  1. Any thoughts on how to fix this?  Tweak the CG or weight in the aircraft CFG file?  It is interesting it contacts the ground properly when using the AIG injector so I doubt they will be looking to fix anything.  PSXT is still so much better even with this slight imperfection in the aircraft model.

Really didn’t notice this too much until I took a look around KLGA.  It is full of Delta and American CRJ-900s.

  2. I have this scenery and think it is very well done.  The addition of NASKW and the USCG cutters are new in this version and a welcome update.  This scenery depicts the airfield from a somewhat earlier period, as it has the new tower and does not have the shelter structures on the flight line, but this does not bother me as the old tower is an iconic building for the base.

It is nice to be able to fly an F-35 out of here then rendezvous with a moving carrier a few miles north of Key West with super carrier pro.

  3. I am noticing my CRJ-900 models to be floating slightly above the ground when depicted as live in PSXT, and the nose gear in particular is 2-3 meters in the air.  They appear normal with wheels on the ground when parked.  I am using the AIG models and they have all been updated in the AIG Manager.

This appears to happen at any airport regardless of terrain/elevation or QNH.  They also appear correctly with wheels on the ground when injecting with the AIG injector.  I checked the log and am not seeing any CG or elevation errors.  The other aircraft types seem to be normal from what I am seeing.

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this or had any suggestions?  Thanks.

  4. This is my first MK Studios product and my first impression is very good.  Although I only got to take a look at it for a few minutes, it seems very well done with excellent detail and texturing.  As already mentioned, there is good PSXT data and the immersion of real word sequencing on crosswind runways really adds to the experience.  The performance seems very good especially for a dense area.  The only thing I noticed thus far was a few taxi signs misplaced on the taxiways, but this could be a conflict with my Real Taxiways USA product (which also is a great product but sometimes requires deactivation of a specific airport for add on products).  I will check this and report back.

  5. Yes I use both ADE and the SDK tools depending on what I am trying to do.  With some payware airports, ADE does not compile correctly and the program is unfortunately no longer being supported.

In terms of using the SDK, fixing the incorrect runway lighting and approach lights for me consisted of adding transparent runways at a higher scenery priority and then selecting the proper lighting based upon my real experience at the airport and FAA/Airnav data.   The correct lighting will then be shown while at the same time retaining the original ground poly.

It can be a bit tedious to make everything work correct, but I have had success in getting it right with no negative performance issues or other problems.  I’d rather be using the simulator to fly, but this can also be interesting in some ways. I will try and post some pictures at some point.

Be patient, it’s a rather important airport and will eventually have a good or at least acceptable rendition by either VerticalSim or BMWAmsim or Fly2high or DominicDesign. No reason to buy a bad version.

I do hope someone else will take the time to do a better version of CVG.  It has some complexities to do well with the mesh but I would be very excited just to have an accurate airfield layout with high quality terminals and cargo facilities.

I did forget to mention from my earlier review that the Feelthere version at least had accurate runway lighting (approach lights, PAPIs, touchdown zone lighting where appropriate while Skyline does not have these elements properly depicted).

  7. Thanks for the reply and suggestion.  I am still having the error on my system, despite uninstalling/reinstalling, and also unselecting auto start and only starting once everything is running.  I also did a restart of the computer.

Both were working together with previous versions of the software (PSXT has been updated several times during this time as well).

  8. I have both the Feelthere and Skyline Simulations versions of CVG.  Both are unfortunately very flawed in my opinion.

After some work, I have become generally satisfied with the Skyline Simulations version after spending a significant amount of time “fixing” it myself, including adding parking for the Amazon cargo ramps, replacing incorrect runway ground textures, and such.  I still find both Concourse A and Concourse B windows to look unrealistic as they are completely transparent without any of the blue/green shading as in real life.  Some of their smaller ground markings also flicker badly, regardless of any simulator settings.  The runway issue upon release was fixed prior to me getting the scenery, and now works fine.

Skyline Simulations still seems to have lackluster customer service.  I have emailed them a few times including to request a password reset and with some questions about the scenery with no response at all.  Some people report they do monitor their Facebook page but publishing a customer service email address on a website then not responding at all is poor business.

