck and the operations (flows) pretty well. It's been on sale occasionally for half its nominal price (25,50 Euros - this is the nominal one ;-) )
Actually the PSS 777 has really good system depth - nearly all systems are simulated and pretty accurately too. The external model is not perfect but I'm ok with it.
Many have done merges with the POSKY model, but I haven't felt the need to do that.
I still enjoy flying the PSS 777 with the new VC textures ( that is, when I can drag myself away from the PT Tu-154).
As this is the 2nd recommendation for the PSS and since momtchil posted the boxed offer here, I'd like to add a heads-up to the 2 servicepacks available for download from the support section of JF. Boxed version 1.0 is flyable but a number of fixes and tweaks followed it - including an enhancement for the TCAS resolution advisories.
I brought that boxed version years ago so I'm biased towards it !
Yup - updates for it available here: http://www.justflight.com/supportfaq/777-professional
Alternatively here's the download version (with all the updates included):

Hi Oliver,
Which 777 are you referring to? There is Wilco and PSS. I'm still undecided as to which one to get when I'm ready to buy a 777. Maybe both?
......
My advice is to get the PSS one:
http://www.justflight.com/product/777-professional-boxed
There's some updated textures and tweaks for its VC that make it really good. Full details in this thread:
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336201-pss-777-new-vc-textures/

And an administrator said my post was just fine with him.
............
You have also been warned over one of your posts in this thread, which has been removed. Please play nice, follow our ToS and all will be fine.

Just remember Scott - the dinosaurs were an incredibly successful species that flourished for far longer than us mammals have been around. If current science is correct, they didn't die out because they were inferior. They would still be dominating the earth if they hadn't been wiped out by an environmental catastrophe.
There's no insult in being a dinosaur, even if idiots who don't know what they are talking about use it as an insult. So let's all embrace our inner dinosaur and just keep on flying... And if you're a T-Rex and want to eat the occasional troll or moron who thinks dinosaurs are good targets for insults, go for it! I'll provide the pepper and salt if you need it...
Long live the FS9 dinosaurs!
Didn't we used to be the FS9 rhinos before? -
I guess we've evolved! or is that devolved..... whatever the case we're still here, flying and happy.
******************************
on a separate note:
Folks lets stop the FSX v FS9 stuff and the other conflicts in this thread too please (we've already had to remove some posts). C'mon, we all know that leads nowhere. It would be a shame to have to lock the thread because of that same old reason. So lets all get along.
We all know both sims have their benefits (so does X-plane, DCS and etc...) and its a lot down to personal preference in the end. Best to try them all and pick what you like, kind of like a salad bar!

Uppss I really didn't know it.. but if is free.. what is the problem? . its a surprise for me..
menduco
The problem is they are stealing and presenting the work of others as their own. These kind of actions are aiding to destroy the creation of FS freeware.
Like I said before, post those links again anywhere on here and you'll find yourself suspended from this site.
-
GAIT and ### AI are known pirates, repackaging the hard work of the freeware creators as their own. May as well be posting Torrent links for payware addons while you're at it.
Yes that's exactly what they've done on numerous occasions; and those kind of actions are not welcome here at all!
All links posted by 'menduco' removed.

Mote: pls guys do not try to be more Papist than the Pope..... ;-)
More Papist than the Pope eh.....
The people/person behind those sites have basically stolen a lot of freeware and then attempted to present it as their own work -that is completely unacceptable to us.
So in conclusion - if you post those links anywhere on these forums again, you will find yourself suspended long-term.
-
Thanks for the help so far.
Not too sure if the following is the information you need?
Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz 539MHz
Memory (RAM): 2.00 GB
System Type: 31-bit Operating System
As for what I want from FS9, well I want allot of realistic traffic with allot of realistic scenery. Looking for much more than the basics shall we say.
If you have a decent graphics card along with the above - FS9 will run ok.
You may experience some slow downs if you use a lot of add-on AI and extremely complex add-on scenery, however as long as you don't go overboard with the AI I think it will be perfectly fine.
In the end though it does largely depend on what graphics card you have. On-board graphics (i.e. integrated graphics - Intel or anything else) will not give you good results, a dedicated decent NVIDIA or AMD card will be fine.

Hi Stephen,
Got the "Sorry, we couldn't find that!" page when clicking the above link...
Thanks...
OK - Link updated.

It has a lot to do with PMDG, specially for the 737 and upcoming 777 which sooner or later someone would like to paint it if they do change the livery.
Not really, it doesn't. Nothing in the topic start post relevant to PMDG:
I was looking at CSPAN this morning, where there is a hearing going on in Washington discussing the merger between American and US Airways. I wonder if the livery colors will stay the same for American, or will there be any hope of changing their rediculous paint scheme.
Moved to hanger chat.OP Please read:
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/379188-off-topic-posts/
We would ask all to please post only PMDG relevant things in the PMDG forums. We've had to move a ton of stuff from there continuously.
