  1. This report is published here https://edpierson.com/ by a retired senior manager at Boeing's 737 Factory in Renton. ``The paper underscores the likely role a chaotic and dangerously unstable production environment played in the accidents. Mr. Pierson also puts forth three other plausible accident scenarios not addressed in the accident investigations. The 14-page report includes a timeline and an analysis that ties the two 737 MAX airplane crashes together in ways not previously reported. Most importantly, Mr. Pierson’s analysis raises serious doubts as to the safety of the 737 MAX. Alarmingly, the FAA’s recertification fixes do not address the problems identified in the report.`` Captain Edward F. Pierson's impressive résumé and the evidence he submitted to Congress in 2019 can be found here: https://docs.house.gov/meetings/PW/PW00/20191211/110296/HHRG-116-PW00-Wstate-PiersonE-20191211.pdf

  3. It happenned with TAROM Flight 371. Nose-down dive after takeoff. But that was an A310.
  4. the shutdown "was triggered by test parameters that were intentionally conservative to ensure the safety of the core stage during the test." https://www.space.com/nasa-sls-megarocket-engine-test-shutdown-cause ***
  5. Delta Air Lines 1080. In fairness, Delta Air Lines Flight 1080 did not crash. It landed. The issue was adressed and it`s captain, Jack McMahan, was awarded the FAA's Distinguished Service Award.
  6. FDR data confirmed that both of the plane’s engines had been operating when the plane hit the water. https://www.reuters.com/article/indonesia-crash/update-1-indonesia-downloads-data-from-flight-recorder-of-downed-sriwijaya-air-jet-idUSL1N2JQ0BN
  7. It`s shuttle era RS-25 engines have been tweaked for xtra performance. Some concerns had been voiced about using those engines.

  9. It is by design; a very expensive joy ride. Sub-orbital space tourism. We`re in the Age of the Jetsons. Well, some of us are... anyway...
  10. Crew failed to acknowledge or respond to two radio transmissions from controllers questioning why the aircraft had shifted from its designated route during its climb away from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport; reports WSJ : https://www.wsj.com/articles/indonesia-plane-crash-probes-focus-is-on-lack-of-pilot-response-to-controllers-11610612161
  11. Anthropocentrically, perhaps. But I don`t think we`re the only terrestrially intelligent animals. I`ve personnally met several animals on our good Earth who were intelligent (and loving).
  12. I became sort of an environmentalist on Christmas Eve 1968. I remember it vividly: I was watching the TV broadcast of Apollo 8 orbiting the Moon. 1968 had been such a terribly depressing year and listening to Anders read verses 1–4, Lovell read verses 5–8, and Borman read verses 9 and 10 of the creation narrative of the book of Genesis had a profound impact on me. I don`t know after the events of this past year if there will be any money left for the scheduled returns to the Moon in 2024. But younger persons should witness what I witnessed 50 years ago. It`s going to have to happen to them on their watch. Space exploration just can`t be described by conventional means. It`s not only rocket science. Sure, Mercury and Apollo were about missile payloads. But along the way, for all the wrong reasons, we discovered something about our good Earth; and ourselves; that we hadn't expected. It's something like having to leave and/or loose a girl; to know how to better love her. I like to think that going back to the Moon and beyond; taking that long and difficult way; is the best way back to our home. Because it's where all that there is to love; lives.
  13. Apparently the have the four corners of the aircraft; the sea of Java is shallow. They should find the recorders. Let`s hope their data can be analysed to help understand and prevent what happenned.
  14. We`re our own planet killing asteroids it often seems to me. By the time we do make it to Mars we will probably need the survival technology and know-how we will have developed to survive the martian environment; to also survive on Earth.
  15. https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/indonesia-jet-carrying-62-goes-missing-on-domestic-flight-1.5260216 Not good. Flightradar24.com said the aircraft had lost more than 3,000m (10,000ft) in altitude in less than a minute. Route: Jakarta to Pontianak Callsign: SJY182 Aircraft: Boeing 737-500, PK-CLC Take off: 07:36 UTC Highest altitude: 10,900 feet Last altitude: 250 feet Signal lost: 07:40 UTC

  18. Well, it does include a $243.6 million criminal penalty to the US DOJ. The US has extradition treaties with Indonesia and Ethiopia. I'm not sure if they are dual criminality treaties. And there is a $500 million civil settlement fund. Victim survivors lawyers will get paid their fees and costs, of course. One of the oldest american laws (and probably the best in it's category worldwide); the Alien Tort Statute (28 U.S.C. § 1350; ATS); allows for more litigation from Ethiopia and Indonesia wich will likely be settled with non-disclosure agreements.
  19. Boeing will pay more than $2.5 billion to settle criminal charges that it repeatedly concealed and lied about the 737 Max's engineering problems that led to two catastrophic crashes claiming hundreds of lives. https://www.npr.org/2021/01/07/954674614/boeing-to-pay-2-5-billion-over-737-max-fraud-faces-no-other-charges

  21. Yet not all was bad about 2020. I`ll remember that many payware devs. donated great addons last March and April. I grabbed all of Iris Simulation's addon offerings and so many on Simmarket. There were some fantastic freeware addons too in 2020. The new sim looks great. Best wishes to all for 2021!
  22. That`s a good point regarding being grounded for so long. They are indeed designed to operate. When you think about it; so many variant aircraft have just been parked for the past 8-9+ months. I`m not sure what will be the impact.
  23. That was a 737 Max. No problems. Some good news for Boeing at the end of a tough year. https://www.wsj.com/articles/american-airlines-resumes-737-max-passenger-flights-11609253579