In terms of the Feelthere scenery, it is certainly an improvement upon the default, but I found the ground texturing to be not as detailed compared to the Slyline version.  Also there is some serious issues with the scaling of the buildings.  Concourse A for example is about twice the height of Concourse B and looks ridiculously tall. (Same issue for the main DHL building also) The concourses also have some goofy angled windows that are not realistic.

In conclusion, I personally think Skyline is more accurate than the Feelthere version at this point, despite the flaws and a lack of responsiveness from the company.  Hopefully Feelthere will be more open to updates and addressing customer feedback.

  9. I have downloaded and installed the update.  AIG traffic patterns seem to be fixed and the 3D runway lights have been removed at the end of the displaced thresholds for both ends of the runway.  Also, there is no longer a comparability issue with the aircraft carriers as there is a selection to disable them in case you have the San Diego Navy scenery or the Carrier Pro package installed.

Very nice to see a developer so responsive and willing to update their work.  Hopefully some more minor changes and updates will be coming in the future regarding some of the other minor issues that have been pointed out.

Overall my impression of this scenery is very good at this point.  Compared to the LVFR the modeling, ground textures, overall detail, and certainly the night lighting are vastly superior.  LVFR is better in the way that it modeled the downtown and surrounding buildings, which really added to the immersion on approach to RWY27.  If we are able to get SamScene or someone else to just do the downtown this would be nearly perfect.

  10. Alexey responded to my email within just a few hours and informed me they have an update already on the way to the distributors that will address many of these issues.  Very impressed with his response and good to hear they are working to support their products.  Looking forward to having the updated version installed.  He also indicated there are no plans to do the downtown, so hopefully SamScene or someone else will do it soon.

  11. I sent an email to Alexey and hopefully some of the issues can be fixed with an update.  I would love if Alexey adds downtown to a future update but also would be happy to buy the downtown and surrounding even if it were done by Sam Scene as part of USA Cities Volume 2.  There is a lot to model in the San Diego downtown / harbor area and I believe it would be a very popular product.

I have added the USA Cities Volume 1 and both Boston and Los Angeles look spectacular.

  12. I agree with much of what has been discussed in this thread so far.  Overall this is a much improved and updated rendition of San Diego than the LVFR, although there are a few serious flaws that need to be corrected and it is unfortunately missing the modeled downtown.

Critical issues that I hope are addressed quickly:

1 - The starting point for runway 27 is off.  The AFCAD needs reworked so aircraft taking off will use the displaced threshold.  Also, the entry to runway 27 at the end of the displaced threshold is blocked with three dimensional runway /reil lights preventing a clean taxi.

2 - Although I use PSXT, I did test with FSLTL, and it is a disaster.  Aircraft are taxiing on the runway and only using runway 9.

3- I am seeing a triangular ground tile that is a slightly different elevation near the end of runway 27 as well.  Otherwise the airport grounds appear to be smooth.

Less critical things that I would like to see fixed in the future:

1- Would be great to see downtown and some of the approach buildings modeled such as the Laurel parking garage.  Even the east basin of the harbor looks bare without all the docked boats on approach.

2 - There is a piece of GSE (bag cart or something) improperly placed blocking the taxi into one of the United gates (maybe 45 if I recall)

3 - The atrium glass on Terminal 2 West like people mentioned is not the green reflective color as appears in real life.  Also, would be nice to see a bunch of GSE placed underneath..

I really like most of this airport, but it needs just a little bit of work to make it great.  Hopefully they will be updating this to address some of these issues.

One issue I'm noticing is that the GPU utilization seems much higher than anything I've seen lately.  I have a 1080ti.  The GPU memory is only using around 4of11gb.  But the actual utilization is 93-100%.  My frame rates are still good, but I'm wondering if something is messed up in the code.  This happens day or night.

I don’t see the higher GPU utilization as being a problem but rather a benefit to overall performance. The fact that your graphics card is being utilized to render the scenery more is a good thing as it allows the CPU to handle other tasks in the sim. And there is also a difference between GPU core load and GPU memory load.  Many of the best optimized P3D 4.5 sceneries and aircraft do a much better job of utilizing GPU power to reduce the CPU bottleneck that has always limited the FSX/P3D sim platform.

  14. All in all this is a good update. I am still using my own AFCAD where I have edited parking sizes to better reflect aircraft type parking. I also am using my own placed GSE and also trees that I added from the older version using instant scenery.

Having no problems with SODE or the PBR textures.

I am impressed with the performance given the size of the airport and the number of aircraft. It runs silky smooth for me running a complex airliner and even with 150+ aircraft on the ground.

This is still a little lower quality than flightbeam or flytampa but overall it is very well done.

Also very nice to have an update of this extent for free, especially three years after its release.

  15. Unfortunately I don’t think anything has been addressed yet to fix this scenery.

As it stands now this scenery is unusable as far as I am concerned. Horrible flickering, stutters galore, and lower FPS than any other payware airport I own. And frankly like I previously posted the quality of the models and texturing is mediocre at best. There are a number of other problems too such as with the AFCAD and night lighting. You’ve got to wonder if anyone even tested this before putting it on the market.

I hope a number of these problems get fixed at some point, but for now I have just removed it from my system.

Overall this has been a very disappointing purchase.

  16. I had been waiting for this scenery for quite a while and was concerned that the project had been scrapped after not seeing a CVG update on the Skyline Simulations Facebook page for the better part of a year.

First thing is that they seem to have their website and server issues fixed.  I was able to buy the product and download it with no issues and at a high speed.

However once installed it has unfortunately been mostly disappointing.  Like many people have already stated the AFCAD is a total mess.  Most spots at the terminal are not properly coded and are badly misaligned.  And the DHL facility was omitted completely.

The terminal layout is also outdated as people have previously mentioned, with terminal two and concourse c still present.  I was hoping to have the option to simply remove these objects from the scenery folder, however it appears that the terminal complex has been consolidated into one large scenery file.  Also missing is the significant DHL ramp addition north of taxiway n, which was constructed in 2016.

The terminal details and texturing also frankly do not look as crisp as I expected from the Facebook photos.  I don't know if those were supposed to be for this version or if those were for a newer version still not released.  I also have some annoying texture flickering for example the Delta logo on the hanger which really takes away from the immersion.  And despite running P3D 4.5 and having all those PBR textures in the folder, I am getting mostly just a bunch of flickering and not the reflections and metallic look that I get at LatinVFR Miami for example.  And finally, I am having some performance issues with lower than expected FPS and micro stutters.  Perhaps this has something to do with the very large number of texture sheets (normal maps, lit maps, ect.) that have been converted from Xplane?

I really hope that some of these issues will be addressed.  It is obvious the developers at Skyline Simulations have a very high level of talent based upon some of their other products and what has been showcased on their Facebook page.  However this scenery in its current form is in need of some significant work.

  17. I'd like to do Port Columbus. I already have the terminal and tower of Columbus roughly done on my computer so I could probably do it in a few weeks. I am however tempted to really learn gmax or re create the buildings using sketch up in order to improve the quality and performance.

I might do a quick version of CMH like DAY and then go back and upgrade it later.

  18. I have completed and am in the final stages of testing a freeware scenery package for the Dayton International Airport in Vandalia, Ohio. Like with many small to medium sized airports, the FSX rendition looks nothing like the real world version.

This scenery includes a custom terminal building, moving jetways, and an AFX file with accurate parking assignments. Also modeled is the new 255 foot air traffic control tower, terminal parking garage, the Fed Ex building, the PSA Airlines headquarters and maintenance hanger, the former Emery Worldwide cargo sort facility, the airport hotel, and hangers for fixed base operators Stevens Aviation and Wright Brothers Aero.

More than a thousand objects have been added to enhance detail around the airport using Flight 1’s excellent instant scenery program. AI Traffic has been tested to ensure efficient flow. The landclass file has also been adjusted to better reflect the real airport.

Much of this scenery was actually developed some time ago using older modeling software. Although it has been updated, it is obviously not as detailed or complicated as some of the better commercial products on the market today. However, it has been tested with both an Intel I7 machine and an older Intel Core 2 Duo system to ensure satisfactory performance.

I anticipate releasing the package on Avsim on Saturday December 1st. I look forward to sharing this package and to any input that anyone may have.

Please find below five screenshots (resized and compressed per forum rules) as a preview of the package!
